2. Per capita annual consumption of cereal declined from apeak of about 171 kg in 1990-91 to 159 kg in 2005-06 ,indicating a decline of 13% in this period.

11. The primary household would be entitled to have 35 kg foodgrains per month at re1 /kg for millets ,rs 2/kg for wheat and rs3/kg for rice.

12. The general household would have a monthly entitlement of 20 kg at aprice not exceeding 50 % of the current msp.

14. India produces over 162 millin tones of fruits and vegetables , the cold storage facilities exist only for 12% of total produce this results in enormous loss due to waistage .

UP ,WEST BENGAL , PUNJAB together constitute about 71% of cold storage capacity of the country while their shares in total production of fruits .vegetablles is 12.83% and 36.06% while the southern states AP ,KARNATKA , TAMIL NADU constitute 31.66% ,in total fruit producing and 14.26% in vegetable production. Have only 5.31 % share in total cold storage facility of the country, while Gujarat and Maharashtra comprises of 28.42 % in fruit production possess only 7 % of total storage capacity.

16. About 55% of the consumers of the country draw their livelihood directly from agricultureas cultivators and agricultural labour.

17. Due to inadequate poor harvest infrastructure about 10% of the food grain produce (20 million) go on waste every year.

18. According to food minisrty’s annual report 2007-08 ,fci has space to store grains to the extent of 217.41 lakh tons (129.48 lakh tons owned and 87.33 lakh tones hired) while central warehousing corporation has space to store 193.42 lakh tons owned by it.
