2. TOPIC: PRIME NUMBERS TEACHING AIDS : 5 sets of 5 X 5 cm square cards with numbers from 1-100. TIME TAKEN : 5 minutes ACTIVITY : (Group Activity) STEP 1: Group the pupils into groups of 5. STEP 2: Teacher places the cards in each stations (A, B, C, D and E). A B C D E STEP 3: Pupils will select cards with PRIME NUMBERS only. STEP 4: Group with more prime number cards will win the game. Each mark will be deducted for each card with composite number. 3 5 7 2 13 11
3. TOPIC: SYMMETRY TEACHING AIDS : A4 paper, water colours, rulers and pencils. ACTIVITY ( Individual) STEP 1 : Give each pupil a piece of A4 paper. STEP 2 : Ask the pupil to select her/his favourite colours. STEP 3 : Ask the pupil to place the water colours in the middle of the paper. STEP 4 : Fold and press the paper together to make any designs. STEP 5 : Open up the papers and dry them in the class. STEP 6 : Draw a line in the middle of the paper to show that it is symmetrical.
4. TOPIC: SYMMETRY TEACHING AIDS : scissors, papers(In square shape,) pencils, ACTIVITY : (Individual) STEP 1 : Give each pupil a piece of paper (In square). STEP 2 : Ask the pupils to fold the paper into half and then fold another half and another half through diagonal line. STEP 3 : Ask the pupil to draw any design on the folded papers. STEP 4 : cut the unwanted area. STEP 5 : Open up the paper STEP 6 : Draw and count the lines of symmetry formed from her/his paper.
5. TOPIC: TESSELLATIONS TEACHING AIDS : Set of tangrams ( 2 or 3 or more shapes), A3 papers, colour pencils, pencils ACTIVITY : (Group Activity) STEP 1: Group the pupils into groups of 3 or 4. STEP 2: Teacher gives each group a set of tangrams, A3 paper some colour pencils. STEP 3: Let them work on tangrams to make different patterns. STEP 4: If they are satisfied with what they have done, they will draw the patterns that they have formed on the piece of A3 paper and colour the patterns. TEACHER WILL REMIND THEM THAT THEY SHOULDN’T BE ANY GAP IN BETWEEN THE SHAPES AND SHAPES MUST BE REPEATED.
6. TOPIC: POSITIONS AND DIRECTIONS TEACHING AIDS : Puzzle mats (Alphabets and numbers) ACTIVITY : (Group Activity) STEP 1: Group the pupils into groups of 5. STEP 2: Ask the pupils to arrange the puzzle mats on the floor. STEP 3: Ask one pupil to stand on one puzzle mat. Then, he will ask a question to the others. “What is my position?” STEP 4: His friends in his group will answer his question by telling his position. E.g. “Your position is A6.” STEP 5: Each of the pupils will take turns to do this activity. WE CAN ALSO USE THIS ACTIVITY TO TEACH DIRECTION !
7. TOPIC: POSITION AND DIRECTION TEACHING AIDS : A3 papers with grid lines drawn on it, small pictures from the magazines or newspapers, glues, pens. ACTIVITY : (Group activity) STEP 1: Teacher will group the pupils into groups of 4. STEP 2: Teacher will give each of the groups with a piece of A3 paper with the grid lines drawn on it, small pictures from the magazines, glue and a pen. STEP 3: First, teacher will show the work that she did to the pupils. STEP 4: Then, the pupils will start pasting the pictures on the A3 papers which has grid lines on it. (They can paste the pictures anyway they like on the grid lined paper.) STEP 5: They will then make 5 questions out of it to show the directions. E.g. of a question: What is the direction of the tree from the house ?
8. TOPIC: AVERAGE TEACHING AIDS : Cubes or sweets. ACTIVITY : (Group Activity) STEP 1: Group the pupils with different number of pupils in each group. STEP 2: Teacher gives each of them with different number of sweets or cubes. (Make sure that the number of cubes or sweets given can be divided equally.) STEP 3: Each pupil will count his/her sweets or cubes they have and they will write the number down on the paper. STEP 4: Then, each of the pupil in the group will put their cubes or sweets on the table and they will count the total number of cubes or sweets on the table. STEP 5: They will share the cubes or sweets between them equally. STEP 6: They will work out the problem on the piece of paper without using the cubes or sweets.
9. TOPIC: AVERAGE TEACHING AIDS : 5 beakers with different capacity of cordial, 1litre measuring cylinder. ACTIVITY : STEP 1: Group the pupils into groups of 5. STEP 2: Give each group with 5 beakers with different capacity of cordial. STEP 3: Ask the pupils to read and record the capacity of the cordial in each glass in the table provided. Step 4: Pupils pour all the cordial drink into a measuring cylinder and record its total. STEP 5: Pupils divide the cordial drink equally into the 5 beakers. STEP 6: Pupils record the capacity of cordial drink in each of the beakers. Beaker A Beaker B Breaker C Beaker D Beaker E CAPACITY TOTAL AVERAGE
10. TOPIC: LINE GRAPHS TEACHING AIDS : A3 papers with the grid drawn on it, set of tangrams, thin point markers, pieces of manila cards. ACTIVITY : STEP 1: Group the pupils into groups of 4 or 5. STEP 2: Teacher will give each group with a piece of A3 paper with the grid drawn on it, some shapes, thin point markers. STEP 3: Teacher will give instructions on how to do this activity. STEP 4: The pupils will count the number of each shapes and they will write down the number on a piece of paper. STEP 5: They will stick the A3 papers onto a manila card. STEP 6: They will write down the names of the shapes on the X-axis and numbers 1, 2 3 and so on on the Y-axis. STEP 7: They will plot the points on the grid paper and then they will draw a line to join all the points.
