Natural disaster preparedness
1. A disaster is a natural or
manmade event which
results in wide spread human
loss, loss of
livelihood, property and life.
2. A natural disaster is a
major adverse event resulting
from natural processes of the
Earth; examples
include floods, volcanic
eruptions, earthquakes,

processes. A natural disaster
can cause loss of life or
property damage, and
typically leaves some
economic damage in its

6. Personal preparedness focuses
on preparing equipment and
procedures for use when a
disaster occurs, i.e., planning.
Preparedness measures can
take many forms including the
construction of
shelters, implementation of
an emergency
communication
system, installation of warning
devices, creation of back-up
life-line services.
7. Planning and preparedness, would allow for a
better, more efficient use of the material and
human resources.
9. It involves
measures taken
in anticipation
of, during and
immediately
after a disaster to
ensure that the
effects are
minimized.
10. Hospitals can b quickly be overwhelmed in the event of disaster…The
response phase in all cases the focus will quickly turn to fulfilling the
basic needs of the affected population. This assistance may be
provided by national or international agencies and organizations.
11. The recovery phase starts after the
immediate threat to human life. During
reconstruction it is recommended to
consider the location or construction
material of the property.
