Descriptive Essay Woods
The Woods
I don't know why we thought it was such a great idea to go to the woods on a rainy day. What
were we thinking? I thought 'hey maybe we can have an adventure and explore around those woods
we always pass by.' What a horrible mistake, but I wasn't the only one who thought that was the best
idea ever at the time.
It was a gloomy day, the dusty clouds taking up space from the grey sky, laying down on my comfy
bed as I'm wrapped around with my blanket, I decided to check on my phone. "Hey, want to hang out
today?"
"Sure"
"What should we do?"
"Let's go to the woods that's near your house"
"That sounds like a wonderful idea!" I quickly got up and put on some shorts and a tank top. I
looked around my room and finally found my black shoes and decided to bring an umbrella too
just in case it rain hard. I was so excited to go explore and take beautiful pictures at the woods. I grab
my bag and told my dad I was ready to leave to my friend's house, I remember the car ride felt like it
took forever. Finally, I arrive at her house, I knock on her door and as usual her Russian terrier starts
to bark. "Taylor shut up or go outside!" I could just hear her screaming at the dog to calm down. The
door opened slowly and there she was, I could tell she was also excited to go and explore around just
like me. "Hey Lirio, come inside."
"Are you ready to have an adventure" with such happiness on my

Descriptive Essay On Imagine A Cloud
Ever since I was young, I have had a passion for reading and writing. It is just something that has
always come easily to me. So when eleven–year–old me walked through the dimly lit hallways of
Johnsonville Elementary School, into a strange classroom, and sat in my boxed–in–desk and was
told that I was writing a descriptive essay, I was extremely excited. It would be the first time that I
had ever written a descriptive–based paper. Nevertheless, it was a newly–introduced challenge, and I
was ready to take it on. "Okay class", said the plump teacher standing in the front of the room, "I
have been informed that each of you needs to write an essay for the state." "I hope it is about
monsters and astronauts!", the student beside me said....show more content...
"I then sat down in my seat and felt the cotton–lined cushions. They were the softest things that I had
ever felt and I truly would never forget them", I added. I then continued, "However, my experience
was interrupted by a loud tra–". Again, I didn't like that. "There must be a better word than loud.", I
thought, "What is it though?"
I went through every possible word before I finally found the word that I liked. "However, my
experience was interrupted by a screaming whistle. The train was getting ready to move and I
needed to prepare myself for it" "That sounds a lot better!", I said to myself. I kept writing. "I
then felt the train shift forwards and we started going. I looked out of the window and saw the
fluffy, Grey clouds of smoke rise above us." "Just like she told us." I wrote and smiled. "Not long
after, I heard three bold knocks on the door of the train car that I was in.", I wrote, "It was a man
wearing a nicely tailored suit asking if I wanted some sweets. Of course, I couldn't resist and took
them up in a heartbeat." I paused for a few moments, and continued "He ended up giving me some
chocolate cupcakes with the most delicious frosting that I have ever had." I started to lick my lips
from just thinking about it. "When I finished the last one, I looked out the window and saw the train
station. Just as quick as I had gotten on, the train arrived at its destination.", I concluded my paper
and read it over a thousand times. When I

Descriptive Essay Final The downtown metropolis can be a complex place, and some may need
to become accustomed to it. It is Five O' Clock in the afternoon. The sun is starting to drag itself
lower, dimming the landscape, leaving a majestic orange on the horizon. The towering structures
above leave enormous shadows on the people below. Car horns ring and sirens pulse, as the
people make haste towards there destinations, rushing aggressively as if though it is a race. The
end of the work day has just began. The craze is unique from anywhere else. An endless flow of

Lush, green trees are everywhere. Every house and small business seems to have one or two of
them. The car makes it's way down a small street, with old fashioned houses. The car comes to a
halt in front of a beautiful tan house. The house feels cozy. The tan painted planks of wood stack
up until they reach the charcoal shingles of the rooftop. Two enormous windows are on the front
of the house, with fine, white curtains that can be seen hanging from them on the other side. On
the left side of a house there is a large chimney, which gives the house a traditional look with it's
brown and red bricks. In the front yard of the house there is a smooth, clean concrete walkway to
the front door, surrounded by many bushes, and flowers; trimmed perfectly. This house is well
kept, and it stands out as a beauty in the neighborhood. The man walks up his paved walkway, and
into the house through a large white door, with four small windows on it, and a cross like pattern
beneath them. The doors gives of the look as if it is an entryway to heaven. The house is peaceful.
Only the birds chirping in the trees can be heard. And as the man enters his house excited children

Descriptive essay is one of the many types of writing styles that provides a detailed description for
a particular person, place, memory, experience or object. Descriptive essay is purposely created so
readers can readily imagine its particular subject matter. It focuses on the five senses which are sight,
smell, touch, sound and taste.

