Encouraging the search for Inventing better ways of doing things Appraising Turning  creativity into  innovation Working with groups of willing and creative practitioners to generate ideas for new courses and services, and for improving services and for cutting waste. Helping practitioners to develop, refine and work up the more viable ideas into simple costed proposals Creating a group of analytical people to appraise proposals and recommend those that need piloting Creating a strong pilot plan that takes account of stakeholders, resources and risks; a plan that takes on measurment and focuses on small cycles of change Ensuring that the pilot is well-run, often with coaching or mentoring for the project leader and has a senior champion to oversee it. Encouraging the search for Inventing better ways of doing things Appraising Turning creativity into innovation Working with groups of willing and creative practitioners to generate ideas for new courses and services, and for improving services and for cutting waste. Helping practitioners to develop, refine and work up the more viable ideas into simple costed proposals Creating a group of analytical people to appraise proposals and recommend those that need piloting Creating a strong pilot plan that takes account of stakeholders, resources and risks; a plan that takes on measurment and focuses on small cycles of change Ensuring that the pilot is well-run, often with coaching or mentoring for the project leader and has a senior champion to oversee it.   5. T Offer people the choice. “ Tell me how awful it is or sell me the problem eg quantify – costs and options and give me your best shot at solving it! “  
  6. We have all sorts of approaches
  7. N For instance we have spent years hearing people complain about college meetings
  8. T That was one example – meetings but In our experience it is not difficult to move staff and managers from negative to productive across the board
  9. These are just some of the 70 projects staff and first line managers worked on in one college in one year
  10. NICKY It ’s almost starting from challenging people to evaluate the problem – what’s the damage, what’s the impact.   This starts from the position of listening. Which immediately improves communication and trust.   It also enables your complaining staff to take ownership and to be the real expert of the problem, but also to research and find the solution

Don ’t forget the key points Ratio of winning ideas likely to save money to total ideas your staff are likely to come up with 1:20, 1:50, 1:100???   13. As we have said – good ideas are not enough Point – cant afford to pass up on opportunities to not just gather ideas but also sort them
