Musical Analysis Of Chicago The Musical
Analysis of CHICAGO THE MUSCIAL CHICAGO THE MUSCIAL is an American Musical
production directed by Bob Fosse, Walter Bobbie, contributed to by John Kander, & Fred Ebb. The
original play Chicago (1926) by reporter and playwright Maurine Dallas Watkins. She who was
assigned to cover the 1924 trials of accused murderers Beulah Annan and Belva Gaertner for the
Chicago Tribune. The original musical productions played from 1975–1979 in New York. Then was
revived in 1996 and has traveled worldwide and been in production since. In 2003 the Professional
show moved in to the Amador Theatre on W 49th St in Manhattan. Chicago is a dynamic, and
sensual production based on the 1920s in America as to how show business and the media make
celebrities out of criminals.
Through its dynamic directing and acting the show captured the audience and took us to the 1920s
City of Chicago. All performs in the production were wearing costumes of black color and the style
in the 1920s, along with a simple orchestra in the background, this made clear the setting in which
the story takes place. The production is unlike others in that the whole production is made of many
smaller simpler acts based of the theater genre called "vaudeville acts".
What was the original director's vision and intent of the audience viewing it? Fosse wrote this
production to be entertaining and yet at the same time shocking, sexual and daring. When the
production opened there had been few who dared to run such a sexually

Billy would go case by case. When Amos Hart came to Billy about his wife, they had talked on
the phone with each other. Amos told Billy he would have the money for him. However, when
Amos came to Billy office he was short and Billy told him he could not take his wife's case, but
just as Amos was walking out of his office, Billy had a change of heart and took Roxie's case.
Billy loved to get the case that would make big news. Billy also loved any opportunity to get his
face in front of the media, more than he loved assisting his client. Billy was smart to know if he
wins his case, the media attention will make him more famous.
Lucy Liu played Kitty Baxter. Kitty Baxter was the women who would kick Roxie's murder case
out of the spotlight. Roxie had been the big thing and until Kitty came in. Roxie then became old
news. No one even cared about who Roxie was even though she was found not guilty.
This movie shows a lot of love, sexual content and betrayal. Velma and Roxie were at odds with each
other through–out the film. But, when two ladies put there differences aside they became the
biggest name is show business. First, the ladies had to work through the hated for each other to find
out truthfully what each other can do. Once the ladies learned each others good points, weaknesses
and strengths they were able to perform together. The plot is logical and believable. The movie

New Orleans Vs Chicago Style Analysis
Three prominent difference between New Orleans and Chicago style Dixieland is the instruments
that are being used, rhythm changes from "flat four" to a "two" feel, and individual solos are more
important. New Orleans is considered the traditional Dixieland which is where most of Chicago
style comes from turning the significance as Bruce Chidester's "What is the Difference Between
New Orleans and Chicago Dixieland Jazz?", blog explains how Chicago's Dixieland is considered by
"The term 'new' or 'modern Dixieland' [referring] to a Chicago style" leading to such differences.
The New Orleans style was considered "marching", as Maurice Gerow, David Megill, and Paul
Tanner in "Early New Orleans and Chicago Style Jazz." Explain how this type of style

Crime In Chicago Essay
Chicago has been gaining a reputation as of late for being a very dangerous place to live. "Chicago
police records recorded 506 murders in 2012, with an estimated 80 percent being gang related"
(NBA). "In 2012, the city of Chicago alone recorded over 506 dead which was twice as many as
New York, and 200 more than Los Angeles" (Tu). Englewood, which has the highest homicide rates
in the city show poverty may be the underlining factor. The neighborhood of Englewood has a
population of 30,654, and 42.2 percent of them are below poverty level (Tu). It goes to show the
correlation between poverty and crime; crime is indeed a distinct reflection of crime. Chicago's
population is divided between 29 % Hispanics, 33% blacks, and 32% whites (Craig)....show more