In fact, nature appears in its best form. It provides us with all kinds of pleasure.
Other things that I also love about spring are those smells that are widespread in nature. The air is
fresh and full of pleasant aromas of different flowers. When I am walking in the fields or any other
place during spring time, my noses catch a mixture of smells that really increases my strong love for
nature.
I will now say I am absolutely calm when I am listening, feeling, smelling, and looking at the spring
around me. Spring is my favourite season, and nature when it is spring is relaxing and comfortable.
The earth wears a green dress. Again it comes to life.

How to Write a Descriptive Essay
More than many other types of essays, descriptive essays strive to create a deeply involved and
vivid experience for the reader. Great descriptive essays achieve this affect not through facts and
statistics but by using detailed observations and descriptions.
What do you want to describe?
As you get started on your descriptive essay, it's important for you to identify exactly what you
want to describe. Often, a descriptive essay will focus on portraying one of the following: a person a
place a memory an experience an object
Ultimately, whatever you can perceive or experience can be the focus of your descriptive writing.

Descriptive Essay : Words, Words
Words? What is the meaning of words? Through someone's aspect, it could be considered as the
most efficient communicating tool of human being. On the other hand, some people may treat it as
an irreplaceable expression of their emotion. Objectively speaking, "words" could definitely be
concluded in both ways above, but in my opinion, using words is a privilege and honor. I use
words to gain knowledge and words give me all kinds of possibilities of understanding new stuff
when I intend to enhance my personal abilities.
–When do you like words; when not? Mostly, words represents simple language communication and
stand for a carrier of people's emotion. For example, I felt very upset and frustrated when I got a
few deny letters from some universities I applied in the last year of my high school. During that
time, every single word from these letters turned to be sharp and dreadful. However, when I have
a chat with my old friends, I usually enjoy every moment of texting and also enjoy every word I
type during those chats. In general, whether I like or dislike some certain words, it is not only
depends on words itself, but also depends on the words–using in its different situations.
–What's easy; what's not? Personally, I think poems and some traditional literatures are very hard
for me. In contrast, I feel easy when I read novels and scientific papers.
–Who are you as a reader, writer, thinker, speaker, listener?
– If you're lucky enough to think, read, hear, write in

The Importance Of Descriptive Writing
The use of descriptive writing is often found in works of fiction, giving the reader the opportunity to
visualize the world that the author wants them to see. Descriptive writing becomes much more
valuable, however, when it is used in non–fiction works that may be used to survive. The ability to
precisely describe plants, animals, and the environment can be the difference between life and death.
This was indeed the case with the journals of the early explorers Meriwether Lewis, William Clark,
and other party members as they explored North America in the early 1800s. The accounts produced
by members of the expedition party, both written and drawn, would eventually lead to the expansion
of the United States by providing accurate and...show more content...
The men on this journey were all healthy young men excited about a paid adventure. One must
consider the exertion the expedition party faced and be able to compare the party's progress against
one's own ability. If the men grew tired over a stretch of land, then the later traveler must be aware of
their own capability and accept their limitations when considering the explorer's timeframe and the
amount of ground covered.
After an accident with a canoe, which occurred on the 6th of August 1805, had left Whitehouse
and Clark injured Lewis wrote, "Whitehouse is in much pain this evening with the injury one of
his legs sustained from the canoe today at the time it upset and swing over him. Capt Clarks
ankle is also very painfull [sic] to him. We should have given the party a days [sic] rest some
where [sic] near this place". Since the injuries occurred, the party continued to walk for at least 10
miles before setting up camp. This was an impressive venture, considering Whitehouse could have
died had the water been any shallower. The men's ability to continue their journey despite injuries
was remarkable and not easily replicated. A later traveler should recognize this feat and should not
compare himself to the accomplishment of the expedition party. Lewis had even wanted to stop the
party to give the injured men at least a day's rest, but they persevered. Also, the fact that members of
the party were injured, was not necessary to include. It would

