Do you believe that the United States should commit to the
Paris Agreement? What arguments most influenced your
decision?
The Paris agreement also referred to as the Paris climate
agreement is an agreement made to reduce the level of climate
change in the lobe today by mitigating the level of greenhouse
gases that are emitted across the globe (Klein, Carazo, Doelle,
Bulmer & Higham, 2017). However, the United States under the
rule of Donald Trump expressed their intentions to leave this
agreement in June this year. In this section will look at the
reasons why the United States needs to stay committed to the
agreement.
I believe that the United States needs to stay committed to this
agreement for one major reason. This is because this agreement
will help push the country to better and more effective climate
change policies. Research in the United States shows that the
policies that the country has put in place to control climate
change greatly fall short of the Paris agreement requirements.
This is because they have not been very effective in mitigating
the level of greenhouse gases.
Without a commitment to this agreement, the policies that are in
place in the United States show less commitment to climate
change, and it is for this reason that the country has continued
to suffer a lot of great natural disasters year after year. Staying
committed to the Paris agreement is a good thing for the country
since it will force them to be more, dedicated, more committed
and also effective in fighting climate changes. The agreement
will push them to do this by forcing them to put in place new
measures to curb greenhouse emissions, and this is better for
everyone in the globe and the country.
Do you believe that we will experience significant global
warming during this century due to air pollution?
Yes, the emission of the greenhouse gases is the single leading
cause of global warming. This is as a result of emission of more
greenhouse gases for example from the burning of fuel will
continue to make to worsen the state of global warming by
trapping more and more heat from the sun. This will especially
be the case in the current century since there is a rapidly
growing demand for energy 80% of which is being derived from
fossil fuel which leads to the emission of more and more
greenhouse gases into the atmosphere (Schneider, 1998).
In what way would the Paris Agreement impact your position on
global warming?
First, the Paris agreement affirms the fact that global warming
is a major world problem today. This is the reason why many
world leaders were willing to be part of this agreement. Further,
the Paris agreement affirms to me that ending global warming is
not a one-man war there is the need for countries to come
together and fight together since this is a problem that
collectively affects every individual across the globe (Klein,
Carazo, Doelle, Bulmer & Higham, 2017). In general, this
agreement simply confirms my position in the fact that global
warming is a serious global problem that can only be solved
through collaborative effort.
What is the effect of global warming on the Earth's water
resources?
There is no doubt that global warming has a very significant
impact on the world’s water resources. This is because global
warming simply results in rising earth temperatures and this
consequently leads to greater levels of water evaporation from
the various water sources. The result of this is shortages of
water resources across the globe and in extreme cases the
drying up of water resources leading to drought (Shrestha,
Babel & Pandey, 2014).

