Are People Likely To Protect Others?
Many people wonder why they are left alone and without a purpose, but the solution has always
been in plain sight; it is always in your best interest to aid others. If you are too focused on
yourself and act as if you are the only one that matters, who would help you when you wouldn't
help anyone? The reasons why it would be wise to protect others is shown throughout history and
many people's lives, proven true time and time again. Standing up to injustices happening to a
person can form a strong trust between you and that person, even if they are someone you never
have met before. Although it is implied by parents or society that as an individual you should
only concern yourself with problems that pertain to you, it is crucial that you recognize the
struggles of others because of the various benefits it can provide for you. While many people
believe trying to protect others will produce negativity, the actuality is that doing this allures
benefits to your happiness which in turn improves your overall mental state. What I mean by
mental state is how you are feeling at a certain time and whether you are thinking about a situation
negatively or positively. This is where happiness plays a major role towards your state of mind, as
proven by a study ran by a group of sociologists. They claimed that people who described
themselves as, "very happy" volunteered in helping others or participating in community service for
5.8 hours a month. This study consisted of 2000 people

Ways to Help Others
Helping others is one of the most important things one can do in today's time I believe in helping
those that I love and care about. Even people I don't really know need help and I'm willing to help
them in any way that I can. It makes my day knowing that I've helped someone and put a smile on
both of our faces. I feel good knowing I can actually say that I made a difference in someone's life
besides mine. There are plenty of ways to help people out. You can help someone out mentally,
physically, emotionally and financially. For example, one way to help others out is by doing it
financially. Financially is one of the biggest ways today to help someone. There are many
organizations to help families out in the world that need money for a family member that has cancer,
a diseases or even a family member they have lost. These are the most helpful ways finically. It
makes the families fell so much more relieved that they have help and don't have to struggle on
how they're going to pay for things such as transportation, treatments, and all the extra bills they
have to put money towards. Other ways to help out is emotionally and mentally. People go
through stuff every day and feel like they have no one to run to. Being there for someone
emotionally and mentally is one of the best things you can do. Not only is it one of the best things
you could do it can also be one of the hardest things to deal with. It's one of the most privileged
ways to help someone; they have to

Altruism: Why Do People Help Others?
After 70 years, the world is still transfixed by the heroism of Miep Gies, who risked her life to help
Frank's family and other families from the Nazis, providing them with food and other necessities.
Many have argued that altruism (selfless act to increase someone's welfare without regard to one's
self–interest) does not exist because no one can explain the Holocausts, wars and terrorist attack.
But few people have asked why do people help others? Why would Miep Gies risk imprisonment,
torture and even death to save others' lives? (Batson 2014). While it is clear that raising the question
of the existence of altruism opens a Pandora box of complicated issues, answering the question is
fundamental to understand human nature, the role of people...show more content...
It is indicated that the act of giving can activate the area of the brain associated with positive
emotions to overcome the chronic stress that affects a person's emotion (depression and anger),
thinking (apathy and hopelessness) and behaviour (insomnia and addiction) (Post 2005). In a study
of 846 older couples, participants were interviewed about stressful events they had experienced and
the amount of helping provided to a relative or neighbour. After adjusting factors including initial
health, personality, income, age and gender, researchers found that exposing to stressful events
increased mortality over the next 5 years among people who provided no emotional or instrumental
support (Brown et al. 2003). This is because helping others increase positive feelings in response to
daily stress, in turn, it speeds the recovery of some diseases such as the cardiovascular from the
aftereffects of negative emotions (Brown et al.

Why Do People Help Others? Essay
To discuss why people help others we must consider whether people are by nature selfless or selfish.
The dominant view today in psychology is of universal egoism; that we are fundamentally selfish,
and that altruism (helping motivated by the wish to benefit another person) an impossibility. One
form of universal egoism is Piliavin et al's "arousal: cost–reward" model, whereby faced
with a potential helping situation we weigh the probable costs and rewards of alternative courses of
action, then arrive at a decision which produces the best outcome for ourselves.Darley and Batson
(1973) conducted an experiment into the effect of the cost time in the decision to offer help. They
found that 63% of students with plenty of time to get...show more content...
Piliavin found that there is evidence of racism occurring in our decisions to help when he found
that blacks were much more likely to help a black drunk, and whites a white drunk. This suggests
that we are less likely to help those with the least genes in common with us.Chagnon & Bugos
(1979), in an analysis of fighting in Southern Venezuela, found that the likelihood of a person
helping another was strongly correlated with their genetic relatedness to the person. However, how
do we account for cases of altruism on the part of animals who are not related?
This could be explained by the fact that all members of a species have an element of shared genes
even if not at all closely related. Trivers (1971), however, proposed the principle of delayed
reciprocal altruism, whereby animals return favours, therefore helpful behaviour is worthwhile
because it is likely to be returned. For example, Packer (1977) observed that male baboons which
assisted another male in courting were more likely to receive this help in return. Batson (1987), in
contradiction with universal egoism proposed the "empathy–altruism" hypothesis. He
saw helping as the result of feeling empathy (experiencing another's emotions). By experimentally
manipulating the degree to which his subjects experienced empathy or personal distress in a
potential helping situation Batson showed that empathetically aroused