I'm going to describe a girl for you, try to keep up. Long light brown hair, vintage classy glasses,
one lonely dimple on the lower part of her mouth, soft pale skin, stone cold stare, and a dry sense
of humor. Can you picture her? Well if you can, then you've basically just met me. I usually try to
force a smile, wait no scratch that– I used to try to force a smile. Now I'm not saying this so that you
can view me as unhappy or negative, but in all fairness who has a smile as their natural way of
expression. By all means, my personality, interests, and hobbies are the fundamental building blocks
to the life I choose to live.
Is it too cliche to say that I am a teenage girl with big insecurities, an addiction with comparing
myself to others, and deepening trust issues? Well if it is, then add being cliche to the list. I guess
you can say my insecurities originate from the fact that my biggest critic is my own mother. From
the earliest years of elementary up till this present day, it was either my wardrobe, my posture, or
my way of speaking that gained the attention of my mother's judgmental eye. Eventually, the
criticism started to slip out of my own mouth, and that's when I began to compare myself to others.
I'm not oblivious to how unhealthy this makes me, but when I am told that I need to be better

The Class Everyone Dreads "Is EN100 a useful class to take?," this was a question I got asked by
a junior at my school. They were looking for classes to take next year; I told them that it was an
abundant amount of writing, but it was a great class to take. I went on to explain to them, that
taking it in high school would be easier and cheaper than in college. Beginning to explain to them
that it helped me grow as a writer and helped improve my English vocabulary, I realized it helped a
whole lot. Throughout the first semester of school, we had to write essays over four different topics.
These included informative, observation, reflection, and descriptive essays. I told them about my
experiences while writing with these certain types of essays. This is what I said: The first essay we
wrote was the descriptive writing style. I wrote an essay called, "Burger King's Crusty Castle". In
this essay, I wrote about the filth inside of the restaurant. Throughout this essay I got better with
describing every little detail in the story. I started off by saying, "The tea urns (used to keep all of
the freshly made tea in) smell like something had crawled in them and died" ("Burger King's
Crusty Castle"1). I eventually changed it to say, "The tea urns (used to keep all of the freshly
made tea in) smell like a skunk that has just been ran over" ("Burger King's Crusty Castle"11). I
added detail to the sentence to make it sound more fluent and to make you feel as if you could smell
it. It

Three Descriptive Research Methods Essay
One of of three methods used for descriptive research is the case study. The case study method is
the oldest form of research used in psychology today. To help you better understand what case
studies are I would recommend you think of an individual person case. Case study is when
someone studies one person to explain things that happen for all of us. Basically applying the
outcome to all people ; one representing all. Case studies will describe your behavior. In present
day we have noticed that although the individual cases may be accurate, it only applies to that one
person. There will always be a conflict of interest because what may happen to one person does not
necessarily happen to the next. For example you may say that after...show more content...
This type of research gathers information from a large group of people. It will be not go into depth
as much as the case study might and involves many cases. As an example think of making you own
survey and distributing it out to various amounts of people, gathering the information and
conducting you hypothesis. We are constantly asked to participate in surveys whether its an
internet advertisement or a class handout from the college you attend. When asking you question
you have to be careful as to how you word the question. The words you choose may influence a
participant to lean toward a certain side. You may sound biased toward one issue which will effect
you survey and hypothesis. Using random sampling allows researcher to have a fair representation
of the subjects under study. Every person has an equal chance of participating. I would use this
method with very larger groups of people. Ex. school. The last from of research would be naturalistic
observation. Basically watching and recording the behavior of different subjects in the natural
environment.Much of the reality shows today could be considered a form of naturalistic observation.
Pending on how much the program actually interferes with the subject , they allow for an interesting
hypothesis. This research will describe the behavior of an subject. Now that we have the information
from the research we can evaluate the differences and similarities. When the research reveals that one

It was a seemingly beautiful day as I drove on a joy ride in my bright blue sports car, with the
wind in my hair. This is an everyday activity for me. My friends would mock me saying, "You
spend more money on gas than you make working." I laughed to myself at the thought of jokes
amongst my friends. That happiness was soon halted. As I continued driving, I saw a car coming
rapidly around the curve. The car did not show any signs of slowing down as it headed towards the
intersection. The light turned yellow and then quickly red. Another object caught my eye that made
me fear what was going to happen next. A young couple started crossing the street wearing fancy
attire. The first thought that came to mind was, 'they are...show more content...
One of the police officers came up to me introduced himself, asked me my name and started, "Have
you ever seen this driver before? On the road or around town?" I quickly responded, "No, I have not

is considered the town drunk and does not currently have a valid license due to drinking and
driving". He asked me some questions and asked me to fill out an incident report. Still shaken up by
the whole incident I gladly accepted. The officer ended our conversation. "Thank you so much for
your time, Kevin. We really appreciate it."
The only thought running through my head on my way home was how much I had not
appreciated my wife and children. To witness something of that nature makes one conscientious
about what you have and how quickly it could vanish. I vowed after that day to speak out against
drinking and driving and the terrible outcomes that can transpire from something that some do
not view as a "big deal". It is apparent that better ways have to be found for getting drunk drivers off
the road. I encourage anyone to be responsible for their lives and others by agreeing to never drink
and drive again, and to also aid your family and friends in doing so. Have a designated driver each
night or call a cab. Everyone is capable of saving a

