24/11/10 – Lokman Chekki camera man/production assistant
Today we were visited by a production assistant who is also a professional camera man Lokman Chekki. He gave us an introduction and explained to us the development of analogue and digital cameras and all the technical elements behind it. We were also told that we had to include all this information into our power point on the history of record and to focus on the 'history of film' and include as much information as possible. Lokman discussed what we will need to focus on to create a music video and the process behind it.
-285750358140Camera Obscura – 17th century
Development of analogue and digital cameras
At the end of this process it is reflected upside down as an image but the problem was that they could not capture this image or record it. This invention was called Gelatime Silver by Dr Maddock.
19050181610Film Camera
1898 was the first screening of moving images by Lurmiee Brothers this was referred to the ‘birth of cinema’.
Later on the cameras became ‘digital’ that meant they were programmed to work automatically and used Binary language to work on their own (computerised to do it for you automatically).
First there was ‘mini DV’, DVD, CD and now SD Cards also known as memory cards. The most recent technology developed regarding camera recording id high definition cameras (HD). We then discussed the future for cinematographic recording such as 3D and 4D which was all about senses and feeling whilst watching a movie in the cinema and holograms.
Pre-Production
We then talked about pre production which is planning in terms of testing and preparation. Things like writing scripts or making storyboards list the events and scenes and have a thorough plan of the structure of the video. We had to think about angle shots, bright light (if any artificial light was necessary to use) and technical detail. Then had to focus on technical analysis such as how many people are required on set (human resources). We also have to think about technical resources like the camera equipment and props. We had to consider factors about equipment that we needed was available to for us to use or if it needed to be hired. We also had focused on what kind of props that we will need for the video and if it will be available for us or if we will need to hire it.
Budget - from the script we have to draw up a list of things that will cost money and compromise on script depending on the amount of your budget.
Music playback – play music when recording and the actors or performers are singing or dancing.
Venue
Book the venue if necessary
Back up location if there is public closure due to health and safety
Check for authorisation to record
Check the location day before the shooting
Actors or performer
Get parental permission if they under the age of 16
Make the actor sign a contract stating that the footage shot can be put up on the world wide web
Call Sheet – needs to include location address, map and a list of all the major people like director, producer and producer assistant or camera man.
Production
Health and safety check – do a risk assessment about location and filming.
Create a log to check what we have done and what needs to be done
Make sure there is continuity when filming so that there are no changes made when scene changes.
Post Production – Editing
Once you have finished all the shooting then the next process is to ‘digitize’.
Editing - first place everything in order (offline editing) and call the cuts. Then if you are including any special effect or animation put them in and then create a format photo shop and color change to enhance it.
Make sure to continuously save
