The Battle of Jhelum took place in 326 BC as part of Alexander the Great's campaign in India. After conquering territories to the west, Alexander continued his military campaign eastward for several strategic and personal reasons: to secure his existing conquests, pursue further conquest due to disunity among Indian princes, wealth, a desire to reach the eastern ocean and edge of the world, and to embark on a journey of geographic and scientific discovery.
