We will make small study group specifically for
software, specific level
It's today's contents. Firstly, I'd like to talk about Hokkaido. I explain you about background of this presentation. Secondly, I'd like to tell you how middle and small company use FOSS4G. Thirdly, I'd like to talk about our first local area event FOSS4G Hokkaido. Why we had local area event. How we made.
We have underpopulated area and have aging population and lower birthrate. Geography information is needed in various fields. There are many companies receives order from public works projects But public works projects decrease now We have to make new field's job.
Our main business is still to make paper map. Our main customer is public office, governmental department and local government. Our company is not well-known by general public, but well-known in the industry.
We are famous about to start digital process earlier than other competitors. Now we have hole japan's vector database, we provide various base map from one database. We can change scale, style, pick up specific sort After put main contents, adjust design, send data to printing process. Almost process are automatically.
We have original elevation data too. From elevation data and our base map data, we can make birds-eye map. This kind birds-eye map are highly-praised.
I think now you are wondering, which part process we use FOSS4G?? Sorry we don't use FOSS4G those processes, because we made this process before we meet FOSS4G. Back and forth process we use FOSS4G. In forth process example,
It's typical example 、 simple example to homepage. In public office, they need to release information to public. After make paper map, We change paper map information to homepage using openlayers.
Of course, we put some more information. Search function is related database. This example timetable of bus stop and station.
By FOSS4G, we can widen a kind of the work easy. We change contents our job step by step. gradually.
Let's get back to OSGeo.JP activity. We can exchange information to main community, asia community easy. They have meeting, study group.
We try to make local community for event. We had discus(in drinking party we talk about) which part is best for first local event? 2 site proposed 、 Nagoya & Hokkaido.
First thing we did is to contact to other groups. Digital Hokkaido, group of researchers & companies, their establishment purpose is to share data. This year's one of their work is make japanese original symbol set for QGIS. Second group is RS/GIS study group of Hokkaido research organization. They have QGIS lecture for their staff. Last, QGIS study group at Hokkaido Univ. most members are staff of construction consultation or Univ. They gave us a positive response.
Because we hope many quest from other part japan come to FOSS4G Hokkaido
We had two place proposed for . 2 reason, transportation and preparations are easy. We do not have to worry any infrastructure like electric, network, sound installation.
We would like to know what needs for FOSS4G guest have.
One is introduction of FOSS4G & OSGeo.JP One is QGIS customization especially printing function. Because public office still depend on paper map. continuous printing
Presenter and participants are very close, Friendly atmosphere
Information exchange becomes easy between participants.
This number of participants is almost same to OSAKA. We think our event is success. Most participants are from public office extre-departmental organization, researchers, construction consultation. We were surprised some participants are hospital works. They use QGIS for their marketing fields.
