2. Wright County Schools The following photos are of the Wright County country schools still standing in the Spring of 2011. Note, this is only a partial list.
4. Crewes #36 Crewes School #36, Sec.8 T30 R12, located northeast of Graff. From Hartville take Hwy. 38 east approximately 14.5 miles to Crewes Road, .5 mile east of Graff, north on Crewes Road .75 mile on the east side. After the school closed it was sold. The family owning the school have remodeled and added on to the original structure making a very comfortable home. They also attended this school as youngsters.
6. Fairview School #94 Fairview School #94, Sec.19 T28 R13, located in the southeast corner of Wright County. From Norwood take Hwy.C 2 miles south to Art Kelly Road, east .5 mile to Royal Road, continue east on Royal Road .5 mile to turn in road on the left(northwest corner). The building is on private property, presently vacant and falling into disrepair.
8. Flat Rock #88 Flat Rock School #88, Sec.29 T28 R15, located in the southwest corner of Wright County 1.5 miles south of Mansfield on Hwy. 5 to Slate Lane, west and south .5 mile on the west side. After closing in the early fifties it was sold. Since then it has been converted to a residence and remodeled recently making a very nice home.
10. Lone Star #98 Lone Star School #98, Sec.20 T28 R12, located in the extreme southeast corner of Wright County 1 mile south of the Mt. Grove city limits on Hwy. 95 at the intersection of Sunny Slope Road on the southwest corner. One of the few cement block country school buildings it is in good condition, is privately owned and used for storage.
12. Mansfield Mansfield School is located in the town of Mansfield on East Commercial Street 1 block east of the business district on the north side. It was the first school building in Mansfield built in 1883. It was a two room structure and in 1887 there were 142 students. In 1891 it was replaced by a larger four room school on the hill. I was unable to find a District number.
14. New Grove #46 New Grove School #46, Sec, 3 T29 R16, located on the west side of Wright County on Hwy. F, 2 miles north of the intersection of Hwy. V on the east side. It has been well maintained and is a private residence.
16. Oetting School #70 Oetting School #70, Sec. 27 T29 R15, located on Hwy. 5 between Hartville and Mansfield. From Hartville, south on Hwy. 5 approximately 6.4 miles at the intersection of Hwy. AB on the northeast corner. From Mansfield, north on Hwy 5 approximately 3.75 miles to intersection of AB on the northeast corner. This is a beautiful rock building built in 1930 by the WPA. It closed in 1949, was used as a community center and later sold for a private residence.
18. Pea Ridge #64 Pea Ridge School #64, Sec. 13 T29 R16, located on Hwy. V, 5.6 miles west of the intersection of Hwy. 5 which is 2.5 miles south of Hartville. It is on the southwest corner of Hwy. V and Quail Drive. This was one of the few schools to have a hot lunch program. The room added on the west side was the kitchen. It is now a private residence and home to a very nice lady and her pets.
20. Pleasant Hill #95 Also known as Spotted Hog, Pleasant Hill School #95, Sec. 27 T28 R13, located in the southeast corner of Wright County. From Mt. Grove city limits take Hwy. 95 south 2 miles to Hwy. ZZ. West 4 miles to Cherokee Road, at sharp turn. West on Cherokee Road .25 mile to Spotted Hog Road. It is .25 mile .south on Spotted Hog Road on the left side. This beautiful rock building was built in 1929 and has been well maintained. It is presently used as a church. It has been added to on the west side in recent years for needed space.
22. Spence #82 Spence School #82, Sec. 11 T28 R15, Located northeast of Mansfield on the Old Springfield Road. From Mansfield take Hwy. 5 about .3 mile north to intersection of Old Springfield Road and take it east approximately 2.6 miles on the south side. This poor old school building is still waiting for a teacher and students with the blackboard stiil on the wall. In it's sad condition it will not be here much longer. It is on private property
24. Tharp #72 Tharp School #72, Sec. 28 T29 R14, located in south central Wright County. From Macomb take Hwy. E north3.5 miles to Tharp School Road and turn east .5 mile to Fox Hollow Road. It is on the northwest corner. It is presently the Peace Valley Church and has been very well maintained.

26. This survey was made of the rural schools in Wright County, Missouri, conducted in 2011. Where some structure remained on the sites and owners gave permission, we have photos of the structures. When the schools were consolidated, they were sold. Some are homes, churches or community buildings if they are habitable. Many are on private property. When you are searching for school locations, please remember to respect private property and ownership. Ask for permission before entering private property.
