Julia de Burgos was a Puerto Rican poet who expressed her emotions through her writing without harsh words or violence. She grew up in a large family as the oldest child and had responsibility. After divorcing her first husband, she was looked down upon by society for breaking from marriage norms. She expressed every emotion from her heart through her pen. De Burgos was a role model because she did not care what others thought and lived her life as she wanted. Her experiences influenced her to become a poet and help others express their feelings positively. She will be remembered for her honesty and ability to express her thoughts, even when she went against societal expectations.
2. Why is she important? Julia de Burgos is a well known poet who took her life experiences and put them on paper She also made her emotions and feelings express themselves without harsh words or violence Due to her great success she won a prize from the institute of Puerto Rican Literature
3. What made her who she is today ? Julia grew up with 13 other siblings as the oldest she did have quite a responsibility After divorcing her first husband she had to be looked down upon because her society did not feel it was right for marriage to be broken You see all this in her writing , as she explains every emotion from her heart to her pen
4. “I do what I do” A major characteristic that makes Julia a role model is that she didn’t care what people thought of her She did what she thought was right and didn’t need someone to make decisions for her.
5. Low point One thing I do not think is one of Julia's best qualities is that she did not take what people said into consideration, which is both a good and bad thing since she didn’t take much input from others she went through some things she wouldn’t have had to if she would have listened to what others said Bitter song Nothing troubles my being, but I am sad.Something slow and dark strikes me,though just behind this agony,I have held the stars in my hand.
6. Julia changed lives Just looking at Ms. De Burgos poetry you see what she went through and how she over came society especially from growing up in a Puerto Rican culture She helps others use their feelings in a positive way
7. Will she be remembered I believe Julia will be remembered for her honesty and way of expressing her thoughts Even though she did let her society down she also made the life she wanted not what everyone else wanted
8. She teaches others I think that the harsh childhood she had made it easy for her to become a poet She shows others that you need to use what God gives you and use it to your advantage ,just as she did Also that the culture you have is the culture you have and you cant change that, you can only in brace it
9. My life and hers I think I take my life for granted because I see this girl who had to be looked down upon because she wanted to be happy ,but she took those experiences and used them to help her become just who she wanted to be
10. I learned…… That you need to use your own culture and not take it for granted to use it and to also do what you want to and not let others plan out your life for you
