2. Age rating
To follow my age rating of 15, I have to ensure that I don’t include many aspects which would go against the age rating. There are many restrictions such as what sort of theme my work can
have. In a 15 age rated film, aspects such as; strong violence, frequent strong language, portrayals of sexual activity, strong verbal references to sex, sexual nudity, brief scenes of sexual
violence, discriminatory language or behaviour, and finally, drug taking. This means I had to be careful within what I involved in my opening sequence, and due to the fact our genre was crime,
this meant we was allowed to use factors such as, violence within our sequence. For example, we used weapons as a form of protection and to get into the home, which portrayed strong
connotations of crime. The fact we used male characters in which were around the ages 16/17, this conveyed our target audience coming through our filming, attracting our audience of this
age.
From my research, I found that the age rating of our opening sequence shall be 15. This means that no person under 15 can purchase or view our opening sequence. This is due to the fact
specific aspects included within the filming may not be appropriate for a person under the age of 15. These factors may be scenes which include, frequent strong language, scenes of violence,
scenes of sexual activity, and strong verbal references to sex, sexual violence, and finally drug taking.
My perfect target audience member will be 15 years of age or above. My target audience shall be middle classed and will be in education. They can be from a range of different ethnicities and
regional identities. My specific target audience will be interested in crime and action, making them attracted to my opening sequence. They will like to be interested in a film to carry on
watching it, and like things which intrigue them and want them to watch more.
Furthermore, crime films such as Gone Girl, portray a 15 aged rated film, and include the suitable content in which should be included. For example, within the UK, the age rating is 15 using
BBFC, however in America, MPAA, Gone Girl is Rated R for a scene of bloody violence, some strong sexual content/nudity, and language.
3. My ideal target audience
member
This is my ideal audience member. This is due to the fact my
target audience is aimed at teenagers/ adults over the age of
15, as my age rating is 15 due to the content involved. This is
Tom, he is 19 years old, and listens to chart music. He watches
TV series’ such as prison break, and watches mainly crime films
such as ‘Seven’, ‘Heat’ and ‘The Godfather’. I have attracted
people like Tom to my opening sequence due to the fact my
opening sequence fits the crime genre perfectly, and intrigues
the audience, making them feel like they are really in the
position of the characters, sometimes sympathizing with them.
Additionally, people from the urban tribe may watch our
opening sequence due to the fact our sequence is a crime
genre, and this relates to urban areas due to it relating to inner
city, containing many influences. In the urban tribe, people in
this sector are best know for listening to grime, UK bass, and
rap music, getting behind new releases, and picking up digital
mix tapes, sharing them on various social networks.
