Understand customers wants, needs, and desires is a tricky business but it can be made much easier if you understand three key ideas: stage based marketing, system of relevance, and the fundamentals of modern consumer desires. This presentation was created for the Data Marketing conference in Toronto 2015, and outlines new research into modern buyers, and how to understand their needs, derive intelligence from their actions, and provide the best experience possible in the modern era.

I'd love to say more - but I can't. Working under a mound of NDA's, Brandwidth Innovation Lab is helping to steer the future of wearable technology (amongst other things). My presentation from the 'Business of Wearables' panel at http://www.wearablefutures.co offers a glimpse into Brandwidth's success and technological hit rate.

Mobile is part of a much bigger picture. The smartphone in your pocket can lead a consumer into a store, a showroom or event. Mobile content can also provide the virtual theatre taken away from a physical space. Real life meets virtual reality in this guide to a seamless narrative. I chose the enduring physical interactive wonder of Lego as my creative theme and introduced projects for Guinness World Records, Lexus, Rolls Royce, Toyota, Doctor Who, The Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, The Doors, Jarle Bernhoft, Disney and Oculus Rift. My original keynote at the Mobile Show Middle East (Dubai) also featured a video showreel that triggered a light show on a display of iPads. Happy to demonstrate in person.

My presentation from Wearables London (Oct 2014), controlled live with a MYO gesture control armband. Designing for the wearables market goes beyond mere UI and UX, it requires an understanding of user requirements, habits and expectations. This presentation explores the recent BBC Apprentice 'Wearable Technology' task and how the phrase is finally entering consumer vernacular. Also, Will.i.am's new Puls smart cuff - how does it rate against the opposition and does it finally close the gap between technology and Fashion? The Past, Present and Future section embraces the Walkman, Iron Man, calculator watches, Brandwidth's Apple Watch projects and the future of wearable technology... according to my 5 and 9 year old children. Finally, the #Shitometer is introduced as a device for sanity-checking a product. Apply this thinking to avoid unnecessary features or stopping a project in its tracks if it shouldn't even exist!

Let’s be honest: for most content strategists and other people working with online content, SEO is The Worst Part Of The Job. It’s hugely technical, it’s shrouded in mystery, it seems to be focused on robots instead of people, there are unspoken rules, everything can turn on a dime, and it never, ever seems to end. But SEO doesn't have to be this way. It’s time to begin a conversation between these two disciplines – they’re far more alike than you might think. And when they work together on behalf of users and customers, amazing things can happen that will drive your organisation forward. I can’t promise to change your mind about SEO, but you’ll leave this session understanding how to build the essentials into your work in ways that are simple, make sense, and are pain-free. You’ll see what business impacts and wins for the customer SEO and Content Strategy have had at REI, a major retailer in the US. And you’ll have the vocabulary, understanding and tools that you need to talk with your SEO... or to take it for yourself. Drive traffic, amaze your visitors, and Win the Internet -- with SEO and Content Strategy working together. Originally presented at the 2012 Content Strategy Forum in Cape Town, South Africa.
