Migrants Stream Into Canada at
Remote Outpost
by ASSOCIATED PRESS
Migrants seek asylum in Canada searching for the security that the U.S. political
climate doesn't give them.
Dulne Brutus, of Haiti, tows his luggage while heading to an
unofficial border station across from Saint-Bernard-de-Lacolle,
Quebec, on Aug. 7.
It's a mystery how this spot, not even an official border
crossing, became the favored place to cross into Canada. But,
once migrants started to go there, word quickly spread on
social media.

migrants that they are about to illegally cross the
border and will be arrested on Aug. 7.
The passage has become so crowded this summer
that Canadian police set up a reception center on
their side of the border in the Quebec community of
Saint-Bernard-de-Lacolle, about 30 miles south of
Montreal, or almost 300 miles north of New York
City.

presidential election between incumbent president Uhuru Kenyatta and his rival Raila

Kenyan police opened fire to disperse rioters in several areas after presidential
challenger Raila Odinga alleged election fraud, saying hackers used the identity of a
murdered official to infiltrate the database of the election commission and manipulate
results in favor of President Uhuru Kenyatta. At least three people were killed.
Election officials were verifying the final tallies Wednesday night. It was unclear how
long it would take, though by law election officials have up to a week from the election
to announce the results.
