ABSTRACT
In January 2004, TimesJobs.com, the fastest growing and most innovative Indian online
recruitment portal, was born with a mission to reach out to all Indians in the country and
abroad and provide them with the best career opportunities available. Its focus was to
ensure their skills were showcased and matched suitably with the HR requirements of
employers from diverse industries, in a timesaving and cost-efficient manner. Its
concentrated approach has made TimesJobs.com the blue-eyed boy of recruiters and
aspirants alike.
TimesJobs.com, had achieved the distinction of becoming India’s No.1 recruitment portal in
India in April 2007, with the largest number of active jobseekers and a database of over 10
million candidates with over 20,000 new resumes added every day, we offer one of the
largest database of active jobseekers in India today. In addition, thousands of better paying
jobs available from more than 25,000 TimesJobs.com clients, including blue-chip companies
from India and abroad, ensures that the search always yields results.
As part of our CSR activities, TimesJobs.com also forged alliances with The Indian Army –
TimesJobs.com was the only website with the wherewithal and credentials to tie up with
their placement agencies. TimesJobs.com collaborated with the Indian Army Welfare
Placement Organisation (AWPO), to leverage the skills of the retiring army personnel in
facilitating their entry into the corporate world, and successfully established the website
solution –www.exarmynaukri.com in 2005.
In February 2006, the company launch of its Gulf portal, ae.TimesJobs.com, becoming the
first Indian job site with an international footprint. The Gulf portal is intended as a platform
where companies based in Bahrain, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and
UAE, converge with talent from India to satisfy their HR requirements. Not only that,
residents of this region can apply for jobs in Gulf countries and India, through
ae.TimesJobs.com.
Most recently in October 2009, TimesJobs Global Connect was launched that enabled users
to link all their professional online identities and work to their TimesJobs.com resume. A
candidate can link their chat ID’s, professional profiles, websites, blog links, embed work
samples, etc. in their TimesJobs.com Resume.

MANAGEMENT SUMMARY
Challenge-driven, enthusiastic and forever aiming for higher goals, Times group
management is the motivating force behind the company’s success. It is through their
guidance and sheer passion to excel that TimesJobs has reached the pinnacle and will
continue to be a leader.
Leadership style of the management
TimesJobs implicates democratic leadership style where they solicit advice, opinions,
information from their followers, and share decision making with their followers.
The leader presents the problem to the sub-ordinates and invites them for the discussion
and then takes up the role of the facilitator and supervises the process of decision making.
The leader allows the decision to emerge out of the process of group discussion, instead of
imposing it on the group as its boss.
TimesJobs.com’s leaders use their power to set the constraints within which follower’s skills,
as well as their own interpersonal ability and knowledge of their follower’s needs, interests,
and capabilities.
Organisational structure
TimesJobs.com operates like a Vertical sales organisation structure where authority or

manager or the Sales manager. This structure is shown below in the next page

people, create 1.3 million jobs every year and produce more than 8000 quality products for

Low pricing strategy-Since TimesJobs.com is very new in the market as compared to the
other giant portals like Naukri.com and Jobsahead.com etc. capturing the lion part of the
market, they adopted this type of pricing strategy in order to gain the market share. Under
this
type
of
pricing
strategy
TimesJobs.com offers a
relatively low price to
stimulate demand and gain market
share
compared
to
their
competitors.
Quality customer service-Quality customer service is very important to any business.
The company may have a very good product, but if the customers are not treated well, they
will not come back.Customers are the lifeblood of any company. If they are satisfied, they
will become their regular customers.Good customer service helps the company to form a
better relationship with their clients and this is what TimesJobs is looking for and they pull
their full effort in achieving the client’s belief on them and in return the company tries to
satisfy the customer according to the customer’s need. Again a quality customer service has
become a tool for TimesJobs.com which are helping them to achieve their sales goals.
Happy and contented clients refer the company to other business prospects.
FUTURE ADOPTED STRATEGIES
Diversifying in to educational sector-When it comes to future adopted strategies,
diversifying into educational portal comes first. TimesJobs in order to expand their business,
they decided to diversify their activities towards the educational institutes and in short the
this type of diversification is called concentric diversification. Under this strategy,
TimesJobs.com includes the educational sectors into their considerations with their regular
SME segment where the company provides recruitment and branding solutions to the
educational institutes and thus expanding their market share.
Tying up with Harrison Assessment certifications-Going beyond the industry
standard services of sourcing and screening, TimesJobs.com will now offer suitability
assessments of jobseekers by adding Harrison Assessment Systems to its portfolio.
TimesJobs.com is now the "Official India Partner" for Harrison Assessments and offers a
world renowned service that can secure a high-growth and successful career - by judging
not just eligibility but suitability as well - providing a win-win situation for all its stakeholders

- partnering employers, institutions and jobseekers, the portal added.
Harrison Assessments delivers assessment tool methodologies that will virtually insure to
identify and hire the best candidate for the job. This tools quantify both eligibility (skills,
experience and education) and suitability (motivation, personality, work values, interests
and work preferences).
Our assessment tools automate the recruitment process and make employee
development more effective. The customizable and flexible system allows for detailed
weighting and scoring of eligibility and suitability factors.
Quality service provider-For any service industry, quality service provider is one of the
main strategies that they should look into and which is also same for TimesJobs.com. Under
this column the company is trying to do their after sales service much more effective in
order to retain their potential customers as well as make their service much more effective.
Washing out Monsterindia out of the way- Monsterindia is one of the main
competitors of TimesJobs along with the giant Naukri.com. Since Monsterindia and
TimesJobs both have nearly same market share where TimesJobs ranks 2nd every time
gaining more market share than the Monsterindia, hence TimesJobs are trying to finish its
competitor in their future strategies which will ultimately increase TimesJobs.com’s market
share.

