High School Admission Essay Sample
At my fifth birthday party my mother had a Mad Scientist come to entertain the kids at my party.
The mad scientist performed many fun experiments with dry ice, and my interest in science was
born that day. As a five year old, I begged my mother to enroll me in a summer science class, since
science fascinated me. Even though I was actually the only female in that summer class of 25
students it did not deter me from enrolling in science classes every summer since then.
Throughout my childhood, my interest in science also intertwined with my interest in the arts. In
middle school, I volunteered at the after school art program daily, helping other kids with art
assignments. At my eighth grade graduation, I received both the art awards my middle school
offered, for dedication to after school art programs. Did I mention that I was also a competitive
dancer for about seven years, proficient in ballet, jazz, tap and Indian classical dance. This is when I

My mother always told the puzzling story of how the cardiac catheterization performed on him
before he passed away did not reveal any blockages or heart problems, and yet he passed away once
he was put on the heart lung machine as a precaution after the procedure. During the many meetings
my mother had with the hospital officials and doctors to figure out his cause of death, the probable
cause of death was attributed to the drug "Rezulin", the diabetes medication he was prescribed. That
incident, the unexpected shock, the trauma, and the aftermath of figuring out the cause of his death,
developed my interest in medicine and inspired me to study medical sciences. Even though both my
parents are engineers, once they became aware of my interest in the medical sciences, they

I am a unique candidate for University High School because I have a lot of experience with public
speaking and working with Special Olympics. I have years of experience, knowledge, and
enthusiasm to contribute to the Speech Team, Musicals, and Plays. I seek out opportunities to grow
and become more confident in my public speaking daliy. Some of my past and current speaking and
performing opportunities include being selected for the lead role in the junior high play the past two

Last year I spoke to approximately 3,000 people throughout two church services which involved
writing my own script and preparing to speak. In addition to my academic speaking and
performing opportunities, I auditioned for a spot on the church Video Team as a third grader.
Being a part of the team required memorizing scripts, filming in front of a video camera, and
reading from teleprompters. After 'aging out' of the team, I was asked by the director to assist with
helping the younger kids learn their scripts and assist with running the teleprompter. I still help

It was hard finding my passion growing up with family of two very business oriented parents, a
brother about to finish medical school, and a sister getting her PhD in Public Health. From the start
of high school I was always told I needed to be a business, pre–med, or pre–law major to make any
money in life. Everyone in my family perceived success as a monetary value, the higher your
salary the higher your happiness. However, I was never able to wrap my head all the way around
the idea. It seemed right on the surface but as I progressed throughout high school taking classes like
accounting, AP biology, and AP government I found myself hating the courses. Even if jobs in
fields related to these subjects were the ones that made you money in the real world, why should I
be miserable taking classes like this my entire college career to get a job I would probably hate my

I took a couple of classes and joined a couple of clubs my family convinced me to join but nothing

idea but for me it was just a chance to escape my days of school and do something else. I thought
of it as just a hobby at first, however the more and more I went rehearsal everyday the more and
more I found myself not being able to sit through a whole day of school knowing I had rehearsal
later that day. The numerous ways you are able create theatre inspired me all the way from on the
stage, directing, playwriting, design, and much more. It's an art form with little to absolutely no

In my four years of high school I have become involved in many different clubs and organizations.
These different organizations led me to new leadership opportunities. One of my goals as a leader
was to improve the student involvement and school spirit at South Barber. My senior year I
decided to take the initiative and fulfill my goal. This year I have organized a Back–to–School Bash,
involving grades ninth through twelfth, which created a positive atmosphere to start the school year.
I have also organized spirit week competitions, rewarded the classes who participated in spirit week,

This joke has more than a ring of truth to it. The opportunities available to me at CYHS are more

In order to collect funds to adopt a panda for the school, we set up recycling bins throughout the

The past four years in and outside of Adlai E. Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire, Illinois have
been highlighted with a multitude of flavorous events that created internal and external
accomplishments within a life I am pleased to call my own. Each activity brought about a new
chapter in my own self discovery and alluded to a mindset that aged me from childhood to
adulthood. From first setting my blank canvas of a body in the uncharted ground of high school, I
knew as a young pupil I was blossoming with potential to create something better for myself. I

possible outcome could be learning instruments for my own self gain. My blind remark was
disproved quickly as being involved in the arts aided in meeting new people, creating a fearlessness

