Acknowledgement
 I would like to extend my gratitude to my teacher Mr.
Vidur who gave me the golden opportunity to carry out
the survey.
 This wonderful project helped me in doing a lot of
research and I discovered a lot many new things.
 It gave me insights on womanhood and the sacrifice
they make, making me realize the importance of
women.
 I have wholeheartedly enjoyed the challenge of
examining and researching on the topic.
 I would also like to extend my sincerest thanks and
appreciation to those patient souls who helped me
accomplish this study and happily filled out the
questionnaires.
Objectives
 To understand the use of basic
Mathematics and Statistics in doing
real life survey.
 To know how priorities of women
change after marriage and the
sacrifices they make.
 To give a practical approach to
theoretical knowledge of graphs and
pie-charts.
Methodology
 I first decided to go with TWO surveys instead of
just one.
 Secondly, I made a questionnaire to know what
girls of modern era feel about health and other
important issues etc, and how women earlier felt
about the same thing so as to give a comparative
analysis.
 At the end, I have made a conclusion by collecting
all the results and presenting them in graphs to
give a more practical inference.
Introduction to Topic
 Woman was created as a companion for
man.
 But now we see woman as a second-
class citizen. We often see them
hopeless, destitute, wronged only
because this world has stopped giving
importance to the woman.
 With this project, we are trying at our
level to improve the status of women not
only in the eyes of men but also in their
own self.

Observations
 When it comes to visiting spas, beauty
parlors etc, % of women who
answered ‘good’ particular about
themselves has decreased from 13%
to 3% after marriage.
Possible reasons:
 Lack of time
 Feels no more relevant to visit such
places because they think it is of no
use because they are married.

Observations
 59% women feel that they do get ‘not much’ time for
themselves after marriage as compared to just 9%
before marriage.
 68% Women who answered they get ‘enough’ time for
themselves before marriage have been reduced to a
mere 25% after marriage.
Possible reasons:
 Household work
 Kids
 Husband
 Selfless concern for family (Respect!)

 9% women got little family support when
it came to accomplishment of self-
dreams which sadly increased to 28%
after marriage.
 19% women got very good family
support before marriage, later reduced to
3%.
Possible reasons:
 Stereotyped to do household work after
marriage.
 Cannot continue job or studying as per in
laws’ restrictions.

Observations
 Women have become more dependent
on their husbands to take their own
decisions with 59% women reporting that
they get ‘fair’ chance for making their
own decisions (which is bad) after
marriage as compared to 38% before
marriage.
Possible reasons:
 More of dependence on husband and in
laws.
 Have to take care of children’s need
before taking decisions.
Survey 2
 Now I will compare the ‘before
marriage’ data of married women
(referred to as Before 1990’s) with
females who are unmarried right now
(referred to as After 1990’s)!
 I will give inferences regarding if it is a
positive or a negative sign seeing the
trend.
 No calculations involved!

Changes in Women Perspective

  • 1. Building Mathematical Ability Project Presentation Efforts by: Tejas Arora Bachelor of Honours in Commerce Delhi College of Arts and Commerce
  • 2. Acknowledgement  I would like to extend my gratitude to my teacher Mr. Vidur who gave me the golden opportunity to carry out the survey.  This wonderful project helped me in doing a lot of research and I discovered a lot many new things.  It gave me insights on womanhood and the sacrifice they make, making me realize the importance of women.  I have wholeheartedly enjoyed the challenge of examining and researching on the topic.  I would also like to extend my sincerest thanks and appreciation to those patient souls who helped me accomplish this study and happily filled out the questionnaires.
  • 3. Objectives  To understand the use of basic Mathematics and Statistics in doing real life survey.  To know how priorities of women change after marriage and the sacrifices they make.  To give a practical approach to theoretical knowledge of graphs and pie-charts.
  • 4. Methodology  I first decided to go with TWO surveys instead of just one.  Secondly, I made a questionnaire to know what girls of modern era feel about health and other important issues etc, and how women earlier felt about the same thing so as to give a comparative analysis.  At the end, I have made a conclusion by collecting all the results and presenting them in graphs to give a more practical inference.
  • 5. Introduction to Topic  Woman was created as a companion for man.  But now we see woman as a second- class citizen. We often see them hopeless, destitute, wronged only because this world has stopped giving importance to the woman.  With this project, we are trying at our level to improve the status of women not only in the eyes of men but also in their own self.