Christian Coaching : Helping Others
For those that are feeling stuck in their lives, coaching has become a way to help people focus on
what they need to do. It is no longer enough to settle for where you may end up in life. There are
some people that choose to move from their current state of comfort towards something that is more
self– fulfilling in nature. By taking effective coaching philosophies and applying them in a
God–centered fashion, Collins lays out a plan to help people find their way to God's vision for their
lives. This text serves as an introduction to the discipline of life coaching with a Christian aspect for
those who choose to coach others through life and situations with God at the center. This text is not
just beneficial for Christians but for...show more content...
The main key point taking from this section is that coaching is a partnership, "it involves the active
and collaborating participation of both the coach and the client" (Collins, 2009, p.84). The process
of building a partnership includes both the client and coach understanding what coaching is and
what it is not.
What is does include is both parties knowing how to listen to what is being said. Collins (2009)
makes sure to mention that it is not enough to just listen, but one has to listen attentively meaning
informally, actively, and intuitively and also details some barriers to listening that could hinder the
coaching process. The acronyms HEAR is used to help the coach understand what he or she should
be listening for.
Collins (2009) introduces a four part coaching road map that includes awareness or where we are,
vision or where we want to be, obstacles or what gets in the way, and strategy and action or how do
we get there, that is centered on Jesus that can help a client stay the course during their journey
(Collins, 2009). By following this model, the coach can help the client focus on doing things
differently in order to get different results. It is this transformation that Collins (2009) sees as "the
ultimate goal of Christian coaching" (Collins, 2009, p.127).
The next three sections focus specifically on the coaching road map and how to assess the client in
their progress.

Definition Essay On Helping
Being Helpful in Different ways: A Definition Essay "You do not need a reason to help someone."
("Media Web Apps," n.d.). Helping is the reaction that comes from heart not because of self–interest.
Some people have temperament to be helpful, or it can be nurtured from parents. When someone
needs help in any way, people offer their hand without thinking. Helping is caring about yourself
and caring about others. Helping is not being conceited and not seeing others lower than you
when you help them. Helping is when someone lends a hand without thinking and not waiting for
anything in return. Helping is the action which can effectively change people's lives by giving
money, encouraging people and expecting results in the future. People may not be able to
change the world, but they may change a person's life by help his/her. Helping people can be
shown in many ways such as giving money. For example, when a friend has a financial problem,
and he/she can not overcome it, people can give money to help him/her. In addition, helping is to
make life easier for someone else. Another way to show helping by giving money is donating.
Many people around the world live in poverty which make life difficult for them. People can donate
and help poor people to change their lives to...show more content...
People on earth tend to help each other and give positive energy. Furthermore, the reason that
people have a best friend in their lives is because he/she always gives positives energy and helps
you difficult situation. Friends can help each other in simple way. For instance, when a friend has
a job interview, people can simply play a music which can help his/her to get ride the stress, so he
/she might do better in his/her interview. Moreover, volunteering help others a lot in different ways.
Helpful people like to help other, so they usually volunteer which encourage others to be better and

Personal Narrative– Helping Others
Declining standards of living and continuing exportation of our jobs have resulted in rising stress
levels for all Americans. This results in negative effects on our well being– mentally, physically and
emotionally. Some people seek to reduce stress levels by using alcohol and drugs. Some overwork
themselves, resulting in mental breakdowns. The pharmaceutical giants pocket billions of dollars a
year from sales of tranquillisers, anti–depressants, barbiturates, amphetamines, and other
psychoactive medications.
We know we must learn to control stress in safer, saner, and healthier ways. So we read about Yoga
or Aromatherapy, or maybeFeng Shui. We think about doing stress–management courses....show

Now we can unite –– across borders, oceans, continents – and work together in ways that were not
possible before.
How often do we hear about some injustice on the other side of the globe and think, "That's awful.
Something should be done about that." And then we tell ourselves, "Well, there's nothing I can do
about it. I'm just an ordinary Joe Soap. I don't have any power over these things."
But we do! The power is in our fingers.
Consider, just for one moment:
No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.
Article 5 – Universal Declaration of Human Rights
Torture is abhorrent. Torture is illegal. Yet torture is inflicted on men, women and children in well
over half the countries of the world.
Amnesty International
Amnesty International (www.amnesty.org) is a worldwide campaigning movement that works to
promote all the human rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Nowadays,
one can subscribe to an Amnesty list (www.stoptorture.org), occasionally receive an "urgent action"
request email, click on a web address and sign an online petition on behalf of someone at risk. If
you wish, you can then follow up with a more detailed letter (snail mail or often email) to the
Government or rulers of the country involved. Amnesty provides all

