aspects.

Lots of recreation.
Climate
What makes the Hudson Plains one of Canada’s most popular wetlands
Climate

Poor drainage causes the Hudson to
      be a maritime climate.

      Precipitation ranges !om
      400-800mm of rain.

     Average Summer Temp: 11°c

     Average Winter Temp: -18°c
Geography, Geology & Biology
The physical nature of the Hudson Plains
Geography

The terrain is flat, one reason for
poor drainage.

90% of the ecozone is made up of
wetlands, remaining are bogs.
Geology

More sedimentary bedrock slopes
!om the Precambrian and
Palaeozoic Eras are found closer to
the Hudson Bay.
Geology

The soil is flat and covered by
perma!ost and ground ice.

This results in poor drainage.
Biology - Flora

Flora in the Hudson plains consists
of:

Ground hu%ing tundra and some
boreal forest

Vegetation in the Hudson plains in
very scarce
Biology - Fauna

Highest diversity of animals &
plants during summer.

Ranges !om insects to large
mammals.

Due to poor drainage, trees are more
found in higher altitudes.