Construction of the National Energy Policy
In the present day world, non-renewable energy has been
heavily utilized as an ultimate source of energy both in for
domestic and industrial use. Although the prospecting of energy
has proven to be well-organized in the manufacturing of energy,
the perpetual utilization of fossil fuels keeps posing a danger to
the future generations as well as to the environment. The 2007
Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) research
well indicated that the continuous emission of Green House Gas
by the numerous industries across the globe have increased by a
significant degree in the atmosphere. This trend has no doubt
posed an imminent threat to the environment since the
accumulation of hydro chlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) in the
atmosphere has reached the alarming proportions as compared
to the previous research, which was conducted way back in
1996 (Making National Energy Policy, 2017). It is for these
worrying symptoms that there dire need for a national energy
policy arises to orchestrate the manufacturing and utilization of
renewable energy; solar, hydro, thermal as opposed to non-
renewable sources of power; which entails oil, coal and natural
gas.
How to construct this policy
The National Energy Policy will be concerned with the creating
mechanisms to process or rather establish the sources of energy,
which are essentially environmentally friendly and which would
still be moderate on the gross domestic product (GDP). The best
example is displayed by the government of the United Kingdom
(UK), which recently proposed the adoption of Photovoltaic
innovation to be converting solar energy into electric energy for
domestic and industrial usage (Anger, Zannier & Centre for
European Policy Studies (Brussels, Belgium), 2017). This
initiative has proven to be brilliant idea, which most
manufacturing industries in particular must embrace as solar
energy is renewable and freely available at each person’s
disposal. Above all, this form of energy is overly friendly with
the environmental and is not associated with any health threats
to the users.
There is every need therefore, for the government to select wind
and solar power energy as sources of renewable energy. In the
new National Energy Policy, the government is required to
exhaustively deliberate upon the effects of perpetual utilization
of the non-renewable energy, not just to the environment alone,
but also to individual health. The government should work with
speed to launch a policy mechanism through the Energy Saving
Trust to begin effecting the proposed changes as soon as
possible. This mechanism should be designed to accelerate
investment in energy technologies that are renewable across the
nation. Consequently, people who are committed to the task of
generating their own green or renewable energy should be
reimbursed for embracing the policies that would be stipulated
by the Renewables Obligation Scheme (ROS). The scheme will
as well as outline conditions that are supposed to be heeded by
their respective clients regarding the safe use of the energy in
place (Smil, 2017). The conditions should comprise the ultimate
use of products and installers who are duly certified by the
scheme of Micro-Generation Certification and thereby
possessing a certificate of Energy Perforce that ought to rate
above grade D. the moment the producer of this type of energy
is able to comply with the afore mentioned conditions, the ROS
will then be under obligation to advance the clean Energy Cash-
back of any choice to serve as a subsidy to the energy
generators.
CONCLUSION
Renewable sources of energy have a low impact on the
environment. This is the reason why most households should be
encouraged to embrace them as described in the National
Energy Act (NEA) and reiterated in the Public Utility
Regulatory Policies Act (PURPA). Based on the stipulated
regulations in these Acts, domestic and industrial energy
consumers across the country are encouraged to recycle
materials, which are possibly recyclable instead of sending them
to landfills for disposal. Furthermore, the society needs to learn
to participate in recycling programs, which often provide trash-
bins as they educate the society in matters of green energy
generation as well as usage.

Genetically Modified Organism (GMOs)
Genetically modified organism (GMOs) involving animals and
plants whose genetic composition has been altered scientifically
have elicited prolonged debates among various stakeholders.
Varying arguments ranging from environmental, political,
health and economic issues has been advanced both in support
and against the use of GMOs. In this paper, I will discuss my
view about GMOs whether they are safe to be used or not and
whether it should be labeled in foods. Besides, I will explain
how GMOs has affected the world today.
Safety of GMOs
I believe GMOs are safe for human consumption just like non-
genetic engineered organisms. As demonstrated by The US
National Academy of Sciences GMOs does not pose any adverse
environmental impacts or any potential harm to human health
(Colson, 2017). Instead, it has been proven as resistance to
common pests, and as such it has decreased the use of
pesticides. This scientific body further observed that GMOs are
safe because billion of meals served indicate no adverse health
effects have been reported. After it was officially certified for
human consumption, no single case of potential harm has been
documented.
Genetically engineered crops are safe for the environment and
do not cause any threats when compared to non-genetically
engineered crops. For instance, in 2010 a report published by
The National Academy of Sciences found that genetically
modified crops planted in the United States recorded reduced
use of the most dangerous herbicides, reduced insecticide use,
reduced carbon emissions, improved soil quality, increased the
frequency of conservation tillage and no-till farming and
reduced soil runoffs (Colson, 2017). According to this report, it
became apparent that GMOs conventionally cause fewer adverse
environmental effects than non-genetically engineered crops.
Labelling GMOs in Foods
Since GMOs are safe and pose no potential threats both to
humans and the environment, I believe GMO foods should be
labeled. This is not for safety concerns, but it should be labeled
to help consumers differentiate between genetically and non-
genetically engineered foods (Colson, 2017). The prevailing
view by most companies that labeling their products might
illicit stigmatization of these products among the consumers is
unfounded because scientifically it has been proven to be safe.
By labeling GMO foods, consumers’ rights are respected.
Since consumers have different preferences of products in the
market, their concerns will be taken care of when products are
labeled as either natural products or genetically engineered
products. Besides, consumers have a right to know what they
are eating, and as such companies should indicate full detail
about the content of their products.
Impact of GMOs in the World Today
GMOs has revolutionized and transformed the world today.
Since it was first adopted in larger scale, GMO products have
more than doubled the production of foods worldwide. As
indicated by The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the
UN body involved with global food security, the growing human
population cannot be sustained any further by traditional means
of food production if no alternatives ways are not bringing on
board (Žel et al., 2012). In its report, FAO estimates that by
2050 the world requires the production of about seventy percent
more food than the current production rate to avert potential
food insecurity expected due to increased human population.
Therefore the increased food production levels brought about by
the use of GMOs has significantly improved global food
production levels. Hence shift to GMOs products is expected to
be the best solution of food insecurity going into the future.