Friendship Essay: Helping a Friend in Need
It is very sad to see a friend or relative suffering or in need, especially when they pretend that
everything is all right. It is a delicate situation when approaching someone in this predicament, as
often a person's pride stands in the way of reaching out for comfort. How to offer your help to an
independent friend or relative in this position requires a bit of clever manipulation and a not–so–
obvious plan in order to help.
If the problem at hand is a financial matter, the first response would be to offer them a loan. On the
other hand, most people would be embarrassed to admit to this, and will perhaps be offended at the
offer. However, instead of outright offering them money, trading a service in return for payment
would not seem as...show more content...
This will certainly make them feel better and will be helping them out at the same time.
Friends or relatives who have children may experience times when they cannot afford to give
them the luxuries of toys, games or name brand clothing. At the same time, while most children
do not understand hard times, these friends or relatives hurt inside because of this. It would
probably be insulting to them if you bought a bag of toys, a new wardrobe for the kids or a slew
of games and delivered these items in order to help. Overall, there is a way to present such items
in a fashion that will not seem like charity. While honesty is the best policy, lending a helping
hand when we are in a position to do so often takes precedence. Telling our life long friend or
family member that our children received clothing as a gift, but it did not fit, or perhaps received a
duplicate toy or game and offering it to their children is a way to help in times of despair.
Many times when family or friends decide to meet or get together to go out for dinner, drinks, or
even to a movie, we take for granite the expense of these excursions and expect that everyone can
participate. On the contrary, when a friend or relative bows out, the reason why they decline
becomes obvious. Here again, little white lies come in to play, and compassion takes over.
Mentioning to this friend or relative that you

Serving God, Serving Others
Serving God, Serving others
Many people don't understand how important serving is. I have found that at some schools, serving
is important and is required to graduate. Service is the action of helping or doing work for
someone. Serving can help others learn more about the world and help them position into a mature
adult. Although service is required sometimes, people should serve by choice. Service hours are
designed to help students grow in a relationship with God as well as discovering new ways to serve
and help others.
At McNicholas High School, forty service hours are required to graduate. McNick believes that
students should serve God while serving others. Serving is an essential part of Mcnicks history.
Students say that serving left them with an impact of knowledge in what they want to do with their
life. On mcnicks website, they have a list of approved agencies for students to choose from. The
agencies are categorized by: caring for children, feeding those who are hungry, caring for people
with disabilities, caring for those who are sick, visiting with our elders, providing clothing, providing
shelter, caring for animals, and caring for the earth. When serving, some agencies require an age
minimum. Students at Mcnick are offered several different options to serve. Serving different places
help the students decided upon their future. (mcnick)
Service club is an essential club that is available to all who sign up. Of all the clubs, service club is
the most active.

The Importance of Helping Others
One time I had to help my friend Louie. We had been at my house and he forgot to turn his lights
off in his old pickup. He went to start it and it would not turn over, he realized that he left his
lights on. I brought my pickup over to try and jump start his pickup. I wasted a quarter tank of gas
revving up my truck to try to provide more power. At this point we gave up, we then realized that
we could roll start his pickup. I pulled his truck with my truck up the bump to my sloped driveway.
He got rolling, popped the clutch, and off he went.
Being able to help someone is a great advantage in life. I love helping people and to be able to
help my friend in his moment of need is a great pleasure in my life. When he got that truck going it

BeoWulf is placed on the spectrum somewhere toward the top between robin hood and man in the
water because he was very courageous and strong but he did not give the ultimate gift like man in
the water but he was not acting evil as Robin Hood was. The Man in the Water showed great
generosity when it comes to human nature which put him at the top of the spectrum. There is a
difference between Man in the Water and BeoWulf because BeoWulf is not as high up as Man in the
water is on the spectrum.
The evidence that I have shown on Man in the Water shows that this man was willing to risk
everything for complete strangers. It shows me that this man is willing to do anything for his
fellow man and he is a true hero. This man is on the top of the spectrum in every way possible. He
is at the top because he gave the greatest gift possible, and continued to give it to everyone till he
died for his good deeds. The spectrum contains good and bad characters and this man was definitely
very good.
In Robin Hood Robin's actions put him on both ends of the spectrum he is good

It is important to help others in need. First, if we do not help, then people may not help us when
we are in distress. For example, a man just fell down. If we do not help them, the man may not
even care to help us when we are in need. In addition, the person may suffer lethal injuries. For
example, a teacher is going down the streets, broke his leg and started bleeding. If someone does
not take him to the hospital, he will not be able to survive, if something dangerous happened to
him. Furthermore, if we do not help, we may feel guilty that we did not help them. For example,
someone lost his hat. If we do not assist them, we may feel guilty that we did not help them.
Consequently, helping people in need is crucial for everyone.