Market Share
This chart will be represented with the help of a special statistical tool namelyThe
Herfindahl - Hirschman index , which will show the market share ofTimesJobs in
comparison with some of the major online Job portal which is gathered through the survey.
The Herfindahl - Hirschman index
"HHI" means the Herfindahl-Hirschman Index, a commonly accepted measure of market
concentration. It is calculated by squaring the market share of each firm competing in the
market and then summing the resulting numbers.
The HHI takes into account the relative size and distribution of the firms in a market and
Sukalpa Das |Indian Institute of Planning & Management
33

approaches zero when a market consists of a large number of firms of relatively equal size.
The HHI increases both as the number of firms in the market decreases and as the disparity
in size between those firms increases.
Markets in which the HHI is between 1000 and 1800 points are considered to be moderately
concentrated, and those in which the HHI is in excess of 1800 points are considered to be
concentrated. Transactions that increase the HHI by more than 100 points in concentrated
markets presumptively raise antitrust concerns under the Horizontal Merger Guidelines
issued by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission
where si is the market share of firm i in the market, and N is the number of firms. Thus, in a
market with two firms that each have 50 percent market share, the Herfindahl index
equals 0.502 + 0.502 = 1 / 2.
CALCULATION OF THE HERFINDAHL – HIRSCHMAN INDEX:-

FINDINGS & OBSERVATIONS
The portals like timesjobs.com, naukri.com etc. are basically used by many big and small
companies in order to fulfil the vacant position in the organization. But on the other hand it
is also evident that hardly any organization recruits someone in the post of CEO or CFO or
Director. Job portals are mainly used to fill up the vacancies in the lower and middle level
post in an organization.
During my internship I have found that most of the organization especially BPO & IT
companies, which are planning to recruit bulk employees for their various posts are much
interested in job portal rather than newspaper advertisement. The main reason behind this
could be the cost and time. Both the BPO and IT companies often requires manpower in
regular basis. So they require some fast way of recruiting employees. Job portals are much
faster in getting response than newspaper advertisement. Even the cost is also very lower in
this kind of recruitment .Job portal is also considered to be effective in case of head hunting.
Many companies especially engineering companies are ready to spend money to hire

employees from their respective competitors. As these job portals offer proper database &
some head hunt search facility to their clients, it is always preferred to them than a
newspaper advertisement.
During Project I found that there are many companies who were not ready to share their
personal information to other companies and mostly these companies were small and
medium companies who work for the big players in the markets, although most of them are
not satisfied with the print media. So when I offered them to use times job’s advertisement
facility, they showed interest in my offer as it is much cost effective way of recruitment than
the print media.
So I can conclude that the recruitment patterns of the large companies are mainly
dependent on placement consultancies, job portals or on own HR department. On the other
hand Recruitment patterns of the small & medium companies are largely dependent on
print media or own references.
LEARNINGS
The key leanings from the “Analysis of current market scenario of TimesJobs.com” includes
The analysis the market scenario of TIMESJOBS.
To understand there recruitment pattern of various companies.
To find out the various recruitment requirement of various company.
To generate lead which can be used for future follow up.
The job portal industry, dependent on economic boom that increased job opportunities, is
already under pressure as the IT companies slowed their campus placement. The major job
portals in India are naukri.com, monsterindia.com, timesjobs.com, jobsahead.com,
jobsdb.com, jobstreet.com, shine.com and some others. The Rs 2.39 billion Info Edge owns
the country’s leading job site www.naukri.com and commands 50 percent of the Rs.3.5
billion job portal market share.

RECOMMENDATION
From the analysis of the data collected for the study. The following are the suggestions,
which can be consider for improving the current market base.
Times jobs.com is a job portal and has a very strong presence in India and is rapidly
growing in outside India also. After working on this project I felt that there are some
small areas where the company should give some focus to improve the market base.
The percentage of companies using portal is comparative less compare to companies
using other means, which is a huge market to tap.
Awareness of times jobs has increase to great extent, but it come to portal in the
mind of people naukri.com come first. To overcome this more effort had to put in
promotion effort.
Company should follow up each & every company who is looking for price
quotations. If possible mail the required quotations where there is a possibility
of sales.
According to the survey I came around 9% of the companies use times jobs, in which
some of them are big companies who use all the other job portals also, so the real
competition is on the those areas where the company has to increase the awareness
and make its base strong.
Even though it has less number of job seeker compare to Naukri in it database, but
the database it has is fresh and different from other jobs portal which company are
looking for.
In the study I came across many interested company but they did not buy the

product as then did not have any requirement and has to be follow up time to time .
Other Job portal sales there product in less price by decreasing the number of
viewing, which Times Jobs is not able to as it cannot decrease the number of
viewing.
Another important thing which I find after completing my survey is that TimesJobs
needs to increase their after sales service much effectively, since they didn’t have
after sales service as good as compared with Naukri.com.