Middle School Application Essay Sample
Since submitting my original application to Berkeley back in November, I organized and took a
leading role in a project called the Brown Middle School Health Sciences Pilot Program, a project
which has been considerably meaningful to me and my growth as an individual, learner, and leader.
As mentioned previously in my original application, I was perplexed by the seemingly never ending
complexity of human anatomy, and I developed a love for medicine at an early age. Unfortunately,
no classes or programs were offered by my middle school that explored these topics. Although my
desire to seek the health sciences was fulfilled in high school, an opportunity to explore medicine at
an even earlier age would have garnered even further success and would help me progress through
my secondary education at a more focused rate.
Now, as a senior in high school, I was given the opportunity to create a project to help my
community in some way related to health sciences. I immediately formed a small team to organize a
program to benefit my community educationally by giving middle schoolers the chance to explore
medical careers and human anatomy, something I didn't have the chance to do myself at that age.

I am very interested in attending Cornell's College of Agriculture and Life sciences and pursuing a

Biology, in the context of the sociocultural forces it is sure to be applied in. This is not only
intellectually stimulating but also relevant to my upbringing. I am a Modern Orthodox Jew and

Jewish law is regarded as the top priority, the application of necessary health care must be reconciled
with values (for example modesty) that a strictly secular physician would not naturally consider.

As a lifeguard at Camp Stone, a summer camp for Jewish children, I have been put in positions
that demand quick and affirmative medical treatment, all the while remaining sensitive to the
religious values my camper's parents have entrusted me to uphold. I starkly remember stabilizing
the neck of an 11 year old girl's who fell on her head while attempting to dismount from her
councilor's shoulders. While my actions matched perfectly the instructions of my Red Cross
Certified training, I can recall saying a quick prayer in my head for her. Additionally, after a team
of EMTs arrived and took over her care, I, somewhat shellshocked, joined the rest of the camp for a
moment of prayer, admittedly needing some

Throughout my life I have had a plethora of different experiences working with children,
adolescents, and teens with disabilities. I have been able to work, coach, and mentor peers through
academics, sports, and different organizations involving children and adults with disabilities. My
younger brother Morgan is 16 and has Down syndrome. Once Morgan was born my parents became
very involved in the disability community. With my parents being so active within the community,
this provided me with many opportunities for me to volunteer and work with peers of various
abilities.
In my earlier years, middle school and freshman year of high school, I was able to volunteer as a
peer model for a social group. This social group was located at the Marian Hope Center, in
Independence, Missouri, and consisted of teenagers with different diagnoses. Weekly, this social
group would meet and participate in different activities throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area
to improve their social skills. Some activities included going to the movies, out to eat, bowling, and
board games. As a peer model I helped discuss money management as well as time management, and

My senior year of high school I began training athletes of all ages during the offseason. My passion
for educating as well as athletics provided me with an excellent platform to help other athletes
improve. While training I was able to help adolescents achieve their athletic goals, improve their
skillset, and was also able to help mentor them through many life situations. Throughout my time as
a trainer I was able to develop many relationships with players, coaches, and athletic directors.
During this time as a trainer I was able to more thoroughly understand different learning styles and
how to adapt to each. Communication was also a skill that improved during this experience through
the scheduling and specific needs of each