I practice these skills everywhere I go. I have to be respectful everyone because in order to

have to watch over her and make sure she is okay. Peacefulness I think is a natural trait that I have

Motive Behind Helping People
One of my strength is trying my best to help someone without expecting anything in return. Some
people help others because they might receive a favor from that person one day or the person might
give them money. Many people ask me what my motive behind helping people? My answer is
simple, I don't help people because I have to, but I help people because I think it is a privilege that
God give me to further glorify his name. One of my weakness is when I hear a parent or anybody
talking bad or negative about a kid. For example, strangers might gossip about "Mrs. X kid" is such
a bad kid, or "Mrs. Y" might repeatedly tell her kid, why are you so bad? Why can't you be like the
other kids at school? Not knowing that words are powerful, therefore,

My Worldview On Helping Others And Poverty
This paper discusses who I am and how I have become the person I am today through different
cultural experiences and my worldview on helping others and poverty. What makes me difference
from other people, why Social Work interests me and the criteria to be a 'fit and proper' Social
Worker.
The word 'culture' can mean numerous things to different people around the world. Most of us are
who we are today because of the different 'cultures' we have been exposed to over the years
through, friends, family and community to name a few. A brief definition of the word 'culture'
means 'the total of the inherited ideas, beliefs, values, and knowledge, which constitute the shared
bases of social action' (Culture, 2012). Many of us would share a belief and/or view on situations
based on our culture and what we have been exposed to. For example, I learnt my cultural values
and idea through family, but because I left home at a young age, I learnt different ideas and beliefs
through friends, community, work and study. As I became older, these changed, because of
marriage, new country and had a family of my own. Therefore, my cultural experiences kept
changing with me, for example, my 'study culture', turned into 'primary school and kindy'. Now I
am a mother, I try and instil some of that into my children as well as allowing them to create their
own beliefs and values through their own culture, like school and recreational activities.
In addition of being a part of a 'mothers culture' I am

Relating to others
Relating to Others Introduction Within this assignment I will explore the ways in which I relate
to others. I will identify any barriers or difficulties which could affect my ability to relate to
others and therefore have an adverse effect on my role as a helper. Egan (1994) states that to be a
fully developed helper, a key component is self awareness. He also suggests that there can be a
"shadow side" to helping, which can adversely affect the outcome of the helping process. Sanders et
al (2009, p.69) examines the importance of a helper's self–awareness. Without self awareness and
knowledge, we all have a tendency to repeat patterns of behaviour unconsciously. Therefore in order
to ensure that sessions are client centred and not...show more content...
I have over time developed a distorted view of myself, as a useless girl who people would not
want to be with, therefore I become a person who I think others want to be with. Sometimes I
have found myself doing things out of character, to join in or to be accepted. I have found that
people have wanted to spend time with me, which in turn has fuelled my belief that if they really
knew me they would not want to be with me; therefore reinforcing my belief. Barriers and
difficulties I find it easy to form relationships, although I do not let people get too close, fearing
rejection or hurt. In the past, I have been hurt by relationships in my life. At the age of three my
violent, alcoholic father left my mother and I. I formed a close bond with my mother and took on
the role of a helper at an early age. Unfortunately my mother is a person who is never happy with
either herself or what she has in her life, therefore often over critical of me. I consistently looked for
her approval, love and acceptance; both in my past and now. In the integrative model,
Psychodynamic strand helps to develop insight into deep–rooted problems which are often thought
to stem from childhood. I have been striving for my mother's love, praise and never really found it.
Continual disapproval at early childhood can create dysfunctional perceptions of self. (Hough 2010

Pursuing My Passion Of Helping People
For the longest time I have wanted to pursue my passion of helping people. That is how I selected
my major to be in Microbiology, so I can move on and eventually get into medical school. After a
year and a half have passed, I decided that I wanted to continue pursuing my passion in business as
well. While attending UNR my first year, I was greatly frustrated because while being majored in
Biology, I also took business courses for my Entrepreneurship minor. As days pass by, I am currently
thinking about swapping my major into the business field. After completing the survey answering
everything honestly, the results showed all business related positions. Now, I did have the
opportunity to manipulate the factors that gave these results, but I honestly believe that these
positions fit what I should be aiming for. After the completion of the survey, the four positions I
decided to select from the list included "Marketing Manager, Public Relations Manager, Events
Manager, Medical Sales Representative." Although my major may not follow along these results,
they do follow along who I believe I am as a person. I decided to prioritize the jobs in order from,
what job I believe I would most fit to the job that I would least recommend for myself. The first job
I chose off the list was the position of Marketing manager. A marketing manager carries the position
of actually using strategized techniques that involve manipulating and giving ideas on how to set the
price of certain products

My Desire And Passion For Helping Others
My desire and passion for helping others is intertwine with my personal and professional life
experiences. Growing up in Guatemala, a third world country, helped me become the person I am
today. My first twelve years in my native country taught me lessons that changed my perspective
and shaped who I am and who I want to be in the future. From a young age, I had this great
admiration for nature and in Guatemala I was able to admire it. I remember endless nights
looking at the stars and patiently waiting for a shooting star. Nature was my play room. Life in
Guatemala was beautiful but it wasn't easy. It was not until I came to the United States that I
begin to realize how much my mother had sheltered me from the violence and poverty that
surrounded us. Sadly, my beautiful country is fill with corruption. The rich exploit the poor and
laws are created to protect does in power regardless of their wrongdoing. In Guatemala, women are
treated unequally because our society has rigid gender roles and has created a culture that takes
pride in masculinity and machismo. It was well known in my small village that if a man found a
female attractive and wanted her for himself he could "robarte" which translates to "steal you." My
mother and many other women in my family experienced this. My father was a policeman in
Guatemala and he was attracted to my mother. My mother, on the other hand, was not looking for
any serious relationship because she was only 17 years old. The city closest to

