The Japanese attacked the US naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on December 7, 1941 using planes and mini submarines. Over 2,300 Americans were killed during the bombing, with many of the casualties occurring on the battleships USS Arizona and USS Oklahoma. The attack led the US to declare war on Japan and enter World War II.