Deforestation
Cutting down of trees has affected the environment in extreme
ways that one could have never imagined. Many of the problems
we are experiencing at the moment could have been avoided
long ago if only we took good care of our environment.
Cutting down of trees has been as a result of economic activities
being carried out such as selling of timber and also due to the
currently increasing population where people have to create
more space to settle down with their families and livestock as
well.
When I recall the past years when I was just a little girl, I did
enjoy spending time upcountry. When schools closed, we would
all gather up the country. We would enjoy much of what Mother
Nature provided by taking walks down the river and sometimes
even swimming in the river. We could also climb trees and eat
fruits the nature provided. I remember with nostalgia, other
times we could go collect firewood for our grandparents as we
played along the way with the leaves of the trees. We could
shape the leaves like a fan then use a stick to propel it into the
air as we ran so the leaves would spin like a fan.
As I grew up, I realized that some of the things I could enjoy
were no longer available as time went by. Rivers dried up,
forests, where we could collect firewood, are now replaced with
massive buildings with all kinds of activities going on. The
once silent and peaceful atmosphere is now replaced with all
kinds of annoying noises. As much as this is not pleasing. There
are some reasons as to why the situation had to turn out that
way.

Economic reasons led to cutting down on trees. Timber is used
for building and construction whereas charcoal is burnt for
cooking purposes.
As much as the economic factor should be considered, I feel
that we could still reduce the impact caused by cutting down
trees if some measures were taken such as planting trees for
replacing the ones that have been cut down.
Increasing population which leads to increase in demand for
land for settling and farming. People are always looking for
favorable places to settle down with their families. This may be
due to many reasons such displacement due to floods, drought,
war and such.
I feel that when people settle in a place, it is their duty to
conserve the environment by methods such as proper disposal of
waste which if not taken care of, will affect the waters an also
the land where they yield their plants. Also, they should make
sure as they displace the wildlife, to create a place where they
can cohabitate so as not to displace them.
I believe that as much as some unavoidable circumstances
would cause cutting down of trees, there are still some ways
that we can conserve the environment. For instance, if the cut
one plant two rule is implemented, we will be able to continue
enjoying nature’s providence, and also the wildlife will be
catered for as well.
The government and the non-governmental organizations in
charge of the environment should ensure strict measures are
implemented and adhered to in relations to the environment.
Individuals should also take part with or without the supervision
of the authorities by taking initiatives themselves as a
community in order to ensure our environment is well
preserved.

The Paris agreement also referred to as the Paris climate agreement is an agreement made to reduce the level of climate change in the lobe today by mitigating the level of greenhouse gases that are emitted across the globe (Klein, Carazo, Doelle, Bulmer & Higham, 2017). However, the United States under the rule of Donald Trump expressed their intentions to leave this agreement in June this year. In this section will look at the reasons why the United States needs to stay committed to the agreement. I believe that the United States needs to stay committed to this agreement for one major reason. This is because this agreement will help push the country to better and more effective climate change policies. Research in the United States shows that the policies that the country has put in place to control climate change greatly fall short of the Paris agreement requirements. This is because they have not been very effective in mitigating the level of greenhouse gases. Without a commitment to this agreement, the policies that are in place in the United States show less commitment to climate change, and it is for this reason that the country has continued to suffer a lot of great natural disasters year after year. Staying committed to the Paris agreement is a good thing for the country since it will force them to be more, dedicated, more committed and also effective in fighting climate changes. The agreement will push them to do this by forcing them to put in place new measures to curb greenhouse emissions, and this is better for everyone in the globe and the country. Do you believe that we will experience significant global warming during this century due to air pollution? Yes, the emission of the greenhouse gases is the single leading

