Power equals 1-beta, where beta is the probability of a Type II error. Power is a value between 0 and 1. The higher the power, the more sensitive a research study is to detect a real effect. Researchers are concerned about power before conducting an experiment to design it to minimize Type II errors, and after conducting an experiment to understand why a significant or non-significant effect was found. Power values of 0.40 to 0.60 are considered acceptable.
