- PLEs rely on Information Systems and thus in IS elements
- Some PLEs depend on information systems based on web applications
- As such, they depend on the availability of those applications
- Different apps have different approaches, support, longevity
- What happens when one of those pieces disappears?
- Case: my PLE 4 years ago Still here: Twitter, Facebook, Google Drive, Netvibes, delicious Not here anymore: Google Reader, Flock Others: Jooce, G.ho.st, New: feedl
- Some services that were part of my PLE and have since closed or disappeared
- Some services that my students used, but were not part of my own PLE – also gone

- Learn to learn how to use software as opposed to learn how to use software approach
- Show families instead of just one specific tool
- Show families instead of focusing on one tool – the community platform example
- Provide alternatives and show connections
- Accept that change is inherent to PLEs
- Rely on your PLN!
