Criteria 1:
Chosen activity: A thematic
discussion forum by using a video
uploaded from YouTube
The technology: for this activity,
three types of technologies will be
required, the institutional one, called
CIBERSITY, which is a platform for
private use by the Metropolitan
University of Sciences and
Technology UMECIT, Google
translator, such as Google's
translation platform, and by course,
YouTube, in the contribution of the
video resource.
Students will download the video,
which is mute; It is a video of
animated cartoons, where a puppy
who wants to become a guide dog is
presented. This dog enters the Canine
University of the southwestern United
States to be trained. Students will
make a critical report of their opinion
on the video, with a minimum of 50
words and a maximum of 100 words.
They will use the Google translator to
check their translation of the content
from Spanish to English.

Criteria 2: This is a class, for a basic

technology provided by Google will
be of great help for students to
practice the translation technique
from Spanish to English. The fact of
using a mute video makes the
participants to put into practice their
imagination and creativity skills.

will have no problem handling the
tools. And of course, the use of
institutional technology, CIBERSITY,
will not be a problem for the students

First, as a teacher, I have permission
to use the UMECIT CIBERSITY
platform. Regarding the use of the
Google translator, there is no problem
with this open technological resource
and, lastly, to say that the video that
will be used for the Virtual Thematic
Discussion Forum is for public use
and has no restrictions on use.

3. EVALUACIÓN DE LA TÉCNICA DEL USO DE UN VIDEO MUDO DE YOUTUBE
PARA UNA CLASE DE INGLES
1. Why do I use this technology? 300 Words
This platform has a video library that has received billions of visits that include videos:
musicals, documentaries, advertising, educational, interviews, news, online classes, etc.
YouTube is the second-largest search engine in the world and the third most visited site
after Google and Facebook. 300 hours of video to YouTube are uploaded every minute.
3.25 billion hours of video per month are consumed by netizens on YouTube. 50% of
YouTube visits come from mobile devices. There are about 1,000,000,000 views a day,
only on a mobile. YouTube can be viewed in 76 languages, encompassing 95% of the
Internet population. This portal is a bastion of new technologies as support in the
educational field. Also, in a month 8 out of 10 people between 18 and 49 years old watch
YouTube. Video is a type of multimedia content that can cause a high degree of interest
and motivation. (146 words)
YouTube as an educational tool:
Just by having internet access, you can be connected to the site. The video can be used as a
complement or introduction to content given by the teacher, illustrating and outlining the
information simply and clearly. Versatility is a great characteristic of connection to
YouTube from any device with the Internet. Familiarity, most of today's students spend a
large portion of their free time on YouTube. It generates motivation in the student. A better
understanding of meanings, being a content that encompasses words, images, and sounds,
this improves the concepts given. Access to virtual teachers develops the student's
imagination. Students view content, can create their videos, and upload them to the site.
Many people do not have the means to attend schools but they do have the possibility of
experiences. (6)

Criteria 5: With Google translator,
the immediate translation is achieved,
it has spelling and grammar
correction, it guarantees to learn, it
has audio for pronunciation
improvements, it supports various
languages, it translates long texts, it
does not have any kind of cost.
As for the risks, it is that this Google
translator technology does not always
allow for a perfect translation, it may
have inconsistent phrases and
grammatical inconsistencies.

CUADRO DE AVISO
Is your chosen technology open access, or institutionally-supported? (See Module 2: Open
and Institutionally Supported Technologies for definitions). What are the benefits and risks
associated with the technology you have chosen? Think about the relevant benefits and
risks of open and institutionally-supported technologies in your answer (500 words if you
choose written submission format or 5 minute recording if you choose to submit video
format).
1. Description of technological tools (509 Words)
a. Institutional technology - CIBERSITY Platform of the Metropolitan University of
Science and Technology (UMECIT):
Cibersity will be seen by the student as the University itself and will become their trusted
tool, during their training period as well as in their future academic or professional life.
Cibersity will be an allied tool that will avoid unnecessary trips and will put at hand all the
relevant information for decision-making. (68 words)
b. Open Google Translator Technologist
A few days ago, Google announced that its translator was going to be updated with a
function to transcribe and translate in real-time. In short, Google has implemented a
function similar to what the "Instant Transcription" app does in its translator app, so now
the translator comes to work as a real-time interpreter as well. They said it would come in
the next few days, and the time has come.
Before starting, it is worth mentioning the languages available in this function. Google
Translate supports about 100 languages, but the "Transcribe" feature only works with a
few. Eight, to be exact. They are very widespread languages, so somehow it makes sense
that for the launch it was chosen to do so.
And what are the ones available at the moment? Well, they are German, Spanish, French,
Hindi, English, Portuguese, Russian, and Thai. Some important ones are missing, such as
Chinese, Japanese, or Italian, but using English as an intermediary, the truth is that the
function is simply sufficient. Only one input language and one output language can be used,
so, for now, nothing to translate simultaneously into several languages.
Although the option to download the languages appears, the truth is that the "Transcribe"
function does not work without a data connection or active Wi-Fi, which shows that the
voice processing is being carried out in the cloud. This can be a small problem when
traveling to a country without roaming, so it should be taken into account. (247 words)
6. EVALUACIÓN DE LA TÉCNICA DEL USO DE UN VIDEO MUDO DE YOUTUBE
PARA UNA CLASE DE INGLES
c. YouTube technology as a teaching tool in the English classroom
Modern education has found a formidable ally through the use of ICTs; this is the video,
which provides audiovisual content, which represents important material that is shared in
the classroom. However, it is essential to know that not just any video will serve us in the
classroom and that, perhaps, we do not always select the most appropriate for the
curriculum. Therefore, when it comes to talking about video in teaching, we must
differentiate between didactic video and didactic use of video. By didactic video, we are
going to understand the one that has been designed and produced to transmit some content,
skills or activities and that, depending on its symbolic systems, how to structure and use
them, encourages learning in students; on the contrary, with its didactic use, we refer to the
broader vision of the various forms of use that it can play in teaching. (Cabrero, 1989: 138)
The video format is highly attractive to students because, in a way, the videos are far from
the normal classroom dynamics and the learning process is not as conscious. (178 Words)