The differences above, averaging about 13 to one, are staggering. This is what apartheid looks like.
(Bogira)
There were many attacks on the homes of African–American who tried to move into white
neighborhoods, which caused this racial segregation. The difference between the two types of
neighborhoods are apparent how poverty affects the area. Chicago's crime stricken neighborhoods
have a lot to do with the poverty in the area:
A National Institute of Health study that focused on the effects of mass incarceration on Chicago's
neighborhoods found that communities marked by poverty and racial segregation experience
incarceration rates that are more than three times higher communities with similar crime rates. (Bedi)
This shows the more poverty in certain area the more incline for there to be higher crime rates."
Chicago's west and south sides have incarceration rates that are double–and sometimes triple–the
national average" (Bedi). Derrick Rose Chicago Bulls star point guard who grew up in Southside
Chicago attributes the violence in the city of Chicago to poverty." People are just surviving, they're
really just trying to get out" (NBA). Everybody wants to live the lifestyle and they want to do it

Short Essay On Chicago
Although Chicago is a wonderful town with soaring skylines, diverse restaurants, and amazing
culture, much of America tends to overlook the Midwestern metropolis. So, the city talks itself up
and creates folklore through its history and numerous nicknames, like the second city or the city of
big shoulders. But, those legends can cloak its past and self–awareness in a fog of immense pride.
The city of Chicago wants the world to see their history as a founding by great men, who overcame
adversity through inspired ideas. However, this boosted narrative hides the innate conflict of the
town's beginning and glosses over the laborers' maltreatment through the myth of the hustling
working man. When remembering the founding, the Chicago government and historical...show more

For example, on historical sculptures bordering the Chicago River, the city carved many explorers'
and traders' names into eternal bronze, even dedicating one of the four biographical monuments to
solely Marquette and Joliet, the French Fur Traders who stumbled upon the future site of the city. In
an attempt to rival sophisticated New York, Chicago boosts its originators to the status of the eastern
founding fathers. Still, many historians seem to diminish the life of Baptiste Pointe De Sable, the
first permanent resident and a man of Haitian decent, because they do not want a black founder
tainting their new set of colonial elite. The city just recently built a De Sable plaque and bust near
the bridge, but Joliet and Marquette's dedication dwarfs his. Similarly, the Chicago History Museum
also emphasizes great men with a painting of Marquette and Joliet as the largest artifact, also almost
completely ignoring De Sable and the workers. Although these individuals did have a large impact
on Chicago's fast growth, this great man history ignores the real workers who physically built the
town. Another monument on Michigan Ave. depicts Columbia looking to the sun

Either you are a student or a working professional, it is inevitable that you have to submit an
assignment or write an industry report. And it imperative and crucial for you to get it right. So let's
just face it and try to help ourselves get it right. And to do so a lot of what you write, its credibility
and the fact whether it's intended reader or audience is convinced by your findings or not depends to
large extent on how you write it , not what it says. That may sound disappointing to many people
because to them the content is important but to the readers it's presentation reflects its authenticity.
Your paper has to be flawless with no mistakes of spellings or punctuation even, because logically a
person who doesn't even know correct writing skills, there is no guarantee for the reader about the
creditability of the content. In any case, if you want to write the perfect research paper there is a
very good book I'd like to recommend to you;

according to your plan . The author also makes a very good point that it's best to write. The author
has also made a very good point by suggesting that you write the title of your paper last, because by
the time you end it, you might have slightly modified what the paper is about, and the title will make

The Chicago School Of Architecture
The Chicago School of Architecture was developed by William Le Baron Jenney between the years
of 1879–1910. It is usually known as the term "Chicago School" for its skyscraper architecture
(Chicago School of Architecture 2). Not only did Jenney help develop the school, but other
American architects as well like William Holabird, Louis Sullivan, Martin Roche, and others as
well. There were two schools made during this period The First Chicago School of Architecture and
The Second Chicago School of Architecture. The second school centered around the European
Modernism. Three factors that contributed to the Chicago School of Architecture where the rapid
need to build buildings to serve the industrial society, the development of construction using steel,
and the strong desire to create a modern style. To begin with, after the fire of 1871, Chicago
became a dense population, area and the value of the state lived up. By 1890, Chicago had more
than one million people and had surpassed Philadelphia population and became second–biggest city
in the United States (Lowe 1). People started to travel over to Chicago and started to settle there.
The more people traveling to Chicago meant that they would have to build more buildings both
commercial and property. The problem was that Chicago stood in a deluge, and then it was hard to
build homes using the techniques they knew. They knew how to build structures using the
traditional walls of brick and stone, but was not capable to stay up

