5. What attracts me to this genre...
One of the reasons I enjoy watching comedy films is because of star theory, this
means that I like to watch a film just because a well known comedy actor
starred or featured in the film, for example one of my favourite films is Just
Go With It, Adam Sandler co-stars in this film with Jennifer Aniston, both
of the two actors star in a lot of comedy films, for example, Adam Sandler
stars in, Waterboy, Happy Gilmore, Grown up, all these films I love to watch
so I knew before watching Just Go With It that it would be hilarious. Other
actors who are know well in the comedy film industry are, Seth Rogen, Will
Ferrell and Jim Carey.
Another reason that Comedy is my favourite genre is because the story line is
very simple and easy to follow up with no confusion, and of course I enjoy a
film that would make me laugh.
6. How we find out about the films we
watch...
Another way to advertise a
film is by using a billboard
Facebook has over 500 million users so (as shown on the right).
obviously it would be a brilliant advertising This is a very good
technique because most of the Facebook technique as it would grab
users use the site daily. Now on Facebook a lot of attention because
people can like groups and official pages for it is very distinct and hard
example the film Bridesmaids would have an to miss by local drivers
official Facebook page, where people can and pedestrians.
comment and leave reviews of the film and
any user can read that review also. So this
technique widens the audience alot as A good way to advertise a film is at a
anyone can see who has ‘liked’ the official cinema, since you’ve just paid for a
page and it would also come up on friends ticket for a different film, before the
news feeds. film starts, about 10 minutes of
different movie trailers are shown,
all the trailers will look very
appealing so that some of the films
will stick in your head and make you
want to see that film once it is
release in the cinema.
7. Intertextuality...
Intertextuality refers to the way in which texts gain meaning through
their referencing or evocation of other texts. For example in one on my
chosen films Bridesmaids, the end of the film is quite similar to a part in
the film sex and the city when they break into a dance number. It is also
quite similar because both the films are about a group of friends and are
about a wedding. By watching films with Intertextuality in them gives
me a greater knowledge about the genre and makes me appreciate it.
8. Reception theory...
Cultural theorist Stuart Hall is one of the main proponents of reception
theory. Reception theory is basically the way the film relates to you.
Bridesmaids is a good example for reception theory as the film is
basically all about friendship and relationships, which every female can
relate to, during the film Annie feels the emotion of jealousy (which is
common with many females) whilst doing a speech to congratulate her
best friend, the new comer Helen has a better speech so the jealousy
kicks in as they go head to head trying to out do one an others speech.
The audience are likely to relate to this as the emotion is common and
runs through the whole of the film.
