1. Major Divisions and Parts of the Nervous System
1.Central Nervous Sytem (CNS)
The CNS servesas the main processing centerfor the entire nervoussystem. It consists of twomain components , namelythe :
a.Brain
This isan organ locatedwithinthe skullthat functions as organizerand distributorof information for the body.
Cerebrum - large , upperpart of the brain that controls activityand thought .
Cerebellum - the part under the cerebrumthat controlsposture, balance ,and coordination.
Brain Stem - the part that connectsthe brainto the spinal cordand controlsautomatic functions such as breathing , digestion,
heart rate ,and blood pressure.
b.Spinal Cord
This servesas a channelfor signalsbetwenthe brain and the rest of the body, and controls simple musculoskeletalreflexeswithout input
from the brain.
1.Peripheral Nervous System (PNS)
The PNS connectsthe centralnervoussystemtothe organs and limbs. It has twomain divisions:
a.Somatic Nervous System
This systemisassociated withthe voluntary controlof body movementsand has two main part:
Spinal Nerves - the nerve thatcarry motorand sensorysignalsbetweenthe spinal cordandthe body.