This is as a result of emission of more greenhouse gases for example from the burning of fuel will continue to make to worsen the state of global warming by trapping more and more heat from the sun. This will especially be the case in the current century since there is a rapidly growing demand for energy 80% of which is being derived from fossil fuel which leads to the emission of more and more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere (Schneider, 1998). In what way would the Paris Agreement impact your position on global warming? First, the Paris agreement affirms the fact that global warming is a major world problem today. This is the reason why many world leaders were willing to be part of this agreement. Further, the Paris agreement affirms to me that ending global warming is not a one-man war there is the need for countries to come together and fight together since this is a problem that collectively affects every individual across the globe (Klein, Carazo, Doelle, Bulmer & Higham, 2017). In general, this agreement simply confirms my position in the fact that global warming is a serious global problem that can only be solved through collaborative effort. What is the effect of global warming on the Earth's water resources? There is no doubt that global warming has a very significant impact on the world’s water resources. This is because global warming simply results in rising earth temperatures and this consequently leads to greater levels of water evaporation from the various water sources. The result of this is shortages of water resources across the globe and in extreme cases the drying up of water resources leading to drought (Shrestha, Babel & Pandey, 2014). References

Although the prospecting of energy has proven to be well-organized in the manufacturing of energy, the perpetual utilization of fossil fuels keeps posing a danger to the future generations as well as to the environment. The 2007 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) research well indicated that the continuous emission of Green House Gas by the numerous industries across the globe have increased by a significant degree in the atmosphere. This trend has no doubt posed an imminent threat to the environment since the accumulation of hydro chlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) in the atmosphere has reached the alarming proportions as compared to the previous research, which was conducted way back in 1996 (Making National Energy Policy, 2017). It is for these worrying symptoms that there dire need for a national energy policy arises to orchestrate the manufacturing and utilization of renewable energy; solar, hydro, thermal as opposed to non- renewable sources of power; which entails oil, coal and natural gas. How to construct this policy The National Energy Policy will be concerned with the creating mechanisms to process or rather establish the sources of energy, which are essentially environmentally friendly and which would still be moderate on the gross domestic product (GDP). The best example is displayed by the government of the United Kingdom (UK), which recently proposed the adoption of Photovoltaic innovation to be converting solar energy into electric energy for domestic and industrial usage (Anger, Zannier & Centre for European Policy Studies (Brussels, Belgium), 2017). This initiative has proven to be brilliant idea, which most manufacturing industries in particular must embrace as solar energy is renewable and freely available at each person’s disposal. Above all, this form of energy is overly friendly with the environmental and is not associated with any health threats to the users.
  • 6. There is every need therefore, for the government to select wind and solar power energy as sources of renewable energy. In the new National Energy Policy, the government is required to exhaustively deliberate upon the effects of perpetual utilization of the non-renewable energy, not just to the environment alone, but also to individual health. The government should work with speed to launch a policy mechanism through the Energy Saving Trust to begin effecting the proposed changes as soon as possible. This mechanism should be designed to accelerate investment in energy technologies that are renewable across the nation. Consequently, people who are committed to the task of generating their own green or renewable energy should be reimbursed for embracing the policies that would be stipulated by the Renewables Obligation Scheme (ROS). The scheme will as well as outline conditions that are supposed to be heeded by their respective clients regarding the safe use of the energy in place (Smil, 2017). The conditions should comprise the ultimate use of products and installers who are duly certified by the scheme of Micro-Generation Certification and thereby possessing a certificate of Energy Perforce that ought to rate above grade D. the moment the producer of this type of energy is able to comply with the afore mentioned conditions, the ROS will then be under obligation to advance the clean Energy Cash- back of any choice to serve as a subsidy to the energy generators. CONCLUSION Renewable sources of energy have a low impact on the environment.   • 11. view about GMOs whether they are safe to be used or not and whether it should be labeled in foods. Besides, I will explain how GMOs has affected the world today. Safety of GMOs I believe GMOs are safe for human consumption just like non- genetic engineered organisms. As demonstrated by The US National Academy of Sciences GMOs does not pose any adverse environmental impacts or any potential harm to human health (Colson, 2017). Instead, it has been proven as resistance to common pests, and as such it has decreased the use of pesticides. This scientific body further observed that GMOs are safe because billion of meals served indicate no adverse health effects have been reported. After it was officially certified for human consumption, no single case of potential harm has been documented. Genetically engineered crops are safe for the environment and do not cause any threats when compared to non-genetically engineered crops. For instance, in 2010 a report published by The National Academy of Sciences found that genetically modified crops planted in the United States recorded reduced use of the most dangerous herbicides, reduced insecticide use, reduced carbon emissions, improved soil quality, increased the frequency of conservation tillage and no-till farming and reduced soil runoffs (Colson, 2017). According to this report, it became apparent that GMOs conventionally cause fewer adverse environmental effects than non-genetically engineered crops. Labelling GMOs in Foods Since GMOs are safe and pose no potential threats both to humans and the environment, I believe GMO foods should be labeled. This is not for safety concerns, but it should be labeled to help consumers differentiate between genetically and non- genetically engineered foods (Colson, 2017). The prevailing view by most companies that labeling their products might illicit stigmatization of these products among the consumers is unfounded because scientifically it has been proven to be safe. By labeling GMO foods, consumers’ rights are respected.