Examples Of Prescriptive Grammar
Grammar is a set of language rules and system. There are various types of grammar. Descriptive
grammar is the rules that English speakers follow. Whereas, prescriptive grammar is the textbook
rules in order to write and speak correctly. For example, the sentence I didn't go nowhere. is correct
in descriptive grammar but incorrect in prescriptive grammar. "The part of the grammar that
concerns the structure of phrases and sentences is called syntax. Rules of grammar determine how
morphemes and words can combine to express a specific meaning" (Fromkin, & Rodman, 1998).
Grammaticality is based on specific patterns determined by the syntactic rules. The rules are acquired

In other word, Do support doesn't occur in negative statements and questions if the affirmative
statement already has an auxiliary verb such as be/do/have or can/could/may/might/must/shall
/should/will/would. Examples are as follows.
+ You are living here. (pronoun/ auxiliary/ verb/ adverb)
Q Are you living here?
_ Aren't you living here? / Are you not living here?
Are in the first affirmative statement is an auxiliary verb. Therefore, do support doesn't occur in
questions and negative statements. Although be/do/have usually function as auxiliaries, they can
also work as main verbs in sentences (Teschner, & Evans, 1993). When be functions as a main
verb it never allows Do support. However, both do and have require Do support when working as a
main verb. A wh–word can function either as the subject in its wh/co question or the object in it
(Teschner, & Evans, 1993). If wh–words are objects, the words move to the front of the sentence,
which is called wh–fronting. Whereas, wh–words are subjects, the wh–movement doesn't occur
because someone as a subject already appears at the front.
Compare:

TYPES OF DESCRIPTIVE RESEARCH 1. Descriptive–survey – "This approach is appropriate
wherever the object of any class varies among themselves and one is interested in knowing the extent

made to a certain the normal or typical condition or practice, or compare local test results with a
state or national norm" (Good and Scates, 1972)

relating to existing conditions. This is a technique of a quantitative description which determines the

I was in my room listening to music. My room would normally have a very serene feeling to it.
My room had a beautiful dream catcher hanging on the wall and there was also a very big

group of girls. They spend the rest of the evening throwing dirty looks at the boys, none of whom
seem to care. Spinning faster and faster, the waltzer's occupants scream hysterically. "The louder
you scream, the faster we go," an impersonal voice claims on the intercom. As the ride explodes
with noise, the operator yawns and throws a lever. Outside his soundproof hut the ride
accelerates, then, climax over, it slows and stops. The controller stumbles out of the box and lets
the flushed people off of the ride. Some go straight to the back of the queue, others teeter off,
stumbling over their own feet. Gritting his teeth, a man in the car park presses the accelerator to
the floor, but to no avail. The grass is unrecognisable under all of the mud that has been churned
up by the cars that have been coming and going all day. His face reddens as the wheels spin,
spraying mud on to a shiny red Ferrari that someone was unsuspecting enough to bring. People are
pointing and laughing and the owner of the Ferrari is shouting. Finally, someone is helpful
enough to push him on his way and he leaves at top speed, without even bothering to say thank
you. On the rollercoaster, a young girl screams, while her older brother looks almost ready to fall
asleep. Her best friend in the seat behind is looking slightly green and is very much ready to go
home. The little girl whoops even louder

Descriptive Essay Party
A couple of days before Thanksgiving break, my cousin, whose name is Jae, suggested to me that
there was a party a close friend of hers was throwing. I reluctantly agreed since I had to write
about my experience of a party for my essay. Fast forward to the day of the party, around 7 in the
afternoon, my cousin drove us to her friend's house. What I saw really made me nervous because
I am socially awkward person. If it's a new place with new people, I tend to have sweaty hands,
my heart beats fast, and sometimes I stutter badly. I digress back to the subject, in front of us was
a huge gathering of people and cars parked on both sides of the street leading up to a somewhat
big light blue house. Seeing this I told Jae that I didn't know these many people would be here,
otherwise, I most likely wouldn't have gone. She assured me that it would be fine and calmed me
a bit before we got out of her car and walked through the thick crowd of young adults. Then as my
cousin and I entered the unusually small doorway of the house. We observed our surroundings,
me trying to find a more secluded spot, and I'd assumed Jae was looking the host of this larger
than a necessary house party. I stayed close to my cousin as we weaved in and out of groups of
people. She was speaking to the people that she knew at the party and tried to introduce me to them,
but since I'm not much of a big conversationalist, the discussions mostly just ended in a few
awkward words. It left me a little embarrassed

