6. According to Gartner, “India’s mobile services market will reach Rs.1.2 trillion in
2013, up 8 percent from 2012 revenue of Rs. 1.1 trillion. Mobile connections will grow
to 770 million in 2013, an 11 percent increase from 712 million connections in 2012.”
Android clearly leads in device activation jumping by over 400% in India and making it
the fourth-largest market for app downloads. Google recognizes the importance of the
development community in India and announced that developers in India can sell paid
applications, in-app products, and subscriptions in Google Play.
Although the market is growing significantly, the talent and human resource required to
serve the market does not add up. A recent Economic Times article stated that although
job postings for mobile developers has doubled in the last two years, but supply is
growing only at 13 percent.