The Chicago Blues, A Style Of Blues
Chicago Blues
The Chicago blues was a style of blues that developed, as the name suggests, in Chicago. It was a
more modern type of blues and came about after the Great Migration of the 1900s. More than half a
million African Americans migrated from the Mississippi Delta and headed north, towards cities like
Chicago and Detroit (Public Broadcasting Service, 2015).
The Great Migration was a mass migration of African Americans from the south to northern states, as
stated earlier. They moved in search of jobs in the more industrial sector of the United States and
took the culture of blues music in the Mississippi Delta with them (About.com, 2015). The migrants

Breathe in. Breathe out. Take in the air, the bite of the wind, rush of cars and gaze up at the
skyscrapers above. For some, Chicago is just another location, a point on the map, but for me it
has a special place in my heart, due to the weather, its stunning beauty and the way it gives me a
sense of belonging. Beginning, my memories of Chicago are tied to one specific yet beautiful
time I went to Grant's Park in the spring. The first element that made this trip truly amazing was
the weather. Of course, it is a simple thing, but such a simple thing as the type of day it was really
had an impact on me. The day started cold, the brisk wind biting my lips, making me sink deeper

rush of the cars by me, the calls of birds flying overhead and I witnessed so many people doing so

Chicago City Descriptive
A city famed for its tourism and love by many, where the skyscrapers stand tall for its bold
architecture and the best pizza in the world. That is where it's at. There is no place like home, the
city of Chicago, IL. It's also known as the windy city. This is where I was born on November 6,
1997. Chicago is a vast city full different things to do. For example, visiting many of the best
restaurants in the whole or possibly the whole world. Smelling the pizza straight from the oven will
make your mouth water like a water fountain, and seeing the different flavors of pizza that make
you wonder "Who was the crazy person that made this." From Pineapples to exotic pizzas like
Macaroni and Cheese Pizza, Buffalo Chicken Pizza Sticks. And; much more types of flavors,
however, Chicago is not all about food, it also has its different cultures. Culture is very important
when it comes to cities; you will see many different types of Hispanics, African, Italians, Jewish,
Chinese, Etc. Cultures have their own ways of tradition and it is very interesting on how they do it.

The Art Institute of Chicago Essay
The building at 111 South Michigan Avenue, home of the Art Institute of Chicago, was opened in
1893 as the World's Congress Auxiliary Building for the World's Columbian Exposition. The
building was passed on to the Art Institute after the end of the exposition. Designed in the Beax–Arts
style by Boston firm Shepley, Rutan, and Coolidge, building has become an icon for chicagoans an
tourists alike. The Modern Wing, the Art Institute's latest and largest addition to date, opened on
May 16, 2009, and was designed by Pritzker Prize–winning architect Renzo Piano. The 264,000

The main building of the Art Institute is constructed mostly of masonry, with few windows, and
feels very heavy and overpowering. Grand staircases and large columns dwarf visitors as they
move through the galleries. This is similar to the way the art in the space makes you feel: small,
unimportant, and sometimes even afraid. The Modern wing in constructed of steel and glass, and
is very open and bright (except when intended not to be). The large north wall facing Millenium
Park is one large expanse of windows, letting in plenty of indirect sunlight, and opening the
gallery to the park. The space feels very light, in both senses of the word. As with the old building,
the art feels similar to the space in that it is more open and less opressive. The two buildings also
differ in the way they interact with the city, since they have vastly differing neighbors. The main
building is centered on Adams street and faces the Loop, the busiest area of the city. Flanking the
main entrance are two large, bronze, lions that seem to protect the building from the city, while still
allowing visitors to enter and exit the museum. The new Modern Wing, however, facesChicago's
Millenium Park. The face of the building along the park side is a large face of windows. So, while
the old building is trying to shut out the city to create a space for itself, the Modern Wing is
opening itself up to let the park