  • 1. High School Admission Essay Sample At my fifth birthday party my mother had a Mad Scientist come to entertain the kids at my party. The mad scientist performed many fun experiments with dry ice, and my interest in science was born that day. As a five year old, I begged my mother to enroll me in a summer science class, since science fascinated me. Even though I was actually the only female in that summer class of 25 students it did not deter me from enrolling in science classes every summer since then. Throughout my childhood, my interest in science also intertwined with my interest in the arts. In middle school, I volunteered at the after school art program daily, helping other kids with art assignments. At my eighth grade graduation, I received both the art awards my middle school offered, for dedication to after school art programs. Did I mention that I was also a competitive dancer for about seven years, proficient in ballet, jazz, tap and Indian classical dance. This is when I began to...show more content... My mother always told the puzzling story of how the cardiac catheterization performed on him before he passed away did not reveal any blockages or heart problems, and yet he passed away once he was put on the heart lung machine as a precaution after the procedure. During the many meetings my mother had with the hospital officials and doctors to figure out his cause of death, the probable cause of death was attributed to the drug "Rezulin", the diabetes medication he was prescribed. That incident, the unexpected shock, the trauma, and the aftermath of figuring out the cause of his death, developed my interest in medicine and inspired me to study medical sciences. Even though both my parents are engineers, once they became aware of my interest in the medical sciences, they encouraged me to follow my developing Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. High School Application Essay I am a unique candidate for University High School because I have a lot of experience with public speaking and working with Special Olympics. I have years of experience, knowledge, and enthusiasm to contribute to the Speech Team, Musicals, and Plays. I seek out opportunities to grow and become more confident in my public speaking daliy. Some of my past and current speaking and performing opportunities include being selected for the lead role in the junior high play the past two years, saying the pledge of allegiance every morning on the announcements at the junior high I attend, receiving the Judges Award for outstanding performance two years in a row in the Junior High Speech team competition, and introducing author Roland K Smith to the 7th graders when he ...show more content... Last year I spoke to approximately 3,000 people throughout two church services which involved writing my own script and preparing to speak. In addition to my academic speaking and performing opportunities, I auditioned for a spot on the church Video Team as a third grader. Being a part of the team required memorizing scripts, filming in front of a video camera, and reading from teleprompters. After 'aging out' of the team, I was asked by the director to assist with helping the younger kids learn their scripts and assist with running the teleprompter. I still help when my schedule allows, as I have become involved in the junior high ministry where i am a member of the Leadership Team and the Meditation Team. At my church and my school I'm involved with Special needs. At church I work in the special needs ministry on Sundays when I'm not doing meditations. While working in the special needs ministry I take my partner to her service and help her understand the lesson for the day. At school I participate in Special Olympics with my partner. • 3. Essay On High School Admission It was hard finding my passion growing up with family of two very business oriented parents, a brother about to finish medical school, and a sister getting her PhD in Public Health. From the start of high school I was always told I needed to be a business, pre–med, or pre–law major to make any money in life. Everyone in my family perceived success as a monetary value, the higher your salary the higher your happiness. However, I was never able to wrap my head all the way around the idea. It seemed right on the surface but as I progressed throughout high school taking classes like accounting, AP biology, and AP government I found myself hating the courses. Even if jobs in fields related to these subjects were the ones that made you money in the real world, why should I be miserable taking classes like this my entire college career to get a job I would probably hate my ...show more content... I took a couple of classes and joined a couple of clubs my family convinced me to join but nothing ever clicked with me. I finally took the initiative after seeing my high school theatre department's production of Noises Off to join the theatre department. My parents were initially very against the idea but for me it was just a chance to escape my days of school and do something else. I thought of it as just a hobby at first, however the more and more I went rehearsal everyday the more and more I found myself not being able to sit through a whole day of school knowing I had rehearsal later that day. The numerous ways you are able create theatre inspired me all the way from on the stage, directing, playwriting, design, and much more. It's an art form with little to absolutely no retsaits, the only limit is when we limit ourselves as creators. It was quick transition before I knew theatre meant something special to me, this wasn't "just another one of those clubs" I was in Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Every aspect of Penn has impressed and convinced me that it's my dream school. The campus is beautiful and it's only a fifteen minutes drive away from my house. To me, the urban yet historical city of Philadelphia is still a mystery box that's waiting to be explored. The diversity and intense curriculum match the setting in which I wish to engrossed myself for the next four years. As of right now, I'm fascinated by a variety of majors including economics, mathematical economics, and psychology. I haven't decided which one I want to pursue but I know that the advisors at the College of Arts and Sciences will guide me to make the best decision. Unlike many school, The College's liberal arts foundation offers a variety