Notas del editor

  1. Many of the mass media tools like newspapers or TV channels are owned by several big groups or persons like Murdoch group or Doğan Medya Group. Those groups objectivity is discussed for years and it is a fact that they wouldn't publish news or interviews that would harm the image of their advertisers who pays a lot to them. So, it is almost impossible to publish the news that Nike uses child labor in far East in mass media. However, since Internet is not owned by any person or any group it is a perfect platform to publish and spread out the news. Also, relatively small movements can not afford to be pulished in any TV or newspaper. Publishing in digital media is almost free of charge.
  2. NGO's can publish news, photos, videos but if people seeing them do not share with each other it wouldn't help the cause. In traditional media the published news were only shared in small talks like cocktails or dinner tables. However with web 2.0 tools advocates and volunteers can share videos, photos etc. and help the cause or the movement to speed up and to spread out.
  3. In traditional media receivers were supposed to accept what is broadcasted. In digital media the communication is done from many to many. Any broadcasted or published news can be discussed in blog, P2P chat programs etc. People can discuss from others who are physically miles away  the reasons of a cause, how to improve a problematic situation.
  4. In order to increase the effect of published materials they need to be shared and discussed. And in order to increase the possibility of sharing and discussing, the movement need to embrace advocates and volunteers. The best way to hire volunteers and create advocates is to create social networks or groups in social networking platforms So, they can create the leverage needed for the movement and also create a snowball effect.
  5. Beside any news, any disaster occurring in any part of the world is heard from the other part of the world in a matter of seconds Thus,  people feel everything as if it is happening right here, right now. And so, they are more vulnerable, sensitive and aware to any disaster or problem
  6. Since any news turn around the globe in a matter of seconds, responses and reactions are also be seen in a matter of seconds. Even a motto is emerged in Friendfeed. People who wants to make more people here about anything just write "yay!" as a comment. http://friendfeed.com/atahan/c952f252/az-once-aldigim-habere-gore-hastamizi
  7. News turning around the globe do not discriminate among borders, religion, language etc. Since, Internet has no owner and millions of owners, no government or religious group can really prevent anyone spreading news. We all heard of the Iranian guy spreading news on Internet. Our government has banned more than 6 thousands websites including Youtube which do not keep any of us surfing on them. Example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Censorship_in_Iran Exception: South Korea
  8. In the old version, (of the world) any NGO needed to spend money in order to have more donations. Beside the marketing costs for being heard, increasing awareness and calling people into action, NGO's needed to spend money for people who are working for such purposes. Now many people who are not even volunteers of any specific organization are spreading the cause.  Beside: Administrative costs can be decreased easily
  9. The idea here is that: current methods of social conduct have proven to have no chance in resolving the problems of environmental destruction, human conflict, poverty, corruption and any other issue that reduces the possibility of collective human sustainability on our planet. It is time we grow up as a species and really examine what the true problems and solutions are, as uncomfortable, untraditional and foreign as they might seem. A second step is also issued: The Venus Project, beyond politics, poverty and war with the initiation of Jacques Fresco It is a new social direction, The Venus Project is a veritable blue-print for the genesis of a new world civilization, one that is based on human concern and environmental reclamation.
  10. On Facebook page of Peace Dot, Facebook shows 1. the numbers of connections between SO CALLED animosities geographically, politically, or religiously Like Muslims and Jewish, or Greece and Turkish It also shows 2. a survey on peace. Is world Peace possible? Do you think we will achieve world peace within 50 years? And release the results on country basis. BT consulting and Robo Dynamics are 2 of the peace dot supporter s . Those companies have found a peace.dot page and are communicating their peace activities through those pages.
  11. The foundation reaches to the cancer patients in need of health, education, shelter etc. The first part of the project is a data warehouse of Turkish Cancer patients and their complaints. www.kayitmerkezi.com will help the project subsequent steps and also achieve to obtain a relevant statistics According to these statistics priorities about medical support, MD shortages and hospital or clinic construction needs will be determined geographically and also by the type of cancer. And needed services will be offered. The second part of this project is www.herseyeragmenyalnizdegiller.com. With the help of this site, information, activities, any experiential cures will be shared and offered to the knowledge of citizens.
  12. Causes are classified under 9 groups Animals Arts & Culture Education Environment Health Human Services International Public Advocacy Religion There are over 246.000 causes Over 25 million visitor to cause page monthly http://statistics.allfacebook.com/applications/single/causes/2318966938/ There are educational and promotional webinars, Sending newsletters Sharing success storeis and best practice examples http://exchange.causes.com/resources/success-stories/ Examples of some non profit partners around USA and Canada American Heart Association, Inc. Global Justice Humane Society of The United States Teach for America, Inc. Heritage Foundation Ashoka ONE Campaign SAVE DARFUR COALITION Greenpeace Fund, Inc. Iraq And Afghanistan Veterans Of America Inc Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society Canadian Cancer Society HABITAT FOR HUMANITY WORLD LITERACY OF CANADA THE CHILDHOOD CANCER FOUNDATION
  13. The Climate Project (TCP) began in June 2006 as a commitment by Al Gore to train 1,000 Americans to become Presenters and to give the slideshow from his Academy Award-winning film An Inconvenient Truth.  The first TCP Presenter training was held in Nashville, Tennessee, which is the home of its international headquarters.  Mr. Gore's initial goal has been met and exceeded.  TCP now has more than 3,000 Presenters  around the globe  who have reached an audience of more than 7.3 million people worldwide. Statistics about the Climate Project Established in June 2006 8 official branches around the world 3125 trained presenters 17 sessions 3 regional summits: North American, Asian Pacific, Latin American
  14. There are millions of tools offering hundreds of opportunities to anybody who wants to start a movement. From international NGO's, to an individual anybody can create a big impact on the world as long as he has a CAUSE thanks to the web 2.0
