Getting a job at a Digital Marketing Agency is easy (more so if you have some experience) - you just need to show your skills whilst you're marketing yourself to your prospective employer. 8 tips which actually work.
1. How to get a job at a
Digital Marketing Agency.
THOMAS HAYNES. MAY 2015.
2. Don’t apply for jobs
80% of jobs aren’t advertised.
Most agencies are looking for their next hire even if they
aren't advertising. Recruiters cost money so bypass them
(sorry recruiters!).
Just get in contact – be proactive.
3. Contact the right person
Depending on the size of the agency this might be the
business owner, marketing manager or hr person.
Find this person on LinkedIn or pick up the phone.
4. Don't take no for an answer
Would they like you to do a free project?
Can you help them with anything?
Do they outsource work?
6. Improve yourself
Gain qualifications (Google AdWords, Squared Online, HubSpot
academy).
Set something up – blog, meetup, LinkedIn group – anything
which shows that you’re proactive.
7. Be honest about your skills
If you don't know how to do something say so.
Ask if there is anyone who could train you.
Say you’ll learn as much as you can before you start.
8. Market yourself
Use Twitter, about.me and LinkedIn.
Show that you're interested in recent developments and know how to
communicate well.
Don't want to spend time on LinkedIn or twitter? Someone else will.
9. Solve a problem
Why might the agency be looking to hire?
Do they have a skills gap or a resource gap? Play to your
strengths.