of flexible academic disciplines bestowing upon me a chance to explore my miscellaneous interests. These different organizations led me to new leadership opportunities. One of my goals as a leader was to improve the student involvement and school spirit at South Barber. My senior year I decided to take the initiative and fulfill my goal. This year I have organized a Back–to–School Bash, involving grades ninth through twelfth, which created a positive atmosphere to start the school year. Tutoring teaches the students how to properly study for their tests or how to improve their homework capabilities. As a senior in high school, I can remember being a mini cheerleader and looking up to the high school cheerleaders. Throughout all four years of high school, I have had the privilege of being that high school cheerleader to other younger girls. When creating bonds with these younger girls, I know that they look up to me as their role model. • 8. Cyhs Application Essay Sample Some of my friends from other school districts like to joke that I attend Central York University. This joke has more than a ring of truth to it. The opportunities available to me at CYHS are more than any other school district I know, and in some ways outshine what even a college could offer its students. Choice is a driving factor at CYHS. Opening up the course selection guide can sometimes be almost intimidating because of all the choices I have as a student. This style of learning has prepared me for college environments in which students are expected to do many of the things I am already doing in my high school classes. My interests and passions supplement my education in high school in a variety of ways. Show choir, musicals, plays, chorus, band, jazz band, and so much more allowed me to use my creativity everyday in multiple ways. All of these arts opportunities added to the excitement of coming to school, which naturally helped me succeed in my academic pursuits. Not only do I enjoy high school, but many weekend days have been spent waiting to go back to school so that I can sing again, or play my trumpet again, or just learn something really interesting. Another thing that makes it exciting to come to school is the staff at CYHS. Never have I connected better with my teachers than I have in high school. I am able to open up to them and create friendships with them, which lets me contribute more to and get more from my classes because I feel Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Njhs Application Essay Examples I would be a great candidate for an officer of NJHS because I know how to stay organized and on task, I can communicate my ideas to others effectively, and I have great leadership skills. For example, in 6th grade, my friends and I volunteered during an 8th grade lunch hour to sell lemonade for a charity called Alex's Lemonade Stand, which is a foundation for childhood cancer. Even though the 8th graders were extremely loud and distracting, and often tried to get lemonade for free, my friends and I stayed on task. In order to collect funds to adopt a panda for the school, we set up recycling bins throughout the school for students to put their water bottles in. In turn, every week one person from the group would pick up the water bottles and bring them to a grocery store, recycle them, and collect money from it. We also made many presentations to people of authority, such as the Principals and the Parent–Teacher Association. After the school year had ended, we had raised over $500 and adopted a giant panda cub for the school. We also had seen the effect of ourleadership and cooperativity show up in younger students, who, many of them, were eager to help other causes. Finally, over the recent summer, I was the first violinist in a string quartet in a youth symphony workshop I attended. As first violinist, I was in charge of leading the group during rehearsals and in the final performance we had at the end of the week. During rehearsals, I worked with the rest of the group to master an entire quartet piece in one week, which involved keeping the group together and with the tempo throughout the song, making sure all cues were on time, and that we all knew which areas of the song to practice each day to ensure that the piece would be perfected by our final Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Personal Statement: High School Admission Excelling in everything I do is a goal that I strive for no matter what it is I'm doing. I have worked so hard for everything I've achieved throughout my four years of high school, and have been accepted into the Naval Academy Preparatory School because of that determination. Being one step closer to an appointment to the United States Naval Academy has not only kept my eye on the prize, but has also pushed me harder to keep doing my absolute best. When I received a congratulating email from my dream college less than a week after receiving all three Congressional Nominations last year, ecstatic doesn't even describe how thrilled I was. Although the email wasn't giving me a direct appointment, I believed that Navy Prep would actually be the best option for me. Transitioning from a small town in northern Maine to the Naval Academy would've been a tough change, but now I am lucky enough to have the step ladder of NAPS in between. • 11. Stevenson High School Application Essay Sample The past four years in and outside of Adlai E. Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire, Illinois have been highlighted with a multitude of flavorous events that created internal and external accomplishments within a life I am pleased to call my own. Each activity brought about a new chapter in my own self discovery and alluded to a mindset that aged me from childhood to adulthood. From first setting my blank canvas of a body in the uncharted ground of high school, I knew as a young pupil I was blossoming with potential to create something better for myself. I quickly took advantage of the fine arts courses such as guitar and chorus, believing the only possible outcome could be learning instruments for my own self gain. My blind remark was disproved quickly as being involved in the arts aided in meeting new people, creating a fearlessness in my own self expression, and realizing the importance of the music community to yours truly. Using music and it's community as a platform, I developed the skills that are necessary to be an adult. Holding