Descriptive Essay About Chicago
About Chicago
Chicago is 237 square miles of land. It is a home to an estimated 2,695,598 residents. Have dozens of
cultural institutions, historic sites and museums. Some interesting facts include: nearly 40 million
people visit Chicago annually. In 1900, Chicago successfully completed a massive and highly
innovative engineering project reversing the flow of the Chicago River so that it emptied into the
Mississippi River instead of Lake Michigan. Each year, the Chicago River is dyed green to celebrate
St. Patrick's Day. Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago, Illinois is one of the few free zoos in the United
States. The Zoo is one of the oldest zoos in North America with 1,100 animals from about 200
different species. I chose to write about Chicago because one day I hope to live in that city with its
great attractions.
History of Chicago
"It is hopeless for the occasional visitor to try to keep up with Chicago. She outgrows his prophecies
faster than he can make them." – Mark Twain, 1883. Mark Twain wrote this when Chicago was only
few years over 40 years old, however, it had officially developed more than 100–crease, from a little
exchanging post into one of the country's largest urban communities, and it wasn`t going to stop.
Despite everything it hasn't ceased. Today, Chicago has turned into a worldwide city, a flourishing
focal point of universal exchange and trade, and a place where individuals of each nationality come
to seek after the American dream. As Chicago grew, its

Walking up to the door, we took in the scenery of a family of four sitting at a dark, brown circular
table, hanging out as if this was the place to be. As soon as we walked in the door, the mouth

saw just how many people it attracted. It attracted people of many backgrounds and of many ages.

Every table appeared free of crumbs and sauce stains as they sat shining under the fluorescent lights.
Opening the box of pizza we saw that it was unbelievably thin. When I picked up my slice, the
cheese was gooey and hot. I like that the food was fire cooked right in front of our faces so we didn't
have to worry about where our food has been when we finally got it. The toppings started to spill off
as I took my first bite. The pizza was mind–blowing. I had never tasted anything so savory. When we
were full we still didn't want to stop eating (it was that good). One box just wasn't enough, we
needed more. When we got down to our last slices of pizza we realized that we were, in fact, full.
As we sat in the booth, more people walked into the doors looking as if they've been there a
thousand times before, so eager; knowing exactly what they would be ordering. Then there was
the people like Darell and I, who supposedly looked like lost puppies; unaware of what they were
going to get off of the menu; unaware of the delicious pizza they were about to receive. Seeing all of
the people from different walks of life, so excited to eat this pizza was great.
Although the slices were only big enough to feed a five year old, it was oddly satisfying and just
enough to fill us up. The pizza looked exactly as it did on the menu. The employees' customer
service was way over the top. They made sure that we were contented with our choice and always

watch an amazing orchestral performance. The Chicago Symphony Center was built in 1904 and
they celebrate their 125th season this year.

Examples Of Health Disparities In Chicago
Chicago is portrayed as a diverse city, especially in downtown Chicago. However, Chicago is, in
fact, a segregated city. On the Northside of Chicago, the population is predominantly white, while
on the South and West Side the population is made up of Hispanics and African Americans. To
begin, living on the South and West Sides, someone is more likely to eat unhealthily. For example,
on the Northside someone will be able to find grocery stores that have organic food, unlike on the
South Side, where stores that sell organic food are limited; this difference represents health
disparities. Health disparities can be defined as different people in certain neighborhoods do not
get the same health benefits as other neighborhoods. The biggest threat to social justice in
Chicago are health disparities, especially in the South and West Sides of town because people
who are living there are more prone to diseases, people are prevented from eating healthily, and
they are prevented from getting simple exercise. Health disparities are not based on income but
on location. In Chicago, health disparities are a major problem because of segregation. While, on
the Northside, someone is less likely to experience health disparities, it's different on the South and
West Sides. When someone looks at a map, they do not see how segregated a city is, but when
someone is analyzing a certain neighborhood in Chicago, they will be able to see how segregated
the city is. A study shows how neighborhoods in

Chicago Neighborhood Analysis
Chicago neighborhoods are different but closely similar to style and layout. It's a diverse city with
areas that have different atmospheres with parks, restaurants, etc. I want to focus more on 'rich' and
'poor' and 'middle' as a whole. The people would be the main source with the part of living standards
about the neighborhood I'm from. This would give a better understanding of how exactly the area is.
Rich is vague term because no one can be rich easily become one than the other. People are usually
the same in terms of where they're currently living. Lincoln Park is northeast of downtown Chicago,
very active much like the rest of downtown. The neighborhood is a pack of expensive restaurants,