Since consumers have different preferences of products in the market, their concerns will be taken care of when products are labeled as either natural products or genetically engineered products. Besides, consumers have a right to know what they are eating, and as such companies should indicate full detail about the content of their products. Impact of GMOs in the World Today GMOs has revolutionized and transformed the world today. Since it was first adopted in larger scale, GMO products have more than doubled the production of foods worldwide. As indicated by The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the UN body involved with global food security, the growing human population cannot be sustained any further by traditional means of food production if no alternatives ways are not bringing on board (Žel et al., 2012). In its report, FAO estimates that by 2050 the world requires the production of about seventy percent more food than the current production rate to avert potential food insecurity expected due to increased human population. Therefore the increased food production levels brought about by the use of GMOs has significantly improved global food production levels. Hence shift to GMOs products is expected to be the best solution of food insecurity going into the future.

  • 14. we are experiencing at the moment could have been avoided long ago if only we took good care of our environment. Cutting down of trees has been as a result of economic activities being carried out such as selling of timber and also due to the currently increasing population where people have to create more space to settle down with their families and livestock as well. When I recall the past years when I was just a little girl, I did enjoy spending time upcountry. When schools closed, we would all gather up the country. We would enjoy much of what Mother Nature provided by taking walks down the river and sometimes even swimming in the river. We could also climb trees and eat fruits the nature provided. I remember with nostalgia, other times we could go collect firewood for our grandparents as we played along the way with the leaves of the trees. We could shape the leaves like a fan then use a stick to propel it into the air as we ran so the leaves would spin like a fan. As I grew up, I realized that some of the things I could enjoy were no longer available as time went by. Rivers dried up, forests, where we could collect firewood, are now replaced with massive buildings with all kinds of activities going on. The once silent and peaceful atmosphere is now replaced with all kinds of annoying noises. As much as this is not pleasing. There are some reasons as to why the situation had to turn out that way. Side 1 (facts) Side 2 (arguments) Economic reasons led to cutting down on trees. Timber is used for building and construction whereas charcoal is burnt for cooking purposes. As much as the economic factor should be considered, I feel that we could still reduce the impact caused by cutting down trees if some measures were taken such as planting trees for
  • 15. replacing the ones that have been cut down. Increasing population which leads to increase in demand for land for settling and farming. People are always looking for favorable places to settle down with their families. This may be due to many reasons such displacement due to floods, drought, war and such. I feel that when people settle in a place, it is their duty to conserve the environment by methods such as proper disposal of waste which if not taken care of, will affect the waters an also the land where they yield their plants. Also, they should make sure as they displace the wildlife, to create a place where they can cohabitate so as not to displace them. I believe that as much as some unavoidable circumstances would cause cutting down of trees, there are still some ways that we can conserve the environment. For instance, if the cut one plant two rule is implemented, we will be able to continue enjoying nature’s providence, and also the wildlife will be catered for as well. The government and the non-governmental organizations in charge of the environment should ensure strict measures are implemented and adhered to in relations to the environment. Individuals should also take part with or without the supervision of the authorities by taking initiatives themselves as a community in order to ensure our environment is well preserved.
