11. Electric circuit
“An electric circuit is formed when a conductive path is created to
allow free electrons to continuously move. This continuous
movement of free electrons through the conductors of a circuit is
called a current, and it is often referred to in terms of "flow," just
like the flow of a liquid through a hollow pipe.
The force motivating electrons to "flow" in a circuit is
called voltage. “

WelcomeAcknowledgement of traditional owners:“Our workshop is being held on the traditional lands of the Jaggera people (of the south) and the Turrbal people (of the north) and I wish to acknowledge them as Traditional Owners.I would also like to pay my respects to their Elders, past and present, and the Elders from other communities who may be here today.
Who am I?Talk about the various projects I’ve been involved in: The Room, Water Wheel, DIY Chandeliers, ResidencyWhat is my background: Electronics, Computer programming, Design
The parts that we’re going to focus on …
Show a prototype of the working circuit
Talk about voltage as the temperature of the water, and current the pressure pushing the water through the hose.Direct current as having polarity; that is from one pole (positive) to the opposite pole (negative). While AC fluctuates from positive to negative to positive. Perhaps think of DC as being like a magnet; while AC is a bit like a wave travelling through the water.DC: Batteries (like remote batteries, mobile phone’s, laptops, car batteries); AC: Home electronics (lights, refridgerator, oven, power transmission).Interesting info about the current wars .. It’s a little like the Beta versus VHS, or Blueray versus HD-DVD: every generation has their versus. For them it was Eddison versus Westinghouse http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_of_Currents
Talk about: colour rings (strength)resistors we’re using are made of metal film (blue) and carbon film)Use the analogy of water through a hose, applying pressure “resistance” to the hose reduces the pressure causing the flow to Show experimentResistor selector and visual calculator http://www.hobby-hour.com/electronics/resistorcalculator.php
Also known as a variable resistor.
Like small temporary batteries. They’re used to:- Filter fluctuations
The 555 timer IC is an integrated circuit (chip) used in a variety of timer, pulse generation, and oscillator applications. The 555 can be used to provide time delays, as an oscillator, and as a flip-flop element. Derivatives provide up to four timing circuits in one package.Special type of comparator that has two thresholds; an upper threshold and a lower threshold. R1 and R2 form a threshold.