  • 1. Descriptive Essay Woods The Woods I don't know why we thought it was such a great idea to go to the woods on a rainy day. What were we thinking? I thought 'hey maybe we can have an adventure and explore around those woods we always pass by.' What a horrible mistake, but I wasn't the only one who thought that was the best idea ever at the time. It was a gloomy day, the dusty clouds taking up space from the grey sky, laying down on my comfy bed as I'm wrapped around with my blanket, I decided to check on my phone. "Hey, want to hang out today?" "Sure" "What should we do?" "Let's go to the woods that's near your house" "That sounds like a wonderful idea!" I quickly got up and put on some shorts and a tank top. I looked around my room and finally found my black shoes and decided to bring an umbrella too just in case it rain hard. I was so excited to go explore and take beautiful pictures at the woods. I grab my bag and told my dad I was ready to leave to my friend's house, I remember the car ride felt like it took forever. Finally, I arrive at her house, I knock on her door and as usual her Russian terrier starts to bark. "Taylor shut up or go outside!" I could just hear her screaming at the dog to calm down. The door opened slowly and there she was, I could tell she was also excited to go and explore around just like me. "Hey Lirio, come inside." "Are you ready to have an adventure" with such happiness on my Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Descriptive Essay On Imagine A Cloud Ever since I was young, I have had a passion for reading and writing. It is just something that has always come easily to me. So when eleven–year–old me walked through the dimly lit hallways of Johnsonville Elementary School, into a strange classroom, and sat in my boxed–in–desk and was told that I was writing a descriptive essay, I was extremely excited. It would be the first time that I had ever written a descriptive–based paper. Nevertheless, it was a newly–introduced challenge, and I was ready to take it on. "Okay class", said the plump teacher standing in the front of the room, "I have been informed that each of you needs to write an essay for the state." "I hope it is about monsters and astronauts!", the student beside me said....show more content... "I then sat down in my seat and felt the cotton–lined cushions. They were the softest things that I had ever felt and I truly would never forget them", I added. I then continued, "However, my experience was interrupted by a loud tra–". Again, I didn't like that. "There must be a better word than loud.", I thought, "What is it though?" I went through every possible word before I finally found the word that I liked. "However, my experience was interrupted by a screaming whistle. The train was getting ready to move and I needed to prepare myself for it" "That sounds a lot better!", I said to myself. I kept writing. "I then felt the train shift forwards and we started going. I looked out of the window and saw the fluffy, Grey clouds of smoke rise above us." "Just like she told us." I wrote and smiled. "Not long after, I heard three bold knocks on the door of the train car that I was in.", I wrote, "It was a man wearing a nicely tailored suit asking if I wanted some sweets. Of course, I couldn't resist and took them up in a heartbeat." I paused for a few moments, and continued "He ended up giving me some chocolate cupcakes with the most delicious frosting that I have ever had." I started to lick my lips from just thinking about it. "When I finished the last one, I looked out the window and saw the train station. Just as quick as I had gotten on, the train arrived at its destination.", I concluded my paper and read it over a thousand times. When I Get more content on HelpWriting.net

The sun is starting to drag itself lower, dimming the landscape, leaving a majestic orange on the horizon. The towering structures above leave enormous shadows on the people below. Car horns ring and sirens pulse, as the people make haste towards there destinations, rushing aggressively as if though it is a race. The end of the work day has just began. The craze is unique from anywhere else. An endless flow of people and vehicles seem to liter the area. A man can be seen making his way towards a small parking lot. Two enormous windows are on the front of the house, with fine, white curtains that can be seen hanging from them on the other side. On the left side of a house there is a large chimney, which gives the house a traditional look with it's brown and red bricks. In the front yard of the house there is a smooth, clean concrete walkway to the front door, surrounded by many bushes, and flowers; trimmed perfectly. This house is well kept, and it stands out as a beauty in the neighborhood. The man walks up his paved walkway, and into the house through a large white door, with four small windows on it, and a cross like pattern beneath them. The doors gives of the look as if it is an entryway to heaven. The house is peaceful. Only the birds chirping in the trees can be heard. And as the man enters his house excited children raise there voices, "Daddy Daddy!". This family man is Get more content on HelpWriting.net

