This brochure was created and developed by Meyerson Marketing for The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme. I was the photographer on this assignment. The Assignment: photographing four extraordinary youths who were selected by Boys & Girls Club for a promotional brochure The Challenge: I had about 15 minutes prior to the shoot to get to know these kids so I could photographically capture their individual personalities and spirit. The Victory: I was able to talk with each of them, conceptualize how I would photograph them, and then captured their true spirit in each photograph - all within less than an hour! Edlin: Edlin was definitely easy to get to know right away. She is bright and full of energy. When I spoke with her, she told me that should would love to be an entrepreneur and would like to help others do the same. Roman: Roman was only 7 years old when I photographed him. When I asked him what he was interested in, he told me he loved to draw cartoons. I provided him with a piece of paper and some colored pencils, and asked him to draw me something. While he was drawing, he was telling me a funny story about the picture, and at that moment, I captured his creative personality. Ward: Ward is definitely the funniest of the group. When I asked him what he enjoyed, he told me he loves to tell jokes. I ran back to the B&G club, found a microphone to use as a prop. I gave it to Ward and told him to do his "routine" for me while I photographed him. He is a natural comedian and felt very comfortable in front of the camera. Daniel: By far, Daniel was the quiet and most reserved. When I met him, he was wearing very dark glasses that covered his eyes. I told him to take off the glasses so I could see his eyes while I was talking to him. I told him that he had beautiful eyes and he should show them more. When I asked Daniel what he enjoyed doing, he told me that he loves to look at the stars. After a few minutes, I convinced him to keep his glasses off so I could photograph to see his eyes... Daniel\'s confidence went from 0-60 in just a few minutes. It is evident by the photo, he is a visionary and sees things through beautiful eyes.