The area is an array of houses at every corner. People get up to work very early morning and it's a
hassle. It is not a popular area in Chicago but it is one of the more pack traffic streets. The
restaurants such as Golden Village, as for example, is affordable to everyone. Thefood is not as
costly and you pick meal as cheap as 5 to 8 dollars. Another place would be a flea market which is
a couple of streets away from Central Park. Different type of stations for food, clothing, and
games, and accessories. It's popular among the Mexican community for its price and waves of
varieties in the market. Clothing is not as expensive but still affordable with Nike, Adidas, and
North Face. For renting, it about 600 to 800 dollars depending on the amount of space you'll need
and the location. One thing to know is that most people are rather struggling with money because of
the large amount trying to have a job. Downtown is the same but not a tremendous like here in
Central Park.
Does it matter where in Chicago that someone might live? Well, yes and no because it mostly does
depend on your taste and your financial situation. I would recommend not living Downtown but in
the Hermosa area. You can live peacefully and Jobs wouldn't be difficult. The neighborhoods I
mention have other places that could meet your

Musical Analysis Of Chicago The Musical Analysis of CHICAGO THE MUSCIAL CHICAGO THE MUSCIAL is an American Musical production directed by Bob Fosse, Walter Bobbie, contributed to by John Kander, & Fred Ebb. The original play Chicago (1926) by reporter and playwright Maurine Dallas Watkins. She who was assigned to cover the 1924 trials of accused murderers Beulah Annan and Belva Gaertner for the Chicago Tribune. The original musical productions played from 1975–1979 in New York. Then was revived in 1996 and has traveled worldwide and been in production since. In 2003 the Professional show moved in to the Amador Theatre on W 49th St in Manhattan. Chicago is a dynamic, and sensual production based on the 1920s in America as to how show business and the media make celebrities out of criminals. Through its dynamic directing and acting the show captured the audience and took us to the 1920s City of Chicago. All performs in the production were wearing costumes of black color and the style in the 1920s, along with a simple orchestra in the background, this made clear the setting in which the story takes place. The production is unlike others in that the whole production is made of many smaller simpler acts based of the theater genre called "vaudeville acts". What was the original director's vision and intent of the audience viewing it? Fosse wrote this production to be entertaining and yet at the same time shocking, sexual and daring. When the production opened there had been few who dared to run such a sexually Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Amos told Billy he would have the money for him. However, when Amos came to Billy office he was short and Billy told him he could not take his wife's case, but just as Amos was walking out of his office, Billy had a change of heart and took Roxie's case. Billy loved to get the case that would make big news. Billy also loved any opportunity to get his face in front of the media, more than he loved assisting his client. Billy was smart to know if he wins his case, the media attention will make him more famous. Lucy Liu played Kitty Baxter. Kitty Baxter was the women who would kick Roxie's murder case out of the spotlight. Roxie had been the big thing and until Kitty came in. Roxie then became old news. No one even cared about who Roxie was even though she was found not guilty. This movie shows a lot of love, sexual content and betrayal. Velma and Roxie were at odds with each other through–out the film. But, when two ladies put there differences aside they became the biggest name is show business. First, the ladies had to work through the hated for each other to find out truthfully what each other can do. • 3. New Orleans Vs Chicago Style Analysis Three prominent difference between New Orleans and Chicago style Dixieland is the instruments that are being used, rhythm changes from "flat four" to a "two" feel, and individual solos are more important. New Orleans is considered the traditional Dixieland which is where most of Chicago style comes from turning the significance as Bruce Chidester's "What is the Difference Between New Orleans and Chicago Dixieland Jazz?", blog explains how Chicago's Dixieland is considered by "The term 'new' or 'modern Dixieland' [referring] to a Chicago style" leading to such differences. The New Orleans style was considered "marching", as Maurice Gerow, David Megill, and Paul Tanner in "Early New Orleans and Chicago Style Jazz." • 4. Crime In Chicago Essay Chicago has been gaining a reputation as of late for being a very dangerous place to live. "Chicago police records recorded 506 murders in 2012, with an estimated 80 percent being gang related" (NBA). "In 2012, the city of Chicago alone recorded over 506 dead which was twice as many as New York, and 200 more than Los Angeles" (Tu). Englewood, which has the highest homicide rates in the city show poverty may be the underlining factor. The neighborhood of Englewood has a population of 30,654, and 42.2 percent of them are below poverty level (Tu). It goes to show the correlation between poverty and crime; crime is indeed a distinct reflection of crime. Chicago's population is divided between 29 % Hispanics, 33% blacks, and 32% whites (Craig)....show more content... The