Horizontal boring Machine:
In a horizontal boring machine, the work is supporting on a table which is constant and the tool turns into a
horizontal axis. A horizontal boring machine can perform boring, reaming, turning, threading, facing,
milling, grooving, recessing and many other operations with suitable tools. Workpieces which are heavy,
irregular and off-balance can conveniently hold and easy to machining.

Table Type Horizontal Boring Machine
The table types are the most common of all
horizontal boring machines. The name horizontal
boring machine is given because the work is
mounting on the table which is adjustable and
feeds is giving by hand or power, lengthwise or
crosswise with respect to the bed of the machine.
The headstock may adjust vertically on the column
and the spindle has a horizontal feed motion. The
machine essentially consists of a bed, headstock
supporting column, end supporting column,
headstock, saddle and table, and boring bar. The
table, saddle and headstock may adjust by
leadscrews using micrometre dials. This type of
machine is suitable for general purpose work
where other operations, in addition to boring, is
required to be performed.
Floor Type Horizontal Boring Machine
The floor type horizontal boring machine having
notable uses a constant floor-plate on which T-
slots is providing to hold the work. The headstock
supporting column and the end supporting column
is mounting on the runways which are placed at
right angles to the spindle axis.
Thus any crosswise adjustment or cross-feed
movement is providing by the spindle itself and
not by the work.

Planer Type Horizontal Boring Machine
The planer type horizontal boring machine
resembles the table type but the table slides direct
on the bed instead of on a saddle angles to the
spindle similar to a planer. The end of the
supporting column and headstock supporting
column may adjust towards or away from the table
for accommodating different widths of works. This
type of machine is suitable for supporting a long
work.
Multiple Head Type Horizontal Boring
Machine
The machine resembles a double housing planer or
a Plano-miller. The table is supporting on a long
bed on which it reciprocates. There are two vertical
columns at two sides of the bed, nearly at the
middle of the bed. The two columns are bridged by
a cross rail.
The machine may have two, three or four
headstocks. This type of machine may use as a
horizontal and vertical machine.
The machining operations can perform
simultaneously at different work surfaces.
Jig boring Machine
Jig boring is used to accurately enlarge existing holes and make their diameters highly accurate. Jig boring is used
for holes that need to have diameter and total runout controlled to a high degree. ... Dedicated jig boring machines are
designed to machine holes with the tightest tolerances possible with a machine tool. It uses a single point cutting tools
to machine surfaces rapidly and accurately.

Cemented carbide and diamond tipped tools are operated at a very high cutting speed to produce accurately sized
holes with fine surface. Jig boring machine is a precision boring machine, resembles to vertical milling machine in
construction. Accurate positioning of holes is achieved by Lead screw method or Mechanical / Electrical Gauging
method or Optical measuring method

Vertical boring machine are a specialized type of industrial machinery used for specific
functions or tasks. This product is often large in size and uses a rotating piece attached to
a horizontal table. The borer is able to travel upwards or downwards depending on the
operator..
Standard vertical boring
Standard vertical boring machine is
the largest of the machine tools. It is
used to machine inside and outside
diameters and facing large pieces
which are more or less symmetrical
such as large ring-gear blanks, steam
turbine castings, water turbine
runners, locomotive tires, tables for
machine tools, flanges for large
pipes and pressure vessels. The size
of such a machine is given by the
diameter of the largest workpiece
which can be machined.
Vertical turret type boring
machine
Vertical turret type boring machine
is basically a vertical boring mill
and has turrent arrangement of
holding the tools. It can do
essentially the same jobs, but on a
smaller scale. The machine looks
like a turrent lathe, with its head
stock resting on the floor and its axis
vertical. The table is usually called a
chuck because of its adjusting jaws
for work clamping.

Boring Tools:
Boring tools are held in boring tool holders which may be either fixed or rotating type. Fixed holders
are used in work-rotating machines and rotating holders in tool rotating machines. Size of boring bar
should be such as to provide maximum rigidity and also permit sufficient clearance for disposal of
chips. Normally boring bar diameter is taken as 0.7 x bore diameter. It should have minimum
overhang.
Precisionboring Machine:
This machine rough bored, inserted a bushing, and finish bored an appliance motor end shield utilizing a
drawbar-actuated precision boring tool.
Various types of boring tool holders
i.Adjustable Boring Bars:
These are built with cartridges (to hold throwaway
type inserts) adjustable in axial and radial directions
by set screws.
ii. Damped Boring Bars:
In it, dampers are provided at the feed end to absorb
vibrations.
iii. Boring Head:
It is more rigid boring tool holder and is used
for roughing and finishing of large bore (100
to 500 mm). Provision to offset cutting
axially and radially exists. Two cutters can be
mounted radially at 180° to have balanced
cutting.
iv. Boring and Facing Heads:
This enables boring of large bores and facing
of seating surfaces at right angles to the bore.
Radial tool feeding facility also exists.
