TOUR OPERATOR
The term tour operator is normally reserved for those
who are considered to be the most proffessionaland
having skills ,knowledge ,expertise, ideas etc.
Its an organization firm or a company who buys
individual travel components separately from their
suppliers and combines them into a package tour
which is sold to the public directly or through travel
agents examples; Thomas cook, cox and kings ,make
my trip.
 Tour operators are one who purchase separate
elements of tourism products and services and
combined them into a package tour and sell them
directly or indirectly to the tourists.

TYPES OF TOUR OPERATOR
INBOUND TOUR OPERATOR
OUT BOUND TOUR OPERATOR
DOMESTIC TOUR OPERATOR
GROUND TOUR OPERATOR
 INBOUND TOUR OPERATORS;
 Tour operators who deal and handle directly inbound
foreign tourists provides them various services on their
arrival and departure. Such as
Transportation,Accomodation,Sightseeing, forex, etc.
 OUT BOUND TOUR OPERATORS;
 Tour operators who specializes in designing and
promoting outbound tours to foreign destinations are
called as outbound tour operators, these tours can be
business tours leisure tours etc
 E.g.; group of Indian tourists going to Singapore Malaysia
Thailand is handed by Cox and kings.
 DOMESTIC TOUR OPERATORS;
 Domestic tour operator generally operates within the
boundary of a home country and cater the needs of
individual and group domestic tourists.
 GROUND TOUR OPERATORS ;
 It is also referred as “destination management
companies” handling agencies.
 Its main function is organize tour arrangements for
incoming tourists on behalf of foreign tour operators.
 Ground operator provides the service required by
large tour companies .where they don’t have local
branch office
DIFFEERENCE BETWEEEN TOUR OPERATOR AND
TRAVEL AGENCY
•TOUR OPERATOR
•They are called as
manufacturers of tourism
products as they assemble
individual travel components
separately from suppliers and
combines them into a package
tours.
•They generally operate on
wholesale level.
•They do bulk purchasing of
air tickets hotel rooms and
car rentals etc.
• TRAV EL AGENCY
•they may not be termed as
manufacturers. as they
generally sell tourism
products offered by tour
operators .
•They generally operate on
retail level.
•They are not involving in
bulk purchasing.
•TOUR OPERATOR
•They are specialized in
planning and opearations of
tours and are considered most
proffessionals having skills
and expertise.
•Amount of risk involved is
more as they do bulk
purchasing.
•Margin of commission is
more as they purchase in bulk
/large quantities.
•TRAV ELAGENCY
•They may not be termed as
any specialists .
•Amount of risk involved is
less as they donot do any bulk
purchasing.
•Margin of commission is less
as they don’t purchase in
bulk/large quantities…..