differences above, averaging about 13 to one, are staggering. This is what apartheid looks like. (Bogira) There were many attacks on the homes of African–American who tried to move into white neighborhoods, which caused this racial segregation. The difference between the two types of neighborhoods are apparent how poverty affects the area. Chicago's crime stricken neighborhoods have a lot to do with the poverty in the area: A National Institute of Health study that focused on the effects of mass incarceration on Chicago's neighborhoods found that communities marked by poverty and racial segregation experience incarceration rates that are more than three times higher communities with similar crime rates. (Bedi) This shows the more poverty in certain area the more incline for there to be higher crime rates." Chicago's west and south sides have incarceration rates that are double–and sometimes triple–the national average" (Bedi). Derrick Rose Chicago Bulls star point guard who grew up in Southside Chicago attributes the violence in the city of Chicago to poverty." People are just surviving, they're really just trying to get out" (NBA). Everybody wants to live the lifestyle and they want to do it Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Short Essay On Chicago Although Chicago is a wonderful town with soaring skylines, diverse restaurants, and amazing culture, much of America tends to overlook the Midwestern metropolis. So, the city talks itself up and creates folklore through its history and numerous nicknames, like the second city or the city of big shoulders. But, those legends can cloak its past and self–awareness in a fog of immense pride. The city of Chicago wants the world to see their history as a founding by great men, who overcame adversity through inspired ideas. However, this boosted narrative hides the innate conflict of the town's beginning and glosses over the laborers' maltreatment through the myth of the hustling working man. When remembering the founding, the Chicago government and historical...show more content... For example, on historical sculptures bordering the Chicago River, the city carved many explorers' and traders' names into eternal bronze, even dedicating one of the four biographical monuments to solely Marquette and Joliet, the French Fur Traders who stumbled upon the future site of the city. In an attempt to rival sophisticated New York, Chicago boosts its originators to the status of the eastern founding fathers. Still, many historians seem to diminish the life of Baptiste Pointe De Sable, the first permanent resident and a man of Haitian decent, because they do not want a black founder tainting their new set of colonial elite. The city just recently built a De Sable plaque and bust near the bridge, but Joliet and Marquette's dedication dwarfs his. Similarly, the Chicago History Museum also emphasizes great men with a painting of Marquette and Joliet as the largest artifact, also almost completely ignoring De Sable and the workers. Although these individuals did have a large impact on Chicago's fast growth, this great man history ignores the real workers who physically built the town. Another monument on Michigan Ave. depicts Columbia looking to the sun Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Chicago Style Paper Samples Either you are a student or a working professional, it is inevitable that you have to submit an assignment or write an industry report. And it imperative and crucial for you to get it right. So let's just face it and try to help ourselves get it right. And to do so a lot of what you write, its credibility and the fact whether it's intended reader or audience is convinced by your findings or not depends to large extent on how you write it , not what it says. That may sound disappointing to many people because to them the content is important but to the readers it's presentation reflects its authenticity. Your paper has to be flawless with no mistakes of spellings or punctuation even, because logically a person who doesn't even know correct writing skills, there is no guarantee for the reader about the creditability of the content. In any case, if you want to write the perfect research paper there is a very good book I'd like to recommend to you; "A Manual for Writers of Research Papers, Theses, and Dissertations– Chicago Style for Students and Researchers" by Kathy L. Turabian, 2007....show more content... The author has given a lot of emphasis on preparing and planning your work and given lots of tips in this regard. She has even suggested that you spend more time organizing, outlining, and setting up your work then you do actually writing it and technically speaking it lessens your work immensely, the only thing that remains to be done after planning is writing out the subject matter according to your plan . The author also makes a very good point that it's best to write. The author has also made a very good point by suggesting that you write the title of your paper last, because by the time you end it, you might have slightly modified what the paper is about, and the title will make Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 8. The Chicago School Of Architecture The Chicago School of Architecture was developed by William Le Baron Jenney between the years of 1879–1910. It is usually known as the term "Chicago School" for its skyscraper architecture (Chicago School of Architecture 2). Not only did Jenney help develop the school, but other American architects as well like William Holabird, Louis Sullivan, Martin