Perfect Health
       This may sound like a tall order, but given the body’s evolved
       inherent capacities it is actually a matter of business as usual. The
       common lack of perfect health even in young people today is not
       normal even if it is common (and is getting even more common).

What About Aging?
Perfect health is possible at almost any age. A long period of
debilitating dysfunction as a consequence of aging is not the norm
in other animals, and is not occurring in some human populations.
Diet and lifestyle are important factors. Damage done can often be
reversed by doing the right things later in life. There is no inherent
reason for you to be any less energetic and healthy at the age of 55

Your Body Knows
Your body has the built-in capacity to be perfectly healthy. In fact,
a continuous process of self-repair and self-re-generation is a
defining feature of life as such. Your own body is therefore your first
ally in the pursuit of health and everything good that health entails.
Your task is to help your body do what it already “knows” how to do
through its genetic programming.

The Body in Health
Your body performs its mission of staying alive through
interconnected systems and functions (such as the ones in the
illustration below). These interact with the internal and external
environment. At every instant of your life, your body processes an
incalculable number of signals from the environment and makes
internal adjustments to sustain life and health. This is what’s called
homeostasis.

The Body in Health
If your goal is to be healthy, you need to work in accordance with
your body’s strive for homeostasis — not against it. As we said
before, your task is to help your body do what it already “knows”.
Attempts to work against the body to achieve some perceived health
goal is as futile as central planning in economics. Unfortunately most
diets and many popular pharmaceutical treatments fall into the latter
category with detrimental side effects as the result.

Dysregulation &
Now it is time to scare you by discussing what happens when you
fail to support your body properly. In other words, when you
chronically expose your body to stressors that it isn’t built to
handle, and when you don’t nourish it properly to deal with
challenges. Unfortunately, what we will describe is what most people

Dysregulation &
In the first stage of over-stress and malnourishment, the body is able to
cope through its built in homeostatic controls. In this stage, which can
last for a long time depending on the robustness of your body, you will
feel relatively fine and symptom free, though you may not be
experiencing true, vibrant health in the way that we described it earlier.

Dysregulation &
As you continue to neglect your body’s true needs, it will begin to
deplete the internal resources needed to continue to maintain
homeostasis. One or more system or organ begin to show internal
signs of stress and dysregulation. Since all systems are interconnected,
they are all affected to a degree. You may still not notice much of any
symptoms. Your doctor will find you perfectly “normal”. Life goes on,
but you might say to yourself "Oh, well, I guess I'm getting older."

As dysregulation continues, it causes further negative ripple effects on
the body’s systems, and sooner or later you will begin to experience
definite symptoms. At this point, one or more of your body’s
subsystems may already be in a compromised state. Your doctor,
however, will typically still find you “normal”. You might go to your
corner drug store to buy a remedy, or just shrug things off. “After all,
most everyone these days is obese, have bad skin, frequent colds, and
a bit of ADHD.”

     As long as the root causes for dysregulation persist, the body becomes
     weaker and less able overall to deal with stressors. It becomes
     vulnerable to challenges that normally wouldn’t pose a problem, such
     as the common cold. Symptoms worsen and multiply. At some point
     your symptoms may finally form a pattern that your doctor will
     diagnose as a clinically recognized "syndrome" or disease, and
     attempts to treat it. Your body has now sunk far into a dysfunctional
     state. You are on your way to a heart attack, irreversible organ
     damage, cancer, or the outbreak of a debilitating chronic disease.