Reflective Essay On Helping People
We always talked about helping others. I noticed that you love helping people, it gives you joy to
help others, and I think that's something we both share. I understand now, when you cannot help
me, you don't feel the joy. In a way you feel like you can't help me and it may feel like a rejection. I
am not rejecting you when you offer help and I say no. There are times where I should have asked
for help and I didn't, because I thought you couldn't, which isn't an excuse, I should have given
you a chance. I didn't ask for help because I was embarrassed and thought you would think less of
me. I have problems with helping others and my professor actually pulled me aside from the final
and wanted me to write why I felt like I need to be a savoir, and help others so much. I talked to her
after class as a therapist and not a professor. I realized that what I thought was helping, was
actually not. I thought all help was good and it's not. When I go out my way and help others who
been helped their whole lives, I'm just feeding into what they want. I'm not letting them learn on
their own, and will continue to help, and its actually not helping at all. I am guilty of doing that to
you sometimes. I'm always trying to help and it's not real help and we get stuck in the same cycle.
We went back and forth on this relationship, at one point you didn't want it, and I did, another point
you wanted it and I didn't. There were points where we both wanted it and It was wonderful. I had

Essay Helping Others

  • 1. Are People Likely To Protect Others? Many people wonder why they are left alone and without a purpose, but the solution has always been in plain sight; it is always in your best interest to aid others. If you are too focused on yourself and act as if you are the only one that matters, who would help you when you wouldn't help anyone? The reasons why it would be wise to protect others is shown throughout history and many people's lives, proven true time and time again. Standing up to injustices happening to a person can form a strong trust between you and that person, even if they are someone you never have met before. Although it is implied by parents or society that as an individual you should only concern yourself with problems that pertain to you, it is crucial that you recognize the struggles of others because of the various benefits it can provide for you. While many people believe trying to protect others will produce negativity, the actuality is that doing this allures benefits to your happiness which in turn improves your overall mental state. What I mean by mental state is how you are feeling at a certain time and whether you are thinking about a situation negatively or positively. This is where happiness plays a major role towards your state of mind, as proven by a study ran by a group of sociologists. They claimed that people who described themselves as, "very happy" volunteered in helping others or participating in community service for 5.8 hours a month. This study consisted of 2000 people Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Ways to Help Others Helping others is one of the most important things one can do in today's time I believe in helping those that I love and care about. Even people I don't really know need help and I'm willing to help them in any way that I can. It makes my day knowing that I've helped someone and put a smile on both of our faces. I feel good knowing I can actually say that I made a difference in someone's life besides mine. There are plenty of ways to help people out. You can help someone out mentally, physically, emotionally and financially. For example, one way to help others out is by doing it financially. Financially is one of the biggest ways today to help someone. There are many organizations to help families out in the world that need money for a family member that has cancer, a diseases or even a family member they have lost. These are the most helpful ways finically. It makes the families fell so much more relieved that they have help and don't have to struggle on how they're going to pay for things such as transportation, treatments, and all the extra bills they have to put money towards. Other ways to help out is emotionally and mentally. People go through stuff every day and feel like they have no one to run to. Being there for someone emotionally and mentally is one of the best things you can do. Not only is it one of the best things you could do it can also be one of the hardest things to deal with. It's one of the most privileged ways to help someone; they have to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Altruism: Why Do People Help Others? After 70 years, the world is still transfixed by the heroism of Miep Gies, who risked her life to help Frank's family and other families from the Nazis, providing them with food and other necessities. Many have argued that altruism (selfless act to increase someone's welfare without regard to one's self–interest) does not exist because no one can explain the Holocausts, wars and terrorist attack. But few people have asked why do people help others? Why would Miep Gies risk imprisonment, torture and even death to save others' lives? (Batson 2014). While it is clear that raising the question of the existence of altruism opens a Pandora box of complicated issues, answering the question is fundamental to understand human nature, the role of people...show more content... It is indicated that the act of giving can activate the area of the brain associated with positive emotions to overcome the chronic stress that affects a person's emotion (depression and anger), thinking (apathy and hopelessness) and behaviour (insomnia and addiction) (Post 2005). In a study of 846 older couples, participants were interviewed about stressful events they had experienced and the amount of helping provided to a relative or neighbour. After adjusting factors including initial health, personality, income, age and gender, researchers found that exposing to stressful events increased mortality over the next 5 years among people who provided no emotional or instrumental support (Brown et al. 2003). This is because helping others increase positive feelings in response to daily stress, in turn, it speeds the recovery of some diseases such as the cardiovascular from the aftereffects of negative emotions (Brown et al. • 4. Why Do People Help Others? Essay To discuss why people help others we must consider whether people are by nature selfless or selfish. The dominant view today in psychology is of universal egoism; that we are fundamentally selfish, and that altruism (helping motivated by the wish to benefit another person) an impossibility. One form of universal egoism is Piliavin et al's "arousal: cost–reward" model, whereby faced with a potential helping situation we weigh the probable costs and rewards of alternative courses of action, then arrive at a decision which produces the best outcome for ourselves.Darley and Batson (1973) conducted an experiment into the effect of the cost time in the