It looks that something is happening at dates when the lunar symbol orientation changes at certain dates. Might be related to the Sun's position in the zodiac and in particular the certain transitions between two signs (when a Cold&Moist sign is involved).

 Are the lunar symbol orientations just inaccuracies
of the Gebroeders van Limburg (in English: the
Limbourg brothers)?
 Is it just coincidence?
 Is there any intended link between the orientation of
the lunar symbol and the zodiac?
 Is it a lunar, planetary or solar link?
 I think solar, otherwise a year calendar does not
make sense.
 The Duke was keenly interested in astrology,
according to Pognon (1979) and Longnon (1989)

 A bottom to top lunar symbol rotation is at a transition involving a
phlegmatic/water sign.
Although we are missing 4 months!
 Could there be a link with the four humors mentioned in the
Anatomical Person: sanguineous, phlegmatic, choleric and
melancholic?
 Related to fasting, blood letting, etc.?
 Or would there be an agricultural/biodynamical link?
 A Sun transition that has a zodiacal sign with the Aristotelian
elements cold and moist (primary body: Water), can have a lunar
symbol orientation change.
Such a cold and moist element can be handy in an annual calendar...
Maria Thun (1973) refers to the elements and primary bodies in biodynamic agriculture..
 Any other ideas/references on this?