myself responsible for the past moments I created is something a child cannot do. Being able to travel and live in a foreign country at such a young age is one of the most memorable and amazing things that you can do. I believe that if accepted into this program, that I will do my very best to prove myself dedicated as a student because I want to spend my life learning and preparing myself for the real world as a careered woman. I feel like I could provide an interesting perspective to this program, for the main reason of having been apart of programs similar to this one during previous summers. I work well with others, and I always try to keep an open mind as to avoid biases and to be more empathetic and understanding towards others. I am very adaptive to my surroundings even if that means changing topics within a classroom discussion. Something else about me is that I am what is known as an ambivert. This means that I sit in the scale between being and introvert and an extrovert. Although iI do tend to sway more towards the introverted side, but only for the reason that I can get lost in my own thoughts or go for hours without taking a break from a book that I am Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Sample Of Admission Essay For High School My whole life I have been invested in doing what I love, focusing on my true passions, as well as finding new ones. I have been very involved in my high school, and have been lucky enough to be a part of multiple clubs and activities. Without these activities, my high school experience and life would be a lot different. I have been an active drama club member, a part of 'Bottlecappers,' a club advocating anti–drug, alcohol, and bullying to younger students in my district, and many other community service opportunities. I am lucky to have the opportunity to be in these activities, as they have shaped me to be the young adult I am today. Before I even entered high school, I obtained a love of theater and the performing arts. I have been singing and acting since I was nine, as well as on and off dancing since three. Taking classes at a local theater really introduced me to this interest of mine. When I entered high school, an injury kept me from doing shows. But now I graduate with nine high school shows under my belt, as well as being in multiple community theater productions. Being a part of these shows made me feel a strong sense of belonging, and whether I was an ensemble or lead...show more content... As I had mentioned earlier, I am part of an anti–drugs and alcohol club. I am extended the opportunity to speak to young students about the risks they could encounter. The feeling that those students may look up to us is very meaningful, and I feel it is a unique experience. I am lucky to have the chance to save a student's life through this club. Another community activity I enjoy doing is related to performing, but at senior citizen homes. Some of my friends and I often just like to get together with some music and go sing for them. This is a rewarding experience, as seeing the senior citizens smile, and making their day better, is truly a heartwarming experience every time I have the chance to perform for Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 15. High School Application Essay Sample As a child I always had a voice to be heard around the house, whether it was singing along to my favorite Barney songs or bossing my younger brothers around, my home was consistently filled with conversations of humor and sincerity. Soon after the Barney years came to an end, I turned into a chatty pre–teen. Life was moving along conversation to conversation, until it stopped. At the age of twelve, I was rushed to the hospital for what seemed to be a simple headache, but turned out to be a brain abscess– which required two invasive brains surgeries. I was one of the lucky ones, who got to walk away from my condition with both my cognitive and speech functioning remaining intact, but this experience was pivotal for me to want to go into a field where individuals were not so lucky. ...show more content... My time spent in the hospital years ago has directly influenced the type of therapist that I want to be in my future. The most impactful doctors and therapists were those who were not only prepared with extensive knowledge to administer the most appropriate therapies, but also the ones who cared deeply about their patients. • 16. High School Admission Essay Sample Ever since I was younger I have always wanted to help others. I seemed to have an urge to become a doctor because I knew that they helped people. My interests peaked when my grandmother would take me to visit her work. She was a CNA at a nursing home. I was fascinated with everyone wearing their scrubs and just being within the busy atmosphere. My wanting to become a doctor real grew during my high school experience. I had always excelled in the sciences so I took all the required courses, but I also took AP Biology and Anatomy and Physiology. During my senior year, they offered a program for those interested in the medical field, however, it required a selective competition with my other academically inclined peers. The process also had my...show more content... That day, I knew that I wanted to be a doctor that really cared about my patients and that I had earnest interactions with all of them. I just wanted to help people and have a positive impact on their lives. So, when I began my undergraduate program at Knox College, I majored in Biology as that was the pre–med track general route. As such, I needed to take one psychology course which I had to take online due to my many pre–med requirements. Surprisingly, I really enjoyed the course although it was online. The course was very interactive as the professor from Waubonsee had online presentations of the chapter summaries. Don't know if it was because she was so passionate about her field or if I just enjoyed her quicks and personality, but I decided to take psychology as I potential second major. I figured psychology would be beneficial in a field working with people. Furthermore, during that same year I decided to join Alpha Phi Omega, a co–ed community service fraternity because I really enjoy volunteering. I also decided to take a leadership role and ran to become treasurer. I enjoyed the atmosphere and the organization so much that I decided to run for Get more content on HelpWriting.net

