AEMAS National Launching Conference
Conference of AEMAS
AEMAS was successfuly launched in the following ASEAN Member States (AMS):
Malaysia Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. Each launching conference was graciously
opened by a high ranking government official in charge of energy efficiency and conservation

Highlights of the launch were the awarding of the AEMAS Energy Management Gold
Standard (EMGS) 1-star certificate to University Technology Malaysia (UTM) and TELKOM
Malaysia Research and Development (TMRD). These two institutions were certified because they
already have an energy management system according to ISO 50001, budget allocation for energy
efficiency measures, procurement policy and internal investment criteria which favors energy
efficient technologies, motivation plan for personnel involved in energy management system and
an AEMAS Certified Energy Manager.
The national launch of AEMAS in Malaysia was organized by Green Technology
Corporation of Malaysia (GreenTech Malaysia) in collaboration with the Malaysian Energy
Professionals Association (MEPA). The national launching conference in Malaysia was opened
by a video made specifically for AEMAS by GreenTech Malaysia. The video available at the

2. Philippines
AEMAS was successfully launched on August 26, 2011 at the New World Hotel, Makati City,
Philippines. The event was attended by Her Excellency, Undersecretary of the Department of
Energy, Ms. Loreta G. Ayson. The Philippine launch was opened with flag ceremony performed
by the University of Santo Tomas Honor Guards.
The national launch of AEMAS drew a wide array of guests from the energy efficiency field
in the Philippines, with representatives from the Visayas and Mindanao region. The participants
numbered more than150 energy efficiency practitioners and advocates, expressing their total
support to the AEMAS initiative of achieving a sustainable energy management system.

The highlights of the launch were the awarding of the Energy Management Gold Standard
1-star certificate to 3 companies, 75 Certified Energy Managers, 25 Local Trainers and 2 Country
Experts. The three companies awarded the Energy Management Gold Standard 1 star certificate
are Texas Instruments Phils. Inc., Toshiba Information Equipment Phils. Inc., and San Miguel
Yamamura Packaging Corporation.
The launch was concluded by signing a Memorandum of Agreement between AEMAS
Philippines and AEMAS National Council Members and was organized by ENPAP.
Thailand
The Launching Conference of AEMAS in Thailand was held with great success at the
Conrad Hotel, Bangkok, on Thursday, 15 September 2011. More than 70 persons attended the
event composed of the following:
• Energy specialists
• Managers of energy intensive organizations
• Staff of energy intensive organizations
• Members of the press / media companies
• Energy efficient equipment suppliers, distributors and manufacturers
• Auditing companies / companies conducting certification
• Representatives of academic institutions and student
Highlights during the conference were the awarding of certificates to Thailand’s first AEMAS
certified energy managers and local trainers by Dr. Hardiv Harris Situmeang, ACE Executive
Director. His Excellency, Mr. Krairit Nilkuha, Director General of the Department of Alternative
Energy Development and Efficiency (DEDE) of Thailand delivered the welcome remarks.
3. Most participants have provided very positive
feedback, expressing high satisfaction, and
strong interest to join the AEMAS scheme.
The conference was organized by CDC-SEA
and also included the presentation by
Charoen Pokphand Foods PCL (CPF), one of
the first Thai companies to apply for the
Energy Management Gold Standard.

Vietnam
AEMAS was successfully launched in Vietnam held at the Sofitel Plaza Hotel in Hanoi on
21 October 2011. The Launching Conference was attended by more than 60 participants coming
from both the government and private sector. The welcome remarks was delivered by His
Excellency Mr. Phan Cong Hop, Deputy Director General of Science and Technology Department
under the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) of Vietnam.

The highlight of the launch was the awarding of certificates to AEMAS certified energy
managers and local trainers. Twenty two local trainers and eight energy managers were given
AEMAS certificates by the Executive Director of the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE), Dr. Hardiv
Harris Situmeang.
The national launching conference in Vietnam was organized by Research Centre for
Energy and Environment (RCEE), the AEMAS Project Partner in Vietnam.
4. Results Oriented Monitoring (ROM) Mission for AEMAS Project conducted in the
Philippines, 17-21 October 2011
The Results Oriented Monitoring (ROM) Mission for the ASEAN Energy Management
Scheme (AEMAS) project was successfully conducted in the Philippines on 17-21 October 2011.
The ROM Mission is an activity conducted by an independent consultant for the European Union
(EU) projects funded under the Switch-Asia Programme.
The ROM Mission was organized by the
ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) in coordination
with the AEMAS Philippines’ project partner, the
Energy Efficiency Practitioners Association of the
Philippines or ENPAP.
The following target groups and
beneficiaries of the AEMAS Project were
interviewed during the ROM Mission: project
partner; professional institutions; power utility
company; AEMAS National Council members;
energy end users; energy efficiency advocacy
groups; energy consultants and auditors; ESCOs
and training participants.

The ROM Mission was conducted by Ms. Mercedes Marin of ECORYS, and she was
accompanied by Mr. Oscarlito C. Malvar, AEMAS Technical Officer of the ASEAN Centre for
Energy (ACE). During the Mission, Ms. Marin and Mr. Malvar witnessed the awarding of the
certificates of attendance to the participants of the 5th AEMAS Certified Energy Manager
Training-Workshop conducted by ENPAP in Technopark Hotel, Santa Rosa, Laguna, Philippines
on 19-21 October 2011.
AEMAS joined the Switch-Asia Network Facility Meeting held in Jakarta, Indonesia
25 - 27 October 2011
AEMAS joined the Switch-Asia Network Facility Meeting held on 25-27 October 2011 in Le
Meridien Hotel, Jakarta, Indonesia. The Meeting was a gathering of all Switch-Asia funded projects
by the European Union. The Meeting’s overall objective is to strenghten the synergies and
knowledge sharing between projects at regional level, and to provide a platform where the project
partners can present their current progress to important stakeholders, such as local policy makers.
The Meeting was attended by 60 participants from 10 projects and is the third and final in
the series of Sub-regional Switch-Asia Networking Meetings. Switch-Asia will continue this useful
events to support the successful implementation of projects.
The establishment of AEMAS is co-financed by the European Commission's Switch Asia Program. SWITCH Asia aims at promoting
Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) in Asia. To achieve this objective, the program works simultaneously on the ground,
with producers and consumers, and at the level of policy-making through supporting for formulation and implementation of SCP-
related policies. It started in 2007 with a budget of €90 million for the period 2007-2010.