It provides us with all kinds of pleasure. Other things that I also love about spring are those smells that are widespread in nature. The air is fresh and full of pleasant aromas of different flowers. When I am walking in the fields or any other place during spring time, my noses catch a mixture of smells that really increases my strong love for nature. I will now say I am absolutely calm when I am listening, feeling, smelling, and looking at the spring around me. Spring is my favourite season, and nature when it is spring is relaxing and comfortable. The earth wears a green dress. Again it comes to life. Great descriptive essays achieve this affect not through facts and statistics but by using detailed observations and descriptions. What do you want to describe? As you get started on your descriptive essay, it's important for you to identify exactly what you want to describe. • 7. Descriptive Essay : Words, Words Words? What is the meaning of words? Through someone's aspect, it could be considered as the most efficient communicating tool of human being. On the other hand, some people may treat it as an irreplaceable expression of their emotion. Objectively speaking, "words" could definitely be concluded in both ways above, but in my opinion, using words is a privilege and honor. I use words to gain knowledge and words give me all kinds of possibilities of understanding new stuff when I intend to enhance my personal abilities. –When do you like words; when not? Mostly, words represents simple language communication and stand for a carrier of people's emotion. For example, I felt very upset and frustrated when I got a few deny letters from some universities I applied in the last year of my high school. During that time, every single word from these letters turned to be sharp and dreadful. However, when I have a chat with my old friends, I usually enjoy every moment of texting and also enjoy every word I type during those chats. In general, whether I like or dislike some certain words, it is not only depends on words itself, but also depends on the words–using in its different situations. –What's easy; what's not? Personally, I think poems and some traditional literatures are very hard for me. In contrast, I feel easy when I read novels and scientific papers. –Who are you as a reader, writer, thinker, speaker, listener? – If you're lucky enough to think, read, hear, write in Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. The Importance Of Descriptive Writing The use of descriptive writing is often found in works of fiction, giving the reader the opportunity to visualize the world that the author wants them to see. Descriptive writing becomes much more valuable, however, when it is used in non–fiction works that may be used to survive. The ability to precisely describe plants, animals, and the environment can be the difference between life and death. This was indeed the case with the journals of the early explorers Meriwether Lewis, William Clark, and other party members as they explored North America in the early 1800s. The accounts produced by members of the expedition party, both written and drawn, would eventually lead to the expansion of the United States by providing accurate and...show more content... The men on this journey were all healthy young men excited about a paid adventure. One must consider the exertion the expedition party faced and be able to compare the party's progress against one's own ability. If the men grew tired over a stretch of land, then the later traveler must be aware of their own capability and accept their limitations when considering the explorer's timeframe and the amount of ground covered. After an accident with a canoe, which occurred on the 6th of August 1805, had left Whitehouse and Clark injured Lewis wrote, "Whitehouse is in much pain this evening with the injury one of his legs sustained from the canoe today at the time it upset and swing over him. Capt Clarks ankle is also very painfull [sic] to him. We should have given the party a days [sic] rest some where [sic] near this place". Since the injuries occurred, the party continued to walk for at least 10 miles before setting up camp. This was an impressive venture, considering Whitehouse could have died had the water been any shallower. The men's ability to continue their journey despite injuries was remarkable and not easily replicated. A later traveler should recognize this feat and should not compare himself to the accomplishment of the expedition party. Lewis had even wanted to stop the party to give the injured men at least a day's rest, but they persevered. Also, the fact that members of the party were injured, was not necessary to include. • 10. Descriptive Essay I'm going to describe a girl for you, try to keep up. Long light brown hair, vintage classy glasses, one lonely dimple on the lower part of her mouth, soft pale skin, stone cold stare, and a dry sense of humor. Can you picture her? Well if you can, then you've basically just met me. I usually try to force a smile, wait no scratch that– I used to try to force a smile. Now I'm not saying this so that you can view me as unhappy or negative, but in all fairness who has a smile as their natural way of expression. By all means, my personality, interests, and hobbies are the fundamental building blocks to the life I choose to live. Is it too cliche to say that I am a teenage girl with big insecurities, an addiction with comparing myself to others, and deepening trust issues? Well if it is, then add being cliche to the list. I guess you can say my insecurities originate from the fact that my biggest critic is my own mother. From the earliest years of elementary up till this present day, it was either my wardrobe, my posture, or my way of speaking that gained the attention of my mother's judgmental eye. Eventually, the criticism started to slip out of my own mouth, and that's when I began to compare myself to others. I'm not oblivious to how unhealthy this makes me, but when I am told that I need to be better (basically my entire life), it's easy to fall into unhealthy habits. Speaking of unhealthy habits, having trust issues seems to be my main one. As I grew older and entered the Get more content on HelpWriting.net

