The document discusses various land resources and issues related to land degradation. It defines land resources as the resources available from land, including agricultural land, underground water, and minerals. Land degradation is described as a process where human activities negatively impact the land. The key causes of land degradation mentioned are soil erosion and landslides. Soil erosion can be caused by water or wind and reduces the ability of the soil to support crop growth. Methods to conserve land resources and prevent degradation include terracing, planting wind breaks, and building sea walls.

3. WHAT ARE LAND
RESOURCES ?
*Land resources can be taken to mean the
resources available from the land. the
agricultural land, the underground water, the
various minerals like coal, bauxite, gold and
other raw materials. In a wider sense, land
resource can also mean the land available for
exploitation, like non agricultural lands for
buildings, developing townships etc.
5. *LAND DEGRADATION
*Land degradation is a
process in which the value
of the biophysical
environment is affected by a
combination of human-
induced processes acting
upon the land.
7. *SOIL EROSION
*This is a serious problem for people who want to
grow crops. If the soil has eroded, the crops will not grow
very well.
*Erosion also leaves large holes in the earth, which can
weaken buildings and even cause them to collapse.
8. *SOIL EROSION - CAUSES
*There are many different factors that can
cause soil erosion, most can be broken down
into two main categories:
*Erosion by Water
*Erosion by Wind
10. *CONSERVATION
*Planting wind breaks can be effective.
*Terrace farming can also be effective. People
can cut level sides into the side of hills to
create a place to grow crops.
*Groins (wooden planks) along the beaches, or
they could build sea walls against the cliffs.
12. *LANDSLIDES
*Landslides are the downward
movement of a slope composed of
earth materials such as rock, soil or
artificial fills. Landslides are also
called rock-slide, debris-slide, slump,
earth-flow or soil-creep.
*During construction of roads and
mining activities huge portions of
mountainous fragile areas are cut
down and thrown into adjacent areas
and streams. These land masses
weaken the already fragile mountain
slopes leading to man-induced
landslides.
