Desires of the body and desires of the soul
1. DESIRES OF THE BODY AND DESIRES OF THE SOUL By Lao Russell
2. It is an unaccountably strange but gratifying fact that at this time when man is once more threatened with mass degradation, there are more And more within whom God-awareness is awakening in preparation for a Cosmic Age of Love. We note with deep sadness the increase in the practice of man preying upon man, with its consequent fruits of hate and fear which always culminate in a state of truce-divided war.
3. Again I say, as I have repeatedly said, that the measure of any man’s progress toward his own omnipotence is gauged by the measure in which God-consciousness is awakening in him.
4. I would like to write this upon the skies for all the world of men to see. I would like to write it, also, in the hearts of men so it will reach their souls, for it is a veritable truth that no man can ever find the love and happiness he seeks even though he gains the whole world of gold if he knows not his sleeping soul within him.
5. The moment the soul of man awakens within him, even to the slightest extent, God-awareness also awakens. And with that awakening comes a new power a strange new power such as he has never known before and a new emotion of inner joyousness Is felt within him. This is the beginning of ecstasy.
6. One simple act of love will begin the soul-awakening. One gift of love to another will awaken that therefore unknown power and exalt man to unknown heights.
7. Man begins to transcend his body the moment he gives love out from himself to another, whether it be a kind word to one who is hungry for love or an act of mercy to a crippled bird.
8. The very doors of heaven open wide for such a man to see the Light within. That is the meaning of the words: “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”
9. This is what I mean by transcending one’s body, for it is only God in man which can love. Extracted from Lao Russell’s book “Why You Cannot Die!” Picture: Lao Russell