The first thing you see are the brilliant fall colors (of course, red, orange, yellow, and brown, but also some purple mixed in), then you see the snow–topped San Christo mountains in the background with the blue sky above them. • 12. Descriptive Writing Essay The Class Everyone Dreads "Is EN100 a useful class to take?," this was a question I got asked by a junior at my school. They were looking for classes to take next year; I told them that it was an abundant amount of writing, but it was a great class to take. I went on to explain to them, that taking it in high school would be easier and cheaper than in college. Beginning to explain to them that it helped me grow as a writer and helped improve my English vocabulary, I realized it helped a whole lot. Throughout the first semester of school, we had to write essays over four different topics. These included informative, observation, reflection, and descriptive essays. I told them about my experiences while writing with these certain types of essays. This is what I said: The first essay we wrote was the descriptive writing style. I wrote an essay called, "Burger King's Crusty Castle". In this essay, I wrote about the filth inside of the restaurant. Throughout this essay I got better with describing every little detail in the story. I started off by saying, "The tea urns (used to keep all of the freshly made tea in) smell like something had crawled in them and died" ("Burger King's Crusty Castle"1). I eventually changed it to say, "The tea urns (used to keep all of the freshly made tea in) smell like a skunk that has just been ran over" ("Burger King's Crusty Castle"11). I added detail to the sentence to make it sound more fluent and to make you feel as if you could smell it. It Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Three Descriptive Research Methods Essay One of of three methods used for descriptive research is the case study. The case study method is the oldest form of research used in psychology today. To help you better understand what case studies are I would recommend you think of an individual person case. Case study is when someone studies one person to explain things that happen for all of us. Basically applying the outcome to all people ; one representing all. Case studies will describe your behavior. In present day we have noticed that although the individual cases may be accurate, it only applies to that one person. There will always be a conflict of interest because what may happen to one person does not necessarily happen to the next. For example you may say that after...show more content... This type of research gathers information from a large group of people. It will be not go into depth as much as the case study might and involves many cases. As an example think of making you own survey and distributing it out to various amounts of people, gathering the information and conducting you hypothesis. We are constantly asked to participate in surveys whether its an internet advertisement or a class handout from the college you attend. When asking you question you have to be careful as to how you word the question. The words you choose may influence a participant to lean toward a certain side. You may sound biased toward one issue which will effect you survey and hypothesis. Using random sampling allows researcher to have a fair representation of the subjects under study. Every person has an equal chance of participating. I would use this method with very larger groups of people. Ex. school. The last from of research would be naturalistic observation. Basically watching and recording the behavior of different subjects in the natural environment.Much of the reality shows today could be considered a form of naturalistic observation. Pending on how much the program actually interferes with the subject , they allow for an interesting hypothesis. This research will describe the behavior of an subject. Now that we have the information from the research we can evaluate the differences and similarities. When the research reveals that one Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Descriptive Essay Descriptive Essay It was a seemingly beautiful day as I drove on a joy ride in my bright blue sports car, with the wind in my hair. This is an everyday activity for me. My friends would mock me saying, "You spend more money on gas than you make working." I laughed to myself at the thought of jokes amongst my friends. That happiness was soon halted. As I continued driving, I saw a car coming rapidly around the curve. The car did not show any signs of slowing down as it headed towards the intersection. The light turned yellow and then quickly red. Another object caught my eye that made me fear what was going to happen next. A young couple started crossing the street wearing fancy attire. The first thought that came to mind was, 'they are...show more content... One of the police officers came up to me introduced himself, asked me my name and started, "Have you ever seen this driver before? On the road or around town?" I quickly responded, "No, I have not officer." He continued, "I learned from the call back to the station that the driver, David Chrisenger, is considered the town drunk and does not currently have a valid license due to drinking and driving". He asked me some questions and asked me to fill out an incident report. Still shaken up by the whole incident I gladly accepted. The officer ended our conversation. "Thank you so much for your time, Kevin. We really appreciate it." The only thought running through my head on my way home was how much I had not appreciated my wife and children. To witness something of that nature makes one conscientious about what you have and how quickly it could vanish. I vowed after that day to speak out against drinking and driving and the terrible outcomes that can transpire from something that some do not view as a "big deal". It is apparent that better ways have to be found for getting drunk drivers off the road. I encourage anyone to be responsible for their lives and others by agreeing to never drink and drive again, and to also aid your family and friends in doing so. Have a designated driver each night or call a cab. Everyone is capable of saving a Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 17. Examples Of Prescriptive Grammar Grammar is a set of language rules and system. There are various types of grammar. Descriptive grammar is the rules that English speakers follow. Whereas, prescriptive grammar is the textbook rules in order to write and speak correctly. For example, the sentence I didn't go nowhere. is correct in descriptive grammar but incorrect in prescriptive grammar. "The part of the grammar that concerns the structure of phrases and sentences is called syntax. Rules of grammar determine how morphemes and words can combine to express a specific meaning" (Fromkin, & Rodman, 1998). Grammaticality is based on specific patterns determined by the syntactic rules. The rules are acquired or constructed unconsciously as children (Fromkin, & Rodman, 1998)....show more content... In other word, Do support doesn't occur in negative statements and questions if the affirmative statement already has an auxiliary verb such as be/do/have or can/could/may/might/must/shall /should/will/would. Examples are as follows. + You are living here. (pronoun/ auxiliary/ verb/ adverb) Q Are you living here? _ Aren't you living here? / Are you not living here? Are in the first affirmative statement is an auxiliary verb. Therefore, do support doesn't occur in questions and negative statements. Although be/do/have usually function as auxiliaries, they can also work as main verbs in sentences (Teschner, & Evans, 1993). When be functions as a main verb it never allows Do support. However, both do and have require Do support when working as a main verb. A wh–word can function either as the subject in its wh/co question or the object in it (Teschner, & Evans, 1993). If wh–words are objects, the words move to the front of the sentence, which is called wh–fronting. Whereas, wh–words are subjects, the wh–movement doesn't occur because someone as a subject already appears at the front. Compare: Who did he call? (who functions as an object) Who called him? (Good and Scates, 1972) Example: The Job–Related Problems and Performance of Staff Nurses in Private and Government Hospitals in Iloilo. 2. • 21. Descriptive Personal Experience Essay I was in my room listening to music. My room would normally have a very serene feeling to it. My room had a beautiful dream catcher hanging on the wall and there was also a very big window that made it possible for me to see the moon every night. I always felt very relaxed in my room, but that day I could hear the screaming and arguing between my mom and my dad in the background. It was horrible. I could feel my eyes starting to water because I hated hearing my parents fight. The fighting and arguing continued for days. On one evening I could hear the voices of my parents arguing with my brothers. I was in my room as always and I started to feel room getting really hot. The noises and everything else around me made me feel very...show more content... "I haven 't been feeling so great lately",I said in a soft tone. My mom glanced at me with a very puzzled expression on her face. "What do you mean? Are you sick?", she asked with confusion in her voice. "No, I mean I don't know I just haven 't been feeling too great emotionally i guess.", I responded in a very little voice because I thought that maybe she would think that I was crazy. Once I said that my mom stopped folding all of the laundry. "Since when?", my mom asked with a very surprised tone. "Maybe like 3 months.", I responded. "What! Three months why didn't you tell me". " I didn't tell you because I thought you wouldn't understand.", I said in a tone that almost sounded annoyed, which I think I might have been. " I think you should go to the doctor.", she told me. I didn't want to go to the doctor, but I knew that it would most likely help me. A couple days later I went to the doctor and he just asked me a bunch of questions. One of the questions was, what did it feel like to have an anxiety attack. That was probably one of the hardest questions i had ever had to answer. I couldn 't find the right words to describe how it felt. As he kept asking me questions he would write things down. I couldn't help but wonder what he was writing down. I would keep having the thought that maybe he was writing down all of the bad things. After the doctor stopped talking to me he started to talk to my mom about ways to help Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Outside his soundproof hut the ride accelerates, then, climax over, it slows and stops. The controller stumbles out of the box and lets the flushed people off of the ride. Finally, someone is helpful enough to push him on his way and he leaves at top speed, without even bothering to say thank you. • 23. Descriptive Essay Party A couple of days before Thanksgiving break, my cousin, whose name is Jae, suggested to me that there was a party a close friend of hers was throwing. I reluctantly agreed since I had to write about my experience of a party for my essay. Fast forward to the day of the party, around 7 in the afternoon, my cousin drove us to her friend's house. What I saw really made me nervous because I am socially awkward person. If it's a new place with new people, I tend to have sweaty hands, my heart beats fast, and sometimes I stutter badly. I digress back to the subject, in front of us was a huge gathering of people and cars parked on both sides of the street leading up to a somewhat big light blue house. Seeing this I told Jae that I didn't know these many people would be here, otherwise, I most likely wouldn't have gone. She assured me that it would be fine and calmed me a bit before we got out of her car and walked through the thick crowd of young adults. Then as my cousin and I entered the unusually small doorway of the house. We observed our surroundings, me trying to find a more secluded spot, and I'd assumed Jae was looking the host of this larger than a necessary house party. I stayed close to my cousin as we weaved in and out of groups of people. She was speaking to the people that she knew at the party and tried to introduce me to them, but since I'm not much of a big conversationalist, the discussions mostly just ended in a few awkward words. It left me a little embarrassed Get more content on HelpWriting.net
