3. Why both Indeed & SimplyHired?
Like any search engine, there's some but not total overlap
in the results between the two. Use both to give yourself a
better picture of the job market as it relates to you.

4. What you need to land the job
Certifications?
A four-year degree?
Three-to-five years of experience?
Ability to say it to someone non-technical
Ability to write it simply
Ability to network live and virtually
Good interviewing skills

5. You can’t get there from here
Sneaky ways to get the requisite experience that
you can’t get unless you have the requisite
experience (!) include working on Open
Source projects, volunteering, and taking
desk support jobs where Linux is in use.

6. Please don’t force me to use
Windows!
Identifying a company friendly to mixed,
integrated environment is a matter of talking
to people who work (or, better yet, have
worked) there.

7. Meritocracies Preferred
Use network connections or research online
to learn more about whether a company is
ethical and does not use technologies "just
because."
Is it an ethical company?
“Why do we use Java? We just do. It’s what’s used right
now.”