A degree in biology will prepare me for work in the medical field which will help me achieve my goal in becoming a doctor. I then wish to go to medical school because the medical field is a place where heroes exist. Doctors, nurses, technicians, and many more are the silent heroes who should be recognized. Considering my interest in the medical field, I am currently volunteering at Pali Momi Medical Center. Throughout the year, I've shadowed health professionals from different departments such as operating room, nursing, food and nutrition, and imaging. I've recently switched to imaging where I shadow sonographers and observe various procedures. This opportunity has enabled me to observe and learn from the staff's expertise of how to perform specific tasks and procedures correctly. • 18. Boone High School Application Essay Sample I am a sixteen–year–old black boy born to two uneducated disabled Haitian immigrants, living in a house of three, family of 12, well below the poverty line. I am a product of my environment. Everything that I think, see or say today has been directly proportional to the people and experiences I have had yesterday. The mentality of success or failure has been ingrained in my mind since birth and has been the primary catalyst for my hardy work ethic. I live in Orlando and attend a predominately caucasian school on a magnet program waiver. The school I am supposed to attend does not have the support necessary to make students successful; it is, unfortunately, a stereotypical impoverished school, where many students and faculty settle for the bare minimum. I am one of only thirty remaining scholars in the William R. Boone High School Law Magnet. I maintain a 5.03 weighted GPA and am in the top 1% of my class. • 19. Middle School Application Essay Sample Since submitting my original application to Berkeley back in November, I organized and took a leading role in a project called the Brown Middle School Health Sciences Pilot Program, a project which has been considerably meaningful to me and my growth as an individual, learner, and leader. As mentioned previously in my original application, I was perplexed by the seemingly never ending complexity of human anatomy, and I developed a love for medicine at an early age. Unfortunately, no classes or programs were offered by my middle school that explored these topics. Although my desire to seek the health sciences was fulfilled in high school, an opportunity to explore medicine at an even earlier age would have garnered even further success and would help me progress through my secondary education at a more focused rate. Now, as a senior in high school, I was given the opportunity to create a project to help my community in some way related to health sciences. I immediately formed a small team to organize a program to benefit my community educationally by giving middle schoolers the chance to explore medical careers and human anatomy, something I didn't have the chance to do myself at that age. ...show more content... Our vision for these lessons was to give the middle schoolers a candid perspective on the medical field, letting them know not just the benefits of becoming a doctor, but also the trials and tribulations they must undego. Furthermore, we wanted them to explore anatomy and medical procedures hands–on, rather than through books or videos. They were to learn how to suture on meshes that accurately simulated real skin, perform CPR on mannequins that gave real time feedback, measure and chart vitals of their partners, and cut into and explore organ specimens that reflected the structure of their human Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 20. High School Admission Essay Sample I am very interested in attending Cornell's College of Agriculture and Life sciences and pursuing a major in Biology and Society. Pursuing this major allows me to incorporate a passion of mine, Biology, in the context of the sociocultural forces it is sure to be applied in. This is not only intellectually stimulating but also relevant to my upbringing. I am a Modern Orthodox Jew and have grown up in a community governed by strict cultural laws. While the preservation of life under Jewish law is regarded as the top priority, the application of necessary health care must be reconciled with values (for example modesty) that a strictly secular physician would not naturally consider. Attending a dual curriculum high–school has further deepened my understanding of the sensitivities and needs of my specific community. For the past four years, I have devoted half of my school day to of traditional general studies, and the other half, to discussing and reviewing the philosophy, ethics, and reasoning behind secular and Jewish Law. This, combined with the urge to get to the bottom of things, wether that be the basic chemical interactions and...show more content... While my actions matched perfectly the instructions of my Red Cross Certified training, I can recall saying a quick prayer in my head for her. • 21. High School Application Essay Sample Throughout my life I have had a plethora of different experiences working with children, adolescents, and teens with disabilities. I have been able to work, coach, and mentor peers through academics, sports, and different organizations involving children and adults with disabilities. My younger brother Morgan is 16 and has Down syndrome. Once Morgan was born my parents became very involved in the disability community. With my parents being so active within the community, this provided me with many opportunities for me to volunteer and work with peers of various abilities. In my earlier years, middle school and freshman year of high school, I was able to volunteer as a peer model for a social group. This social group was located at the Marian Hope Center, in Independence, Missouri, and consisted of teenagers with different diagnoses. Weekly, this social group would meet and participate in different activities throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area to improve their social skills.
