2. THE NIGHT The title “THE HOLOCAUST” has been taken from a beautiful literature piece by Elie Wiesel – THE NIGHT. Elie Wiesel himself was a victim of the Nazi’s injustice, and was one of the people who had survived the holocaust in 1944 – 1945. After the liberation he raised his voice against Hitler’s policies against the Jews. This piece of literature is moreover a voice to counter the inequality faced by the Jews during the World War II. Elie Wiesel narrates the story as Eliezer, a Jewish teenager who suffers every brutality of the Germans with his father and ultimately survied.
3. Introduction How can prejudice, hate, intolerance, and lawlessness change the face of the Earth? Millions of Europeans were killed during the Holocaust. Why did this occur? Who's idea was it? When did it begin? Who were the victims? How many were children? How many were saved? Who saved them?
4. Facts: The word Holocaust was given to the killing of the 6 million Jews because it was a war of extermination designed to wipe out an entire group of people Adolf Hitler who was appointed Chancellor of Germany,a nation with a Jewish population of 566,000 decided to perform holocausts.
5. When did it began? July 14, 1933 - Nazi Party is declared the only legal party in Germany; Also, Nazis pass Law to strip Jewish immigrants from Poland of their German citizenship. July 1933- Nazis pass law allowing for forced sterilization of those found by a Hereditary Health Court to have genetic defects. Nov 24, 1933 - Nazis pass a Law against Habitual and Dangerous Criminals, which allows beggars, the homeless, alcoholics and the unemployed to be sent to concentration camps. Sept 15, 1935 - Nuremberg Race Laws against Jews decreed.
6. ANTI JEWISH LAWS Jews were forbidden to live with, marry or to have extramarital relations with persons of German blood. They were denied access to certain city areas, sidewalks, transportation, places of amusement, & restaurants. They could not do certain jobs like be a dentist, doctor, lawyer, farmer, or in radio. If you were a Jew you had to pay taxes just because you were Jewish. All Jewish homes, businesses, bank accounts, and real estate were taken away by the German Government.

8. LIFE IN CONCENTRATION CAMPS A prisoner in Auschtwitz is forced to stand without moving for endless hours as a punishment. He is wearing a triangle patch identification on his chest. A chart of prisoner triangle identification markings used in Nazi concentration camps which allowed the guards to easily see which type of prisoner any individual was.

13. Revelations: Under Nazi domination, approximately 6 million Jews were murdered throughout the continent in Europe. Of that 6 million people, it is estimated that 1.5 million were children.
14. During World War Two, many individuals from many countries risked their lives to save the Jews, from the horrors of the Holocaust.
15. Feng-Shan Ho Feng-Shan Ho was a Chinese diplomat who saved approximately 2,000 Jews during the early years of World War II.
16. Giorgio Perlasca Giorgio Perlasca was an Italian who helped save thousands of Hungarian Jews from the Holocaust by issuing them fake passports to travel to neutral countries.
17. Chiune Sugihara ChiuneSugihar was a Japanese diplomat. He helped an estimated 6,000 Jews leave the country by issuing transit visas to Jewish refugees.
18. AWARENESS The film, Europa, Europa,was the winner of the Best Foreign Film Golden Globe in 1991. The film, Life is Beautiful made in Italian language was a story about a Jewish Italian who must employ his fertile imagination to help his family during their internment in a Nazi concentration camp. It had won 3 academy awards in 1998.
