in the Calcutta High Court.
* He was good at English and Persian, he
took delight in reciting to his family the
poems of the Persian poet Hafiz.
* He was a charitable man. He had sympathy on
poor people.
* He was rationalistic and progressive in
outlook in matters of religious and social
issues, perhaps he was influenced by
western culture.
*His mother was an accomplished lady with a
regal bearing .She was deeply religious.
Mother- Bbuvaneswari Devi
Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa
Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa
*After the death of his master,he
shouldered the responsibility of
leading the Ramakrishna Mission of
brotherhood.
*At Antpur, during Christmas Eve, he
took the vow of sanyasa and started
practices.
*Vivekananda also travelled to America to
attend to the Parliament of Religions that was
held at Chicago on 11 September 1893.
*The spacious hall of the Art Institute was
packed with nearly seven thousand people,
representing the best culture of the country.
When its turn came, he began his address
with the words, “ Sisters and Brothers of
America”, and seven thousand people rose
to their feet as a tribute to something;
they knew not what.
By his memorable speech, the simple
monk with a begging bowl had become the
man of the hour.
The essential charactrestics of the
Educational philosophy of vivekanada are
Idealism, naturalism and Pragmatism.
*Assimilation of these ideas should be goal
of education.
*He stressed for the type of
education which could help in
life builiding, man making,
character making and the
assimilation of ideas.
*He wanted to bring universal religion into
essence, which shall help people to lead
harmonious life.
*Transformation of brutal instincts in man to
make him a complete entity is the philosophy
of his education.
*Vivekananda has given his idea of education in
accordance with spiritualism and humanism.
*He expressed that “Education is the manifestation
of the perfection already in man”.
*According to Vivekananda, Education is not mere
book learning and also it is not providing diverse
knowledge, but it is training by which the current
expression of will is brought under control and
make life fruitful.
* To him, the very essence of education is
concentration of mind, not the collecting of facts.
*He wanted that students should not study mere facts
and develop the power of concentration and
detachment.
After that, students could collect facts through the
perfect instrument of education.
*Real education is that which enables one to
stand on his own legs.
*Education is not the amount of
information that is put into the young brains
and runs riot, or which is undigested by the
young.
*Education must make the whole man.
*“Knowledge is inherent in man; no
knowledge comes from outside; it is all
inside-”.
*So education should enlighten knowledge
of the child.
*His option was to provide education to all
the people of India.
*Through education, Vivekananda
wanted to establish the brotherhood
of man and reconciliation of the
human contrast.
*He wanted to bring universal religion
for the good of the nation.
Swamy Vivekananda's principal aims of education are;
1.Character- building aim
2.The aim of making people self reliant
3.The aim of spiritual development
4. Education for serving humanity
5.The aim of education for
developig a feeling of brotherhood
6.Physical develpoment aim
7.Development of the spirit of
renunciation
8.The aim of attaining self sufficiency
Teachers idea of education is personal
contact with the teacher- Gurugrahavasa.
Without the personal life of a teacher, there
would be no education.
It is necessary for the child to study his
teacher's personal qualities.
*Such qualities are the living
examples for a child to imitate.
*The teacher should liberate
ignorance out from his/ her pupils.
*A teacher should possess purity of heart and
soul, he should impart the same through his
personal examples.
*The knowledge of scriptures for a teacher is
necessary.
*Learning mere systems of various
religions does not provide strength to
the heart and souls.
*Mere reading of syntax, etymology,
philology of the great epics of the
world appears to be words only
without spirit in them.
A teacher should have three necessary
things to make his students great
men:
*Conviction of the power of goodness.
*Absence of jealousy and suspicion.
* helping all who are trying to be and
do good.
* The teacher should have honest love in him,
that is the strongest force and the motive to
transmit spiritual essence.
*Everything can be achieved by through
motives, love, sincerity and patience of the
teacher.
It will help the child’s mental growth or
expansion.
The child does his own growing.
*Teacher’s duty is to provide opportunities and
to clear off obstacles in his way of learning.
*He should have purity in thought, speech and
deed.
*He should have perseverance and thirst for
knowledge.
*He should guide the child in moving towards a
good life.
Aimed at the synthesis or harmony of science
and spiritualism.
Allround development of the child's
personality.

*He was a kind of bridge between the past of
India and present.
* To meet the two ends, he placed in the
curriculum subjects

importance in future life.
*Along with philosophical education, people
should get technical education so that they
emerge as successful individuals.

spirit of
courage and

character should take up
the task of teaching.

and also duties of

Vivekananda has quoted that,
“if you do not raise the women
who are the living embodiment
of the divine mother don’t think
that you have any other way to
rise”.
Utility of the education
of the masses.
Indifference to the

and Gurukulas.

&

or discussion
method

guidance by the
teacher.
Conclusion
Vivekananda was a genius to the core
thought of future as his contemporary
period.
He was influenced by both Vedantic
knowledge and scientific knowledge.
He had a strange ability to comprehend the
spiritual aspect of God.
Whatever may be the mode of life, he thought
that the ultimate aim of man’s life is attainment
of self realisation.
He thought that to serve man is to serve God and
that religion and education are inseparable.
Through his educational philosophy, he
convinced that life struggle is and so he preached
to fight the battle of life fearlessly.