decision to offer help. They found that 63% of students with plenty of time to get...show more content... Piliavin found that there is evidence of racism occurring in our decisions to help when he found that blacks were much more likely to help a black drunk, and whites a white drunk. This suggests that we are less likely to help those with the least genes in common with us.Chagnon & Bugos (1979), in an analysis of fighting in Southern Venezuela, found that the likelihood of a person helping another was strongly correlated with their genetic relatedness to the person. However, how do we account for cases of altruism on the part of animals who are not related? This could be explained by the fact that all members of a species have an element of shared genes even if not at all closely related. Trivers (1971), however, proposed the principle of delayed reciprocal altruism, whereby animals return favours, therefore helpful behaviour is worthwhile because it is likely to be returned. For example, Packer (1977) observed that male baboons which assisted another male in courting were more likely to receive this help in return. Batson (1987), in contradiction with universal egoism proposed the "empathy–altruism" hypothesis. He saw helping as the result of feeling empathy (experiencing another's emotions). By experimentally manipulating the degree to which his subjects experienced empathy or personal distress in a potential helping situation Batson showed that empathetically aroused Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Christian Coaching : Helping Others For those that are feeling stuck in their lives, coaching has become a way to help people focus on what they need to do. It is no longer enough to settle for where you may end up in life. There are some people that choose to move from their current state of comfort towards something that is more self– fulfilling in nature. By taking effective coaching philosophies and applying them in a God–centered fashion, Collins lays out a plan to help people find their way to God's vision for their lives. This text serves as an introduction to the discipline of life coaching with a Christian aspect for those who choose to coach others through life and situations with God at the center. This text is not just beneficial for Christians but for...show more content... The main key point taking from this section is that coaching is a partnership, "it involves the active and collaborating participation of both the coach and the client" (Collins, 2009, p.84). The process of building a partnership includes both the client and coach understanding what coaching is and what it is not. What is does include is both parties knowing how to listen to what is being said. Collins (2009) makes sure to mention that it is not enough to just listen, but one has to listen attentively meaning informally, actively, and intuitively and also details some barriers to listening that could hinder the coaching process. The acronyms HEAR is used to help the coach understand what he or she should be listening for. Collins (2009) introduces a four part coaching road map that includes awareness or where we are, vision or where we want to be, obstacles or what gets in the way, and strategy and action or how do we get there, that is centered on Jesus that can help a client stay the course during their journey (Collins, 2009). By following this model, the coach can help the client focus on doing things differently in order to get different results. It is this transformation that Collins (2009) sees as "the ultimate goal of Christian coaching" (Collins, 2009, p.127). The next three sections focus specifically on the coaching road map and how to assess the client in their progress. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Definition Essay On Helping Being Helpful in Different ways: A Definition Essay "You do not need a reason to help someone." ("Media Web Apps," n.d.). Helping is the reaction that comes from heart not because of self–interest. Some people have temperament to be helpful, or it can be nurtured from parents. When someone needs help in any way, people offer their hand without thinking. Helping is caring about yourself and caring about others. Helping is not being conceited and not seeing others lower than you when you help them. Helping is when someone lends a hand without thinking and not waiting for anything in return. Helping is the action which can effectively change people's lives by giving money, encouraging people and expecting results in the future. People may not be able to change the world, but they may change a person's life by help his/her. Helping people can be shown in many ways such as giving money. For example, when a friend has a financial problem, and he/she can not overcome it, people can give money to help him/her. In addition, helping is to make life easier for someone else. Another way to show helping by giving money is donating. Many people around the world live in poverty which make life difficult for them. • 7. Personal Narrative- Helping Others Essay example Personal Narrative– Helping Others Declining standards of living and continuing exportation of our jobs have resulted in rising stress levels for all Americans. This results in negative effects on our well being– mentally, physically and emotionally. Some people seek to reduce stress levels by using alcohol and drugs. Some overwork themselves, resulting in mental breakdowns. The pharmaceutical giants pocket billions of dollars a year from sales of tranquillisers, anti–depressants, barbiturates, amphetamines, and other psychoactive medications. We know we must learn to control stress in safer, saner, and healthier ways. So we read about Yoga or Aromatherapy, or maybeFeng Shui. We think about doing stress–management courses....show more content... Now we can unite –– across borders, oceans, continents – and work together in ways that were not possible before. How often do we hear about some injustice on the other side of the globe and think, "That's awful. Something should be done about that." And then we tell ourselves, "Well, there's nothing I can do about it. I'm just an ordinary Joe Soap. I don't have any power over these things." But we do! The power is in our fingers. Consider, just for one moment: No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment. Article 5 – Universal Declaration of Human Rights Torture is abhorrent. Torture is illegal. Yet torture is inflicted on men, women and children in well over half the countries of the world. Amnesty International Amnesty International (www.amnesty.org) is a worldwide campaigning movement that works to promote all the human rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Nowadays, one can subscribe to an Amnesty list (www.stoptorture.org), occasionally receive an "urgent action" request email, click on a web address and sign an online petition on behalf of someone at risk. If you wish, you can then follow up with a more detailed letter (snail mail or often email) to the Government or rulers of the country involved. Amnesty provides all

