It was hard finding my passion growing up with family of two very business oriented parents, a
brother about to finish medical school, and a sister getting her PhD in Public Health. From the start
of high school I was always told I needed to be a business, pre–med, or pre–law major to make any

salary the higher your happiness. However, I was never able to wrap my head all the way around

my secondary education at a more focused rate.
Now, as a senior in high school, I was given the opportunity to create a project to help my
community in some way related to health sciences. I immediately formed a small team to organize a
program to benefit my community educationally by giving middle schoolers the chance to explore
medical careers and human anatomy, something I didn't have the chance to do myself at that age.
Our vision for these lessons was to give the middle schoolers a candid perspective on the medical
field, letting them know not just the benefits of becoming a doctor, but also the trials and
tribulations they must undego. Furthermore, we wanted them to explore anatomy and medical
procedures hands–on, rather than through books or videos. They were to learn how to suture on
meshes that accurately simulated real skin, perform CPR on mannequins that gave real time
feedback, measure and chart vitals of their partners, and cut into and explore organ specimens that
reflected the structure of their human

I am very interested in attending Cornell's College of Agriculture and Life sciences and pursuing a
major in Biology and Society. Pursuing this major allows me to incorporate a passion of mine,
Biology, in the context of the sociocultural forces it is sure to be applied in. This is not only
intellectually stimulating but also relevant to my upbringing. I am a Modern Orthodox Jew and
have grown up in a community governed by strict cultural laws. While the preservation of life under
Jewish law is regarded as the top priority, the application of necessary health care must be reconciled
with values (for example modesty) that a strictly secular physician would not naturally consider.
Attending a dual curriculum high–school has further deepened my understanding of the sensitivities
and needs of my specific community. For the past four years, I have devoted half of my school day

As a lifeguard at Camp Stone, a summer camp for Jewish children, I have been put in positions
that demand quick and affirmative medical treatment, all the while remaining sensitive to the
religious values my camper's parents have entrusted me to uphold. I starkly remember stabilizing
the neck of an 11 year old girl's who fell on her head while attempting to dismount from her
councilor's shoulders. While my actions matched perfectly the instructions of my Red Cross

Throughout my life I have had a plethora of different experiences working with children,
adolescents, and teens with disabilities. I have been able to work, coach, and mentor peers through
academics, sports, and different organizations involving children and adults with disabilities. My
younger brother Morgan is 16 and has Down syndrome. Once Morgan was born my parents became
very involved in the disability community. With my parents being so active within the community,
this provided me with many opportunities for me to volunteer and work with peers of various
abilities.
In my earlier years, middle school and freshman year of high school, I was able to volunteer as a
peer model for a social group. This social group was located at the Marian Hope Center, in
Independence, Missouri, and consisted of teenagers with different diagnoses. Weekly, this social
group would meet and participate in different activities throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area

My senior year of high school I began training athletes of all ages during the offseason. My passion
for educating as well as athletics provided me with an excellent platform to help other athletes
improve. While training I was able to help adolescents achieve their athletic goals, improve their
skillset, and was also able to help mentor them through many life situations. Throughout my time as
a trainer I was able to develop many relationships with players, coaches, and athletic directors.