Roche, and others as well. There were two schools made during this period The First Chicago School of Architecture and The Second Chicago School of Architecture. The second school centered around the European Modernism. Three factors that contributed to the Chicago School of Architecture where the rapid need to build buildings to serve the industrial society, the development of construction using steel, and the strong desire to create a modern style. To begin with, after the fire of 1871, Chicago became a dense population, area and the value of the state lived up. By 1890, Chicago had more than one million people and had surpassed Philadelphia population and became second–biggest city in the United States (Lowe 1). People started to travel over to Chicago and started to settle there. The more people traveling to Chicago meant that they would have to build more buildings both commercial and property. The problem was that Chicago stood in a deluge, and then it was hard to build homes using the techniques they knew. They knew how to build structures using the traditional walls of brick and stone, but was not capable to stay up Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. The Chicago Blues, A Style Of Blues Chicago Blues The Chicago blues was a style of blues that developed, as the name suggests, in Chicago. It was a more modern type of blues and came about after the Great Migration of the 1900s. More than half a million African Americans migrated from the Mississippi Delta and headed north, towards cities like Chicago and Detroit (Public Broadcasting Service, 2015). The Great Migration was a mass migration of African Americans from the south to northern states, as stated earlier. They moved in search of jobs in the more industrial sector of the United States and took the culture of blues music in the Mississippi Delta with them (About.com, 2015). For some, Chicago is just another location, a point on the map, but for me it has a special place in my heart, due to the weather, its stunning beauty and the way it gives me a sense of belonging. Beginning, my memories of Chicago are tied to one specific yet beautiful time I went to Grant's Park in the spring. The first element that made this trip truly amazing was the weather. Of course, it is a simple thing, but such a simple thing as the type of day it was really had an impact on me. The day started cold, the brisk wind biting my lips, making me sink deeper into my jacket. The metal of the handrail on the bridge stung my fingers as the wind whispered into my ears. It seemed to be what one...show more content... I have always been in love with big cities, but this part of Chicago is such an important place to me because of its overall beauty. • 13. The Art Institute of Chicago Essay The building at 111 South Michigan Avenue, home of the Art Institute of Chicago, was opened in 1893 as the World's Congress Auxiliary Building for the World's Columbian Exposition. The building was passed on to the Art Institute after the end of the exposition. Designed in the Beax–Arts style by Boston firm Shepley, Rutan, and Coolidge, building has become an icon for chicagoans an tourists alike. The Modern Wing, the Art Institute's latest and largest addition to date, opened on May 16, 2009, and was designed by Pritzker Prize–winning architect Renzo Piano. The 264,000 square foot addition now houses the museum's collections of modern European painting and sculpture, contemporary art, architecture and design, and photography. The new...show more content... The main building of the Art Institute is constructed mostly of masonry, with few windows, and feels very heavy and overpowering. Grand staircases and large columns dwarf visitors as they move through the galleries. This is similar to the way the art in the space makes you feel: small, unimportant, and sometimes even afraid. The Modern wing in constructed of steel and glass, and is very open and bright (except when intended not to be). The large north wall facing Millenium Park is one large expanse of windows, letting in plenty of indirect sunlight, and opening the gallery to the park. The space feels very light, in both senses of the word. As with the old building, the art feels similar to the space in that it is more open and less opressive. The two buildings also differ in the way they interact with the city, since they have vastly differing neighbors. The main building is centered on Adams street and faces the Loop, the busiest area of the city. Flanking the main entrance are two large, bronze, lions that seem to protect the building from the city, while still allowing visitors to enter and exit the museum. The new Modern Wing, however, facesChicago's Millenium Park. The face of the building along the park side is a large face of windows. So, while the old building is trying to shut out the city to create a space for itself, the Modern Wing is opening itself up to let the park Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 15. Descriptive Essay : ' The Chicago ' Walking up to the door, we took in the scenery of a family of four sitting at a dark, brown circular table, hanging out as if this was the place to be. As soon as we walked in the door, the mouth watering smell of sweet, burning, crispy bacon and pepperoni enticed me. We hadn't eaten all day and this was our first time in this particular place. I knew this experience would be great when I saw just how many people it attracted. It attracted people of many backgrounds and of many ages. I realized we stood out when Dennis (the