  • 9. Friendship Essay: Helping a Friend in Need It is very sad to see a friend or relative suffering or in need, especially when they pretend that everything is all right. It is a delicate situation when approaching someone in this predicament, as often a person's pride stands in the way of reaching out for comfort. How to offer your help to an independent friend or relative in this position requires a bit of clever manipulation and a not–so– obvious plan in order to help. If the problem at hand is a financial matter, the first response would be to offer them a loan. On the other hand, most people would be embarrassed to admit to this, and will perhaps be offended at the offer. However, instead of outright offering them money, trading a service in return for payment would not seem as...show more content... This will certainly make them feel better and will be helping them out at the same time. Friends or relatives who have children may experience times when they cannot afford to give them the luxuries of toys, games or name brand clothing. At the same time, while most children do not understand hard times, these friends or relatives hurt inside because of this. It would probably be insulting to them if you bought a bag of toys, a new wardrobe for the kids or a slew of games and delivered these items in order to help. Overall, there is a way to present such items in a fashion that will not seem like charity. While honesty is the best policy, lending a helping hand when we are in a position to do so often takes precedence. Telling our life long friend or family member that our children received clothing as a gift, but it did not fit, or perhaps received a duplicate toy or game and offering it to their children is a way to help in times of despair. Many times when family or friends decide to meet or get together to go out for dinner, drinks, or even to a movie, we take for granite the expense of these excursions and expect that everyone can participate. On the contrary, when a friend or relative bows out, the reason why they decline becomes obvious. Here again, little white lies come in to play, and compassion takes over. Mentioning to this friend or relative that you Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Serving God, Serving Others Serving God, Serving others Many people don't understand how important serving is. I have found that at some schools, serving is important and is required to graduate. Service is the action of helping or doing work for someone. Serving can help others learn more about the world and help them position into a mature adult. Although service is required sometimes, people should serve by choice. Service hours are designed to help students grow in a relationship with God as well as discovering new ways to serve and help others. At McNicholas High School, forty service hours are required to graduate. McNick believes that students should serve God while serving others. Serving is an essential part of Mcnicks history. Students say that serving left them with an impact of knowledge in what they want to do with their life. On mcnicks website, they have a list of approved agencies for students to choose from. The agencies are categorized by: caring for children, feeding those who are hungry, caring for people with disabilities, caring for those who are sick, visiting with our elders, providing clothing, providing shelter, caring for animals, and caring for the earth. When serving, some agencies require an age minimum. Students at Mcnick are offered several different options to serve. Serving different places help the students decided upon their future. (mcnick) Service club is an essential club that is available to all who sign up. Of all the clubs, service club is the most active. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. The Importance of Helping Others One time I had to help my friend Louie. We had been at my house and he forgot to turn his lights off in his old pickup. He went to start it and it would not turn over, he realized that he left his lights on. I brought my pickup over to try and jump start his pickup. I wasted a quarter tank of gas revving up my truck to try to provide more power. At this point we gave up, we then realized that we could roll start his pickup. I pulled his truck with my truck up the bump to my sloped driveway. He got rolling, popped the clutch, and off he went. Being able to help someone is a great advantage in life. I love helping people and to be able to help my friend in his moment of need is a great pleasure in my life. When he got that truck going it ...show more content... BeoWulf is placed on the spectrum somewhere toward the top between robin hood and man in the water because he was very courageous and strong but he did not give the ultimate gift like man in the water but he was not acting evil as Robin Hood was. The Man in the Water showed great generosity when it comes to human nature which put him at the top of the spectrum. There is a difference between Man in the Water and BeoWulf because BeoWulf is not as high up as Man in the water is on the spectrum. The evidence that I have shown on Man in the Water shows that this man was willing to risk everything for complete strangers. It shows me that this man is willing to do anything for his fellow man and he is a true hero. This man is on the top of the spectrum in every way possible. He is at the top because he gave the greatest gift possible, and continued to give it to everyone till he died for his good deeds. The spectrum contains good and bad characters and this man was definitely very good. In Robin Hood Robin's actions put him on both ends of the spectrum he is good Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. It is important to help others in need. First, if we do not help, then people may not help us when we are in distress. For example, a man just fell down. If we do not help them, the man may not even care to help us when we are in need. In addition, the person may suffer lethal injuries. For example, a teacher is going down the streets, broke his leg and started bleeding. If someone does not take him to the hospital, he will not be able to survive, if something dangerous happened to him. Furthermore, if we do not help, we may feel guilty that we did not help them. For example, someone lost his hat. If we do not assist them, we may feel guilty that we did not help them. Consequently, helping people in need is crucial for everyone. • 13. Personal Narrative: Helping With Others I practice these skills everywhere I go. I have to be respectful everyone because in order to receive respect you must give respect. A positive trait I practice everyday is caring because I babysit my little sister every afternoon. Therefore,I can't be selfish and just think about my self I have to watch over her and make sure she is okay. Peacefulness I think is a natural trait that I have because I don't like to argue. I normally try to let everything pass and move on with life. In a community as big as Oakland everyone has to learn about citizenship. I learned about citizenship with school. It has to do with knowing how to co–operate with others in order to get a job done right and well. Empathy I practice with my parents because I help Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Motive Behind Helping People One of my strength is trying my best to help someone without expecting anything in return. Some people help others because they might receive a favor from that person one day or the person might give them money. Many people ask me what my motive behind helping people? My answer is simple, I don't help people because I have to, but I help people because I think it is a privilege that God give me to further glorify his name. One of my weakness is when I hear a parent or anybody talking bad or negative about a kid. For example, strangers might gossip about "Mrs. X kid" is such a bad kid, or "Mrs. Y" might repeatedly tell her kid, why are you so bad? Why can't you be like the other kids at school? • 15. My Worldview On Helping Others And Poverty This paper discusses who I am and how I have become the person I am today through different cultural experiences and my worldview on helping others and poverty. What makes me difference from other people, why Social Work interests me and the criteria to be a 'fit and proper' Social Worker. The word 'culture' can mean numerous things to different people around the world. Most of us are who we are today because of the different 'cultures' we have been exposed to over the years through, friends, family and community to name a few. A brief definition of the word 'culture' means 'the total of the inherited ideas, beliefs, values, and knowledge, which constitute the shared bases of social action' (Culture, 2012). Many of us would share a belief and/or view on situations based on our culture and what we have been exposed to. For example, I learnt my cultural values and idea through family, but because I left home at a young age, I learnt different ideas and beliefs through friends, community, work and study. As I became older, these changed, because of marriage, new country and had a family of my own. Therefore, my cultural experiences kept changing with me, for example, my 'study culture', turned into 'primary school and kindy'. Now I am a mother, I try and instil some of that into my children as well as allowing them to create their own beliefs and values through their own culture, like school and recreational activities. • 16. Relating to others Relating to Others Introduction Within this assignment I will explore the ways in which I relate to others. I will identify any barriers or difficulties which could affect my ability to relate to others and therefore have an adverse effect on my role as a helper. Egan (1994) states that to be a fully developed helper, a key component is self awareness. He also suggests that there can be a "shadow side" to helping, which can adversely affect the outcome of the helping process. Sanders et al (2009, p.69) examines the importance of a helper's self–awareness. Without self awareness and knowledge, we all have a tendency to repeat patterns of behaviour unconsciously. Therefore in order to ensure that sessions are client centred and not...show more content... I have over time developed a distorted view of myself, as a useless girl who people would not want to be with, therefore I become a person who I think others want to be with. Sometimes I have found myself doing things out of character, to join in or to be accepted. I have found that people have wanted to spend time with me, which in turn has fuelled my belief that if they really knew me they would not want to be with me; therefore reinforcing my belief. Barriers and difficulties I find it easy to form relationships, although I do not let people get too close, fearing rejection or hurt. In the past, I have been hurt by relationships in my life. At the age of three my violent, alcoholic father left my mother and I. I formed a close bond with my mother and took on the role of a helper at an early age. Unfortunately my mother is a person who is never happy with either herself or what she has in her life, therefore often over critical of me. I consistently looked for her approval, love and acceptance; both in my past and now. In the integrative model, Psychodynamic strand helps to develop insight into deep–rooted problems which are often thought to stem from childhood. I have been striving for my mother's love, praise and never really found it. Continual disapproval at early childhood can create dysfunctional perceptions of self. (Hough 2010 p.125). • 18. Pursuing My Passion Of Helping People For the longest time I have wanted to pursue my passion of helping people. That is how I selected my major to be in Microbiology, so I can move on and eventually get into medical school. After a year and a half have passed, I decided that I wanted to continue pursuing my passion in business as well. While attending UNR my first year, I was greatly frustrated because while being majored in Biology, I also took business courses for my Entrepreneurship minor. As days pass by, I am currently thinking about swapping my major into the business field. After completing the survey answering everything honestly, the results showed all business related positions. Now, I did have the opportunity to manipulate the factors that gave these results, but I honestly believe that these positions fit what I should be aiming for. After the completion of the survey, the four positions I decided to select from the list included "Marketing Manager, Public Relations Manager, Events Manager, Medical Sales Representative." Although my major may not follow along these results, they do follow along who I believe I am as a person. I decided to prioritize the jobs in order from, what job I believe I would most fit to the job that I would least recommend for myself. The first job I chose off the list was the position of Marketing manager. Growing up in Guatemala, a third world country, helped me become the person I am today. I didn't ask for help because I was embarrassed and thought you would think less of me. I have problems with helping others and my professor actually pulled me aside from the final and wanted me to write why I felt like I need to be a savoir, and help others so much. I talked to her after class as a therapist and not a professor. I realized that what I thought was helping, was actually not. I thought all help was good and it's not. When I go out my way and help others who been helped their whole lives, I'm just feeding into what they want. I'm not letting them learn on their own, and will continue to help, and its actually not helping at all. I am guilty of doing that to you sometimes. I'm always trying to help and it's not real help and we get stuck in the same cycle. We went back and forth on this relationship, at one point you didn't want it, and I did, another point you wanted it and I didn't. There were points where we both wanted it and It was wonderful.
