• a video blog is a blog that includes video
• the video has similar qualities to text in a
blog
• informal, quotidian, personal, mixed voices,
grounded in the life world of the blogger, indexical
• which makes it much like documentary
• they are social

• some early video blogs appeared in late
2000 and early 2001
• 2004 was declared ‘year of the videoblog’
• an email list established, with original
membership of 8
• currently 2000+ and video blogging is
now common

what works and what we know
• as it is a video blog video consists of
minor (small) stories
• meaning and depth accrues through time
as it is a serial/episodic form
• all content must be porous to the network