pizzaiolo) saw that it must've been our first time. He informed us of how things worked; how the pizzas were individually crafted and made from the interpretation of various cities, how you could make your own pizza...show more content... Every table appeared free of crumbs and sauce stains as they sat shining under the fluorescent lights. Opening the box of pizza we saw that it was unbelievably thin. When I picked up my slice, the cheese was gooey and hot. I like that the food was fire cooked right in front of our faces so we didn't have to worry about where our food has been when we finally got it. The toppings started to spill off as I took my first bite. The pizza was mind–blowing. I had never tasted anything so savory. When we were full we still didn't want to stop eating (it was that good). One box just wasn't enough, we needed more. When we got down to our last slices of pizza we realized that we were, in fact, full. As we sat in the booth, more people walked into the doors looking as if they've been there a thousand times before, so eager; knowing exactly what they would be ordering. Then there was the people like Darell and I, who supposedly looked like lost puppies; unaware of what they were going to get off of the menu; unaware of the delicious pizza they were about to receive. Seeing all of the people from different walks of life, so excited to eat this pizza was great. Although the slices were only big enough to feed a five year old, it was oddly satisfying and just enough to fill us up. The pizza looked exactly as it did on the menu. The employees' customer service was way over the top. They made sure that we were contented with our choice and always had a smile Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 17. Examples Of Health Disparities In Chicago Chicago is portrayed as a diverse city, especially in downtown Chicago. However, Chicago is, in fact, a segregated city. On the Northside of Chicago, the population is predominantly white, while on the South and West Side the population is made up of Hispanics and African Americans. To begin, living on the South and West Sides, someone is more likely to eat unhealthily. For example, on the Northside someone will be able to find grocery stores that have organic food, unlike on the South Side, where stores that sell organic food are limited; this difference represents health disparities. Health disparities can be defined as different people in certain neighborhoods do not get the same health benefits as other neighborhoods. The biggest threat to social justice in Chicago are health disparities, especially in the South and West Sides of town because people who are living there are more prone to diseases, people are prevented from eating healthily, and they are prevented from getting simple exercise. Health disparities are not based on income but on location. In Chicago, health disparities are a major problem because of segregation. While, on the Northside, someone is less likely to experience health disparities, it's different on the South and West Sides. When someone looks at a map, they do not see how segregated a city is, but when someone is analyzing a certain neighborhood in Chicago, they will be able to see how segregated the city is. A study shows how neighborhoods in Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Chicago Neighborhood Analysis Chicago neighborhoods are different but closely similar to style and layout. It's a diverse city with areas that have different atmospheres with parks, restaurants, etc. I want to focus more on 'rich' and 'poor' and 'middle' as a whole. The people would be the main source with the part of living standards about the neighborhood I'm from. This would give a better understanding of how exactly the area is. Rich is vague term because no one can be rich easily become one than the other. People are usually the same in terms of where they're currently living. Lincoln Park is northeast of downtown Chicago, very active much like the rest of downtown. The neighborhood is a pack of expensive restaurants, stores and the park itself. Take the restaurants...show more content... The area is an array of houses at every corner. People get up to work very early morning and it's a hassle. It is not a popular area in Chicago but it is one of the more pack traffic streets. The restaurants such as Golden Village, as for example, is affordable to everyone. Thefood is not as costly and you pick meal as cheap as 5 to 8 dollars. Another place would be a flea market which is a couple of streets away from Central Park. Different type of stations for food, clothing, and games, and accessories. It's popular among the Mexican community for its price and waves of varieties in the market. Clothing is not as expensive but still affordable with Nike, Adidas, and North Face. For renting, it about 600 to 800 dollars depending on the amount of space you'll need and the location. One thing to know is that most people are rather struggling with money because of the large amount trying to have a job. Downtown is the same but not a tremendous like here in Central Park. Does it matter where in Chicago that someone might live? Well, yes and no because it mostly does depend on your taste and your financial situation. I would recommend not living Downtown but in the Hermosa area. You can live peacefully and Jobs wouldn't be difficult. If a paper is written in the incorrect format, than the person reviewing the paper will not feel that the paper is creditable or they would feel the writer just did not put in the effort.
