• Summer means more down time, which
sometimes creates more opportunities for
children to get into trouble, especially when
parents aren’t around. About 70 percent of
school-aged children live in homes where
both parents work.
• Summer can also mean boredom, and a
bored child is a child who's more likely to
take risks to introduce excitement. Kids may
try things they wouldn't otherwise try, give
into peer pressure, or make new – and
potentially questionable – online friends so
they don't have to feel alone all summer.

technology is everywhere and no parent can
supervise their child every minute of every day.
Instead, you'll have to get savvy about what you
do and don't allow.

6. Striking a Balance
• Parents need to strike a balance between
banning technology altogether and giving
their children free access to whatever they
can find. During the summer months, this
can become more challenging, and parents
