3. ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY RUPEES. THAT
WAS ALL. AND TWENTY RUPEES of it was in
pennies. Pennies saved one and two at a time
by bulldozing the grocer and the vegetable
man and the butcher until one's cheeks
burned with the silent imputation of
parsimony that such close dealing implied.
Three times Ramu counted it. One hundred
and twenty rupees. And the next day would
be diwali.
4. • Raju, a 40-year old man, who was tall,
muscular, and remained frustrated most of
the time. He lived in the angrejpura society.
It was located in a city( a city which was
more of a village). He had a father suffering
from cancer, a mother, a loving
wife(rukmani) and a 14 year old son(Kedar).
Everyone in the family except Kedar were
illiterate. Kedar was in the 10th standard.
6. • The whole society was distraught. They were
troubled by the increasing electricity bills, the
increasing levels of pollution and decreasing
level of forests. Nobody in the society knew
the reason for this. Then one day when the bill
amount reached Rs. 2000 for a society where
the average income was Rs. 3000
7. • All the people in the society asked each other
and then they went to the electrical
department and asked them what the reason
was. They told them that the members were
increasingly dependent on electricity for their
needs. Then they asked different people that
what was the reason behind increasing
pollution. They got to know that the main
reason was their heavy dependence on coal
which released so much carbon dioxide in air.
8. THE MEMBERS OF THE SOCIETY
GOING TO THE ELECTRICAL
DEPARTMENT
9. • Another reason was the increasing number of
industries in their area. The secretary of the
society called for a meeting to decide what to
do to reduce the bills and pollution. A
meeting was called in the evening.
10. • Kedar had just finished revising the chapter
“sources of energy” for a test in school.
Suddenly, an idea struck his mind. He went to
the secretary’s house and gave him the idea.
The secretary was very happy after listening
to it. He took the suggestions of all the
people in the society but he liked kedar’s
suggestion.
11. • So, the next day they went to Mr.
Soorajmukhi to buy the necessary things and
work started in the society. No one was able
to understand what was happening. Kedar
explained everyone what was being setup.
He explained them it’s benefits.
MR. SOORAJMUKHI
12. • It was the SOLAR POWER PLANT. Everyone was
amazed after a few months. Their Electricity bills
went down from Rs. 2000 to Rs. 500. They were
too happy as the pollution levels also decreased.
According to everyone in the society solar
energy and the use of other alternative sources
should be increased and use of non renewable
sources like coal should be reduced. Now they
think that only this can save the world from
energy crisis. That’s because these sources are
clean, cheap and easy to use.
