4. Pain - an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage or described in terms of such damage . Acute pain - pain that terminates or eases when conditions of illness terminate or surgical interventions heal, generally does not persist for more than a few days, even if it recurs.
