What are lipids
• Sneha vis‐à‐vis Lipids are a broad

• The Death is inevitable with the lack of
sneha in the body
– a cellular death or– a cellular death or

• Excess Unctuousness cause thinning of the
cell membrane & intiate the cytokins

Acchapana or Acchapeya
• It means – administering pure oil / ghee / muscleIt means  administering pure oil / ghee / muscle
fat / marrow, without mixing or processing it.
• It is the best way to administer fats –It is the best way to administer fats
– As it is edible in nature and commonly consumed even
in higher doses g
– As it serves the function of “fats”
– It spreads faster without disturbing the Disease state p g
– It evacuates only Dosha like Mlarupa Pitta evacuation

Standardization of Accha Snehapana
• To start with any snehapana we do require

Progression (Vrdhamana) method
• This calculation sometimes seems to be
problematic thus the progression method is used.
• It is simple addition of Hrasiyasi matra on every
day (25ml).
• With this the seven days subsequently the patient
receives – 25, 50, 75, 100, 125, 150, and 175 ml
of unction i.e. either Ghruta or Taila.

Procedure
• Ghruta or Taila murchna is a common practice. The murchana
means heating of the taila or Ghruta for de‐moistening (Patrapaka).
– There by the Ama dosha in Ghruta is nullified and the action is
facilitated.
• Most of the times the Sahapana is milk and Anupana is hot water.
– It makes initially rapid bile evacuation and when absorbed in
circulation the lipids conjugate with the Bio waste and dragcirculation the lipids conjugate with the Bio‐waste and drag
them in to body waste mechanism to let out of the body.
– The residual are brought in to koshta for elimination.
– Most of the time we misunderstand the Koshta as Gut but as
per Ayurveda, many organs are told as 15 Koshtanga are
considered for drastic elimination of the accumulated.

Pathya and Apathya in Snehapana
• Before Snehapana use of Drava Ushna AnabhisyandiBefore Snehapana, use of Drava, Ushna, Anabhisyandi,

• The utility of such type of pathya is that it prepares the
Agni for proper digestion and assimilation of Sneha
DDravyas.
• After administering Snehapana Ushna Udaka Upachara is
advised as it helps in the digestion of Snehaadvised as it helps in the digestion of Sneha
– The fat molecules are large in size and hence are hard to digest.
But it should be considered that lipids are hydrophilic in nature
