This document summarizes the evolution of markets from small, disconnected groups to today's global, internet-connected world. Initially, people lived in small groups and word-of-mouth was the main way information spread locally. The development of television, newspapers, and national brands allowed information and mass marketing to reach larger populations. However, consumers still distrusted large companies' marketing claims. Today, the internet connects consumers worldwide, allowing word-of-mouth to spread rapidly. Small companies can now reach global audiences, while unsatisfied consumers can quickly disparage large brands online. Marketing must adapt to stay relevant in this new environment.