  • 8. Health Consciousness (only food habits) Before Poor Fair Good Very Good Excellent After Poor Fair Good Very Good Excellent
  • 9. Observations  Degree of health consciousness has slightly increased with more women answering ‘fair’, and ‘very good’ after marriage. Possible Reasons:  Change in the mindset of women.  More aware.  More conscious about importance of health.
  • 10. How much particular were/are you about yourself? (spa, yoga) Before Poor Fair Good Very Good Excellent After Poor Fair Good Very Good Excellent
  • 11. Observations  When it comes to visiting spas, beauty parlors etc, % of women who answered ‘good’ particular about themselves has decreased from 13% to 3% after marriage. Possible reasons:  Lack of time  Feels no more relevant to visit such places because they think it is of no use because they are married.
  • 12. Did/Do you get enough time for yourself? Before Very less Not much Enough More than enough After Very less Not much Enough More than enough
  • 13. Observations  59% women feel that they do get ‘not much’ time for themselves after marriage as compared to just 9% before marriage.  68% Women who answered they get ‘enough’ time for themselves before marriage have been reduced to a mere 25% after marriage. Possible reasons:  Household work  Kids  Husband  Selfless concern for family (Respect!)  Split attention
  • 14. How much career oriented were/are you? Before Poor Fair Good Very Good Excellent After Poor Fair Good Very Good Excellent
  • 15. Observations  16% women were not inclined to career before marriage which later increased to 28%. Possible reasons  Many husbands don’t like their wives working after marriage.  Household work  Kids  Husband  Selfless concern for family (Respect!)  Split attention
  • 16. How much did/does your family support you in accomplishing your dreams? Before Poor Fair Good Very Good Excellent After Poor Fair Good Very Good Excellent
  • 17. Observations  9% women got little family support when it came to accomplishment of self- dreams which sadly increased to 28% after marriage.  19% women got very good family support before marriage, later reduced to 3%. Possible reasons:  Stereotyped to do household work after marriage.  Cannot continue job or studying as per in laws’ restrictions.
  • 18. What mattered/matters to you the most? Before Family Career Aspiration s After Family Career Aspiration s
  • 19. Observations  Aspirations reduced to NIL from 9% before marriage.  Family importance increased from 69% to 91% after marriage.
  • 20. How much did/do you depend on your family's income for self requirements? After Poor Fair Good Very Good Excellent Before Poor Fair Good Very Good Excellent
  • 21. Observations  Dependence on family income has increased from 9% to 16% after marriage.  At the same time, some women have become more dependent after than before as now 47% women depend more on the family’s income for self requirements.
  • 22. Level of time restraints? Before Poor Fair Good Very Good Excellent After Poor Fair Good Very Good Excellent
  • 23. Observations  Over the time, time constraints have been tightened for women with 63% women answering that they have ‘fair’ time constraints as compared to 50% before marriage.  Percentage of women who had ‘poor’ time constraints has decreased from 28% to 13%.
  • 24. Level of decision making? Before Poor Fair Good Very Good Excellent After Poor Fair Good Very Good Excellent
  • 25. Observations  Women have become more dependent on their husbands to take their own decisions with 59% women reporting that they get ‘fair’ chance for making their own decisions (which is bad) after marriage as compared to 38% before marriage. Possible reasons:  More of dependence on husband and in laws.  Have to take care of children’s need before taking decisions.
  • 26. Survey 2  Now I will compare the ‘before marriage’ data of married women (referred to as Before 1990’s) with females who are unmarried right now (referred to as After 1990’s)!  I will give inferences regarding if it is a positive or a negative sign seeing the trend.  No calculations involved!

  • 29. Observations  Only 2% girls want to get married by the age of 22, whereas 15% of the girls’ family want the same.  15% girls want to get married between the age of 22-24, whereas 36% girls’ family members want them to get married by 24 years.  43% girls want to get married between the age of 26-30 whereas a mere 11% family members want the same. Possible reasons:  Girls seem to have become more career oriented.  They want to become more self reliant.  Parents still have a traditional approach.
  • 30. Health Consciousness Before 1990’s Poor Fair Good Very Good Excellent After 1990’s Poor Fair Good Very Good Excellent
  • 31. Observations  From 13% in 1990’s, 33% girls have now reported that they have ‘good’ food habits.  ‘Very good’ habits tally has increased from 9% to 14%. Inference:  Girls are now becoming more health conscious in a decent way, which is a positive sign.
  • 32. How much particular were/are you about yourself? Before 1990’s Poor Fair Good Very Good Excellent After 1990’s Poor Fair Good Very Good Excellent
  • 33. Observations  35% girls answered that they do pay heed as much as it is required to become more particular about themselves as compared to 13% before 1990’s.
  • 34. Did/Do you get enough time for yourself? Before 1990’s Very less Not much Enough More than enough After 1990’s Very less Not much Enough More than enough
  • 35. Observations  From 13% back in 1990’s, it is now 40% girls who say they do not get enough time for themselves.  48% girls have to say that they get enough time for themselves now as compared to 68% girls back before 1990’s. Inference:  It is really not a positive sign.  If you don’t have time for yourself, it can lead to frustration.
