CONTENT ANALYSIS
An affix is a morpheme that is attached to a word stem to form a new word. Affixes may be derivational, like English -
ness and pre-, or inflectional, like English plural -s and past tense –ed. An affix added to the front of a word is known as
a prefix. One added to the back is known as a suffix.

INTRODUCING THE LEARNING ACTIVITY
Teacher : Today we are going to play a game. You must form three groups. Two
groups will compete against each other and the third group will be the judg-
ing group. Pupil form groups as directed.
4. For each round I will give you a word, which we will call as the ‘root word’. Your
task is to add some letters before or after root word to create another word.
When one group creates a word by adding letters before the root word, other
has to do so by adding letters after the root word.
Each time you create a word that gives opposite meaning of the root word, one
member of the respective group will be considered out of the game. Thus we shall
continue till one group becomes empty.
The duty of the judging group is to refer each word put forward by the groups and
read out its meaning from the dictionary and keep a list of the same. Pupil comprehends the rules of
the learning activity.

6. INTODUCING THE TOPIC
Teacher writes the title of the topic on the blackboard ‘AFFIXES- PREFIX AND
SUFFIX’
ELABORATES ON THE TOPIC
Teacher displays a chart showing the definition of affix and some examples.
An affix is added to the root of a word to change its meaning.
An affix added to the front of a word is known as a prefix.
e.g. happy---- un + happy = unhappy
One added to the back is known as a suffix.
e.g. acted----- act + ed = acted
SHARING THE UNDERSTANDING OF THE TOPIC
Pupil are asked to share what they understand with their peers.
GROUP ACTIVITY
Teacher asks pupil to sit in groups, and displays a set of words and asks pupil to write
down the affixes used in them and categorize them as suffix and prefix.
PRESENTATION OF THE PRODUCT
Teacher asks group leaders to present their products.
Pupil listen carefully.
Pupil share their ideas.
7. REFINING/EDITING
Teacher edits one of the best products and presents it to the class and asks pupil to
copy it to their notebooks.
ASSIGNMENT
Pupil are asked to form words using affixes –ed, -ly, un-, dis-, in-, -ing, -tion, extra- .
Pupil copy it in their note
books.
