Organized crime is destructive to all countries it effects. In terms of the United States, it is plagued
by human trafficking, drug trafficking, and weapons trafficking. One of the most harmful organized
crimes is drug trafficking. What makes drug trafficking organized is the system of production to
distribution. Drug trafficking organizations have a hierarchy of power from the kingpins to the
couriers. Drug also has political influence they are able to bribe and blackmail politicians.

Some immigrants are even recruited, they do this because drug smugglers fund their way into the
United States. So many people are desperate to get out of Mexico they risk their freedom. In recent
news, their was also an American man who used a drone to smuggle drugs over from Mexico to
California. He was carrying fifty–thousand dollars' worth of cocaine. Although I do believe the
border should be protected, I don't agree building a wall will stop drug trafficking from Mexico.
Before the transportation of narcotic there is an extensive production process. For example,
cocaine production begins in the forest of Colombia. Colombia produces over half the world's
cocaine. They pay farmers to produce the cocoa leaf and transform it into a paste then a powder.
Growing cocaine is just as risky as smuggling it. To combat the growth of the cocoa leaf, Colombian
drug enforcement destroy the cocoa farms. They light farms on fire to deter famers from growing it.
Law enforcement is not the only danger in drug trafficking. Drug cartels leaders are brutal, and
enforce their rule through murder. For example, if people don't want to participate in they just
remove the people putting fear in the entire community.

The international drug trade from Latin American states is having an impact on a global scale. The
trafficking of drugs along with corruptness and murder is an international conflict that is being
fought daily. There are many aspects of the drug war from Mexico and other Latin American states
which have effects on United States policy as well as policies from other countries that participate in

The communities were not only in urban populations, there were reports from rural Sheriff
Departments of gang that would publicly acknowledge themselves. This is a very concerning truth
to people who live in rural areas, the spread of gangs brings drugs and violence to once safe

Drug trafficking is where it is the selling of illegal drugs all over the world. The penalties are
results in first degree felony, so for Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman's is the world's most powerful
drug trafficker is very dangerous. He's been arrested two times and escaped once in 2001 and
recently on July 11, 2015. El Chapo got out by escaping through a tunnel in his shower stall since
that's the only area where there is no camera shot to give him some privacy; however "as we all
know, it actually provided an advantage, a blind spot, where Guzman was able to go through the
floor and out to freedom." (NPR.org) El Chapo's escape was not a one man plan. "Seven people who

Drug trafficking has been a major issue not only in this country but across the world.
Drug trafficking has a major foothold in South America, more specifically Mexico and Colum– bia.
Both these countries have given birth to some of the most notorious "Cartels" the world has ever
seen. From Pablo Escobar to Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, these are just some of the infa– mous
men who have established drug trafficking into the multi–billion dollar business it has be– come
today.

"Drug Trafficking and
Organized Crime in the Americas", an article written by Bruce Bagley has opened my eyes to these
trends and patterns that drug trafficking has undergone. The article splits the trends and/or patterns
into eight key elements. Not to delve too deep into all 8, to summarize some, the eight keys go from
the increased globalization of drug consumption all the way to the growth in sup– port for harm
reduction, decriminalization and legalization policy alternatives (legalization de– bate) (Bagley,
2015, p.1). This article does a great job of depicting all eight keys in equal terms of importance to
the drug trafficking evolution. Covering all the countries in South America, this article gives great
information for each one and their own involvement in the drug trafficking world. It even goes as
far as to detail certain individuals who were more or less single handily the reason for their
countries drug trafficking power to flourish. For example this journal article touches on "El Chapo"
and his involvement in Mexicos rise to drug trafficking prominence. An– other great part of this
article that adds more wondrous information to my topic is the chart on page 19, which depicts the
Proliferation of Mexican Cartels from 2006–2010. This chart depicts the number of cartels doubling
in terms of numbers in only 4 short years. "The cartels go from just 6 in 2006 to 12 in 2010"
