It was challenging enough to make sure everyone had access to the software and files they needed back in the days when we all worked on desktops in the office. But with your employees working on their own devices, both in and out of the office, it’s even harder to keep them fully equipped. Plus, you have the added challenge of making sure sensitive or proprietary information stays secure as people come and go with their own laptops, tablets, and smart phones. Fortunately, cloud technologies like Windows Intune are already available to help your business meet these challenges.

As the automotive industry continues its steady increase in the utilisation of electrical components and functions, so too is it faced with the challenge of requiring increasing amounts of processing power within its embedded systems. After continued increases, the clock rates are stagnating so that single-core processors are no longer adequate to satisfy many of the next generation embedded system requirements. The basis technology for future embedded systems must therefore be multi- and many-core processors. Multi-core processors are superior to their single-core predecessor in calculation power and energy efficiency. However, to apply multi-core processors to systems in the embedded domain software developers, integrators and system architects are faced with various new challenges regarding system complexity and controllability. Furthermore, the new technology has an impact on the whole development process and impacts all development phases alike. IQPC’s Second International Conference “Automotive Embedded Multi-Core Systems” will bring together stakeholders from along the value chain to ensure maximum knowledge transfer and professional exchange. During a full three day programme, you will meet international experts from OEMs, suppliers, and academia to discuss, hear and learn about their experiences and challenges with multi-core design, migration and optimisation. For more information visit our website http://bit.ly/1FgzusY If you would like to be part of our Automotive Embedded Multi-Core Systems conference, you can register here http://bit.ly/Multicore_register

Proliferation of XaaS model based on cloud technologies and explosive growth of Internet of Things bring huge benefits to businesses and governments but also do they present a whole new bunch of cybersecurity problems. Importance of cybersecurity has skyrocketed after recent attacks on the biggest world brands. No one is safe anymore. 82% of U.S. business executives are worried that cyber threats could impact their companies’ growth prospects. Some estimates show that cyber attacks cost businesses as much as $400 billion a year. This trend opens a wide opportunity window for telecommunication companies. For over a decade CSPs cared about perimeter security only and now they can play a more substantial role securing their large userships in a way more dangerous environment. Fortunately, there are many successful cases when CSP could turn dumb pipes into secure ones. In this ppt I tried to highlight some recent developments in security domain and outline other ideas CSPs could use to force security transformation. As usual I welcome any thoughts and feedback on the matter. Thank you!

Alan Roberts: Student engagement in shaping Higher Education. Slides from the University of Liverpool Learning and Teaching Conference 2009. In February 2009 the Centre for Higher Education Research and Information produced a report to HEFCE on student engagement in England. The study aimed to: * Determine the current extent and nature of student engagement in higher education in England; * Explore current models of formal and informal student engagement; * Explore institutions’ rationales for student engagement policies and practices, their measures of effectiveness, and perceptions of barriers to effectiveness; * Explore what institutions and sector bodies might learn from student engagement models operating in other countries Liverpool Guild of Students, on behalf of the University of Liverpool, was one of the case study organisations. This session will be used to create discussion about student engagement in learning and teaching issues at the University.

Midterm Student Feedback (MSF) is a win-win for faculty, students, and faculty developers. Instructors get valuable feedback on their teaching, students feel empowered, and faculty developers get a window into teaching practices on their campus, as well as consulting opportunities with faculty. MSF has been collected for decades in a variety of ways (SGID, TAP, QCD…). During this session, participants will discuss key aspects of the MSF process, including effective ways to advertise MSF services, conduct MSF surveys, and report MSF data to faculty. Also, what are pitfalls to avoid, and how can online tools make the process more efficient